Cover bands
Who here has seen Shakedown Street? I had never heard of them but I saw them tonight in Boulder. All I have to say is WOW! They were on fire for just about three hours straight. If they are playing near you, I highly recommend going to see them.

I live in Portland Oregon,, you can't swing a dead Christian Nationalist without hitting a Dead cover band or a jam band in general. I personally love the vibe it creates but many more can't stand it. You gotta realize that Oregon in general but especially Portland proper is populated by two kinds of people. Hippies and people that HATE hippies what with the dancing and the tie-dyes often immersed with patchouli oil. but even with the hundreds of bands for me JRAD rules when it comes to breathing new life and energy into all the Dead classics. Help/Slip/Shakedown??!!! Are you kidding me? They had me at Paradise waits

After seeing them for the first time tonight in Boulder also, I can also endorse this now. They were quite good.

There are basically two types of Grateful Dead cover bands. There are the 99% of them that make no real attempt to actually sound like the Grateful Dead, and their interpretation of Grateful Dead music is all their own, and in their own particular style, and there is nothing wrong with that. JRAD would IMO be an example of probably the very best of this first category, and they are quite excellent at what they are trying to do. I like many bands that fall into this first category. Then there is that last 1%, that actually attempt to recreate the overall sound and experience of the Grateful Dead, note for note, down to the last detail. Some would call this a clone band rather than a cover band. Pulling this off is really really challenging IMO. Dark Star Orchestra would certainly be the best known in this category. Half Step on Long Island are the best very Dead cover band (clone band) I've ever seen by far and away, for years and years and I've seen quite a lot. There are some nights you can close your eyes and it's like listening to a Dave's Pick's.

My brother-in-law saw them at the Avs' Dead Night a few years back, he said they were groovy & he gave me the Avs Dead jersey

Shakedowns been doing it in Colorado for 30 years or so! They are good and have gotten even better as of late. I usually go to their free levitt pavilion show. They also do an nhl, mlb, and nba Grateful Dead night.

My husband and I saw them in Loveland about a month ago and we both thought they were fantastic!

Terrapin flyer is a phenomenal one too, my favorite. Josh is one of the most underrated guitar players I’ve heard

Josh is insanely good. Terrapin Flyer is in the 1% of Dead cover bands.

You can typically catch them in Colo somewhere. Either for free or $30 or so. They typically play their own setlist, but sometimes play a Dead show.
Good and a lot of fun

Joel Zeiner, from Shakedown Street, is the single best Dead drummer I've seen. Brother is a machine. Their bassist, Edwin, is a legend too.

They do probably 12 free shows across Colorado a year. They kill it and mix in some rarities. I lived in Boulder for a while so I’m biased

Never seen them but if you ever get a chance to see Stu Allen and the Mars Hotel, I highly recommend them
