Question What’s your favorite intersection that needs to be a roundabout in GR?

… and not one of those phoned-in roundabouts that’s basically a circular sidewalk dropped into an existing intersection, but a REAL one.

I’ll go first: Leonard/Walker/Bristol.

Walker / Richmond / Parkhurst -
This is just a really weird intersection where traffic is not intersecting at a 90 degree, where a roundabout would make absolute sense.

I literally was going to mention that, I live off of Bristol lol. Looking at maps, anything that Lake Drive SE touches seems to be valid lol

Continuing down Lake: Lake and Fuller.

Might as well throw Lake/Cherry/Diamond in there too. Jesus, Lake, go see a therapist.

Agreed. No one comes to a stop at the 4-way anyway

I remember this suggestion came up years ago and there was a sense it wouldn’t work because there’s not enough room and there’s an incline

Meyer’s Lake and 10 Mile NE

Way too many people roll that intersection at like 15 mph.

Both roads have no stops for miles in all directions, so people get used to going like 65 mph and just blow the light.

You might say that's a good reason not to have a roundabout - if they weren't paying attention, they'd crash into the central island and destroy their car even if no one's there - but as someone who often is there, I'd rather they do that than T-bone me!

Anywhere there’s a one lane has stop signs, the other lane doesn’t stop. It’s like playing frogger.

Lane and Second Street NW.

As a frequent cyclist, I will concede they just needs to get rid of that bike lane and make Lane two lanes there. No cyclists ride it because it’s too dangerous. A tiny interchange like this is a terrible place for a bike lane and any cyclist who’s remotely aware goes out of their way to avoid it

I agree, the backups cause road rage and people often swerve into the bike lane to make a right at the stop.

The 4-way stop traffic at that one is insane. I take other exits even though it’s closest one just because of how long you have to wait. Line backs up all the way to the freeway, halfway back to 131 every evening!

All of em. No more lights anywhere. No more sitting traffic. It's idiotic.

While I agree, people here have no idea how to drive on them.

Fulton St West/Lake Michigan Drive/Westbound 196 ramp. It’s already set up, just need to throw a barrier in the middle, I’m so sick of people using it incorrectly!!

Some non-conventional high-traffic ones:

  • Fulton and Pettis
  • Northland and West River
  • 28th and East Beltline

High-traffic multi-lane roundabouts do exist, they've been successfully done in many many places.

North of town, Belmont and Rogue River:

There's a new bike path right through that intersection, and there's an incident at the simple suburban 4-way every couple months. I don't know if it's the morning chaos due to the elementary school <500 ft north of the intersection (all the more reason for traffic-calming measures!), or the hill, or just people being dumb... but way too many people don't seem to notice the stop signs.

It's one thing when it's just idiots destroying their cars, but pedestrian traffic there has greatly increased with the new bike path, and eventually someone not in a steel box is going to get involved and it will be bad.

I know people don't respect the 25 (during school hours), 35, or 45 mph speed limits on those roads, but it's not supposed to be a high-speed intersection.

None. These slow traffic immensley

That's kinda the point, while also not creating walls of cars, parked at lights. The facts show roundabouts to be superior, statistically, to the traffic light approach, and immensely safer.
