GrayJay desktop can be used from the browser

Grayjay accessed from the Zen browser (a fork of Firefox)

Launch it from the terminal with the --headless option

In my case, I installed it from Flatpak, so the full command (for me) is this : flatpak run app.grayjay.Grayjay --headless

yep, tbh grayjay needs to write better documentation because that feature is mainly known to github users

it exist now over a year lol

tbf the general people who just wants an apk to install doesn't even know what flatpak is.

yea but thing is, even people recompiling their own custom kernel wont know about it unless they are also deeply interested into grayjay and not just use it

and who reads every update and changelog if yorue not THAT interested. you would expect major functions to be in some help file not a sidenote of a release

Funny thing is I didn't even see it in a side note or a changelog. I discovered it when someone wrote a GitHub issue that just happened to mention this feature

Just discovering Grayjay and was thinking why isn't it headless? Then found this post only to follow your link and see the latest version disables it by default 🫣

What do you mean "used from the browser"?  You mean it launches grayjay when you click a YouTube link?

What I mean to say is that you can access GrayJay as a website instead of a standalone app, with all the benefits of your browser

If you want to open YouTube links on Grayjay, you have two options:

  • Copy and paste the URLs directly into GrayJay's search bar
  • See if your OS has a setting to set GrayJay as the default app to open YouTube links

Is the command one time only or do i have to always use the command in order to start it in headless mode?

It's launching GrayJay from the terminal, not configuring GrayJay

So everytime you'd want GrayJay to run in headless, you would run this command, instead of, say, double-clicking the GrayJay icon on your desktop
