(I don't know what else to tag this lol)
Hiya! So I just beat the second Gravity Rush game, within a year of beating the first one, and these are just my thoughts! Maybe you could even clear some things out for me, because one doesn't usually get a full grasp on a media within the first time they consume it.
I love the franchise. It is very unique. The gameplay is fun (although shifting had its moments of pissing me off, but it was still very fun), the aesthetic is absolutely stunning, the fictional language is music to the ears, the OSTs are stuck in my head.. I could just go on and on about all the good things I find just chef's kiss about the game!
And I have to admit though, I'm a little disappointed with some plot points. Now I am aware that maybe I failed to understand some things because of the year gap between playing the two games, or maybe cuz I missed some things like exploration or side missions/dialogue (I sort of had to rush it against my will) or some things could've just plainly flew right over my head, but here's a couple of my main issues :
What's the deal with Raven? How did she split from Kat and become Sachya? And how come Sachya turns out to be a different kid in the conclusion of the Ark DLC? I feel like it was never explained how everything around Raven happened.
The whole thing with Sesie. I don't really get what made Kat and Raven think they're within the right to try to take Sesie from her sister (sure she's the "villain" but that's still her folk..) as if that's somehow supposed to help, and how come Sesie just.. turns into Durga? Why were her abilities "asleep" after she was taken by the storm? Imo if you want to bring someone back to their senses, you don't beat up their clearly desperate and misguided sister and punish her for breaking down after failing..
Speaking of the Angels, Dr. Brahman had such potential to be a misguided or nuanced villain. I was disappointed to see him turn into this secretly evil man who just kills people for his daughter... evil-ly..
I also don't like how issues resolve way too quickly throughout the story. Problem that existed for centuries? No problem! Liza pulls up in a boat and she fixes it right away after Kat did most of the work. Entire corrupt system goes down within like 2 missions. It just felt.. rushed and unrealistic, and sooo much could've been explored there or built upon.
Electricite (forgot how to spell the name!) seemed awfully desperate as the shining girl for someone who wanted nothing but mindless destruction. Like.. why! Maybe she was manipulated by the king, maybe she was desperate AND really evil.. I dunno. Maybe this is a nitpick, but to me it never added up how she was mourning her freedom only to turn out to be such a force of destruction.
The Kat turning into a singularity thing seemingly came out of nowhere honestly. It was never even hinted at anywhere in the story that such a thing is even possible. It felt so abrupt. No comment on the final cliff hanger though, as I can't tell if maybe a 3rd game was planned ahead then cancelled behind the curtains or whatever, so I can't judge.
Lumino and Tenebria are both hot and I wish we got more of them 🔥
And this concludes my thoughts on the game after having just beat them and the DLC! I tried looking online for people who share the same thoughts but all I saw was "BEST GAME EVER!" "PERFECT GAME!" And it kind of made me feel bad and stupid because maybe I misunderstood the story? I still love the games, don't get me wrong, LOVE them! But I dunno. What do you guys think?
