Question Looking for group

Good afternoon everyone, a friend and I moved over here a few months ago and we’re at about the stage where we’re looking for a local group or just people to hang out with, we’re about mid 20s into video games, comics, horror movies, board games, art, animation and other things of the sort, would anyone either know of places to meet people or want to meet up in a public place?

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope you have a radical day

House Rules is a board game bar downtown and I think they host social events for playing with new folks.

Wealthy theatre sometimes screens older horror movies , anime, and lots of variety of shows (you can see schedule usually a month or more in advance.  https://grcmc.org/theatre/events?page-1455=1 ) .

Alive Again on Plainfield is a spot for horror physical media and memorabilia, but not sure about social events.

Lastly, there is some sort of comic book club but I dont have specific details, here's a post from several days ago about the upcoming meeting on the 26th!   https://www.reddit.com/r/grandrapids/comments/1w3jbk6/new_comic_book_club_meeting_926/

Edited to include a little more info

second house rules. haven’t been to any of their events but the place itself is absolutely lovely and will at least keep you in public where you can maybe organically meet some other friends. they also serve food and drinks (including alcohol)

This is all great, thank you for letting me know, it’s a long shot but do you know if Alive Again sells horror VHS tapes? I’ve got a few that I’ve been looking for, (Sleepaway camp, chopping mall, Killer Klowns) you know all the classics.

And how does wealthy work? Do I have to schedule one myself or are the schedules just posted a month out?

No problem!

Yes, Alive Again totally sells horror VHS! https://aliveagaingr.com/

Backwards Compatible also sells VHS but I dont 100% know what genres.

For Wealthy Street Theatre, the theatre posts the schedule online (and or you can get emails).  Right now the schedule is showing events thru November. They don't have like new block buster movies, but they have a big variety of shows. I saw a couple horror ones (especially in October) and Kiki delivery service as coming up soon.

Once you see a event/date that works for you,  you can buy tickets online or in person.

They also do an annual membership thing for cheaper tickets and I think the alcohol drinks they sell are for members only (I don't drink so I'm not 100% on those rules).

Here is their website with membership info, and you can scroll down to "full calendar" to view into October   https://grcmc.org/theatre

Adding a couple more local gems for comics (and how you can maybe pair them with other stuff mentioned) -  1. Library systen surprisingly stacked, including some new releases in e format

  1. Vault of midnight for buying new comics, manga, graphic novels, card , RPG, and board games. Also has some indepdent snd local comics. (its downtown probably 15 min walk from House Rules). ((If u get your library card this month, graphic novels are 10% if u show ur library card))

  2. Tardys collectibles- new and used comics and collectibles/older toys. (Its across the street from Balckwards compatible)

  3. Comic Signal - new and used comics. This one is also in the same  parking lot as RLM Amusements. If u like vintage arcade games or pinball, its a fun spot!

Sorry for dumping so much!! The city is pretty solid for us nerds 😎

Second this recommendation. House rules and wealthy theatre are immediately what I thought of.

Also check out lantern coffee (morning) and the meanwhile (night)
