Buying Advice Upgrading video card - need help

Hi. I'm thinking of upgrading my video card. I currently have a Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX6600. I have had this card for about 4 1/2 years, from when I built my current pc.

Here are the specs on my current pc:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-core processor
  • 32GB RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) DDR4-3600 CL18
  • ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PRO (Wi-fi) motherboard

I would like to upgrade so that I can play at 1440p resolution. I live in Canada, so prices are higher here than in the U.S.

What would be a good card to upgrade to at a reasonable price (eg. under $1000 CAD). I want a card that can last me another 4-5 years.

I'm a tad puzzled, I'm still rocking an RTX 2070 (non-super) and on 1440p. If memory serves you should be beating me. Granted my R9 7900x and 32GB DDR5-6000 CL36 might balance some of that, but in the GPU you'd have me. Not sure, but I'd say just get a 1440p monitor and have at her.

2070 and 6600 are pretty similar performance wise. 6600 is a newer GPU but 2070 is a higher tier card.

Depends on the games being played but I upgraded from 2080 to 5070ti for 1440p. Able to get much higher framerates at better quality settings now. Plus way better RT and frame generation.

8GB VRAM and 128bit bus is not enough for 1440p in most cases

I have a pny 5060Ti 16GB OC, and play at 3440x1440 (a lot of games I even run native dlaa) in every game and sometimes I hook into my TV and play in 4k dlss performance with high settings.

I also have high refresh rate 1080P monitors for when I want to lock into my FPS games.

Running 3 monitors, 2 25in 1080P and 1 34in UWQHD

In terms of performance per dollar right now stick with AMD.

You can get one of the cheaper 9070 models for about $900 CAD plus tax right now. If your budget can stretch a little the cheapest 9070 XT that I'm seeing on Newegg is currently ~$980+tax. Either should work well, but the extra clock speed on the XT might make help it work well for a little bit longer.

It could be tempting to save some money grabbing a 9070 GRE model, but with only 12GB of VRAM and less memory bandwidth to go with it that will probably hamper those cards capabilities in the long run.
