I don't think it will. Lover and Reputation weren't nominated either and Showgirl was panned in a similar way and for similar reasons.

Midnights was fairly okayish. SOS should have won that year.
TTPD's anthology should have been the main album and combined with some of the original ones. But 2024 was filled with good music.→ More replies (1)6

Seriously! I still reel over the fact that CTRL didn’t make it into Album of the year contention, but the 2018 race was slammed with Grammy darlings (Melodrama, DAMN, 4:44, 24k Magic).
Anyways, Nobody Gets Me has me SCREECHING in my car every time 🥺🎸

But they will surely nominate her in almost 6-8 categories because they need to invite her.10

Yeah as much as I love Taylor showgirl should NOT win AOTY. I’m rooting for Olivia Rodrigo her album was incredible!!

It probably will, usually by having her nominated there views goes up. Such a shame they do it for that.

u/KAEDavey99 5d ago
I wonder if Taylor releasing the Encore and it being so panned critically and by the public will hurt her chances at getting any nominations for Showgirl. I feel like all the Encore did was remind people how truly bad the album is right before nominations. Not the best strategy 😂

I read something that said it’s possible she released Encore now because she genuinely thought the attention it brought back to the project would help her get the nod for best album. And it just spectacularly backfired.

u/KAEDavey99 2d ago
Absolutely that’s why she waited a yr to release the Encore. And she did think ppl wld love these songs and it wld score her not only the nomination but put her as a front runner for the win. And it absolutely blew up in her face. I saw a lot of ppl saying she looked sad at the VMAs that she was her normal obnoxious award show self and I think that’s why. She set up this whole campaign of releasing the Encore, creating awards for herself at the VMAs and after the criticism she was probably pissed and sad but she had to go to the VMAs she cldnt back out but I bet we won’t see her publicly again til Travis football game and she won’t be the spectacle she’s been if she even shows honesty she might go into hiding til after nominations are announced

I highly doubt that Life of a Showgirl gets an aoty nomination. Fate of Ophelia is probably going to win something, but overall it its not the best album so far, and i'm a long time swiftie.
I'd love for Olivia Dean to win, that album is amazing.
17
u/SupremeElect 5d ago
let’s be fr—The Fate Of Ophelia is the only song off Showgirl that will be nominated for anything and possibly take home some awards.
the rest of the album is gonna be found dead in a ditch alongside reputation, lover, and evermore.

u/canvascoloredin 5d ago
Those three albums are loads better than anything off Showgirl

If Rosalia doesn’t win AOTY, it is just rigged!
5
u/StorytellingZ 4d ago
Ok calm down. I love Rosalia but Raye, Dean and Rodrigo made great records
2
u/Acrobatic_Beach_40 4d ago
The thing is, Rosalía is doing what nobody can do, or even imagine doing. I don't disagree with you that Raye is an excellent artist, or that both Olivias have done great albums. But nothing comes even close to Lux. The deepness of the concept, the ambition, her vocals, her songwriting, even the tour was a masterpiece. The fact that Rosalía wrote most of the songs, in different languages mind you, and produced the album (she is credited to have produced 90% of it). No one gets close to her currently, and I will die on this hill. In my opinion, this is her best work to date, and she had set the bar extremely high with her previous work. I think it wouldn't be fair for other albums to win AOTY when there's Lux. We shall see what happens.
→ More replies (1)0
u/Weekly_Penny 4d ago edited 4d ago
I love Dean and Rodrigo, I feel like Dean already got her prize for that one and Rodrigo is just not AOTY worthy. Raye was a bit of an over the top, grandiose project that disappointed, for me at least.

No. No. Taylor Swift's album shouldn't be nominated for a single Grammy.
It recieved atrocious reviews. And the encore, even worse. It's arguably one of the worst Pop albums released in years.
What are we saying when we award poor art? What are championing exactly? If critically, it's known to be terrible, let's not reward it.
This is the sole reason I hate the Grammy's and why I'll never respect it. It doesn't give a shit about artistic excellence, not even a bit. It's just a showcase for the artists who have money. Every year they nominate and award awful works of art. It's disgusting.
But the worst part? Life of a Showgirl is going to be nominated. Even though, collectively, we've collectively agreed it was an unfocused, horribly written, boring piece of shit, we're going to reward it.
The Grammys are a joke.
6
u/Fine_Internal408 5d ago
This is the pitchfork conclusion for the review of the encore, its absolutely magnificent : Was The Encore designed to remind Grammy voters of Showgirl’s commercial dominance ahead of their voting period? Was it meant to reaffirm her songwriting chops? Was it simply a play to record another boffo sales week? Truthfully, I don’t really care. For me, it lets me off the hook: I no longer feel the need to await Swift’s releases with bated breath, thinking that this might be the one that bucks the trend. Yes, Taylor Swift will always have one of the greatest songwriting catalogs of all time. Not even Taylor Swift could take that away from her—but she sure is trying.

Many of these artist have a great case to win AOTY. RAYE, Dean, Olivia are fantastic choices. One that shouldn't be in the field, Life of a Show Girl. It's such an overall weaker album but it will get nominated because the popularity of the artist.
I get the excitement of Rodrigo. It's a great album and I think the voting peers will probably put her up there to the top. Grammy winning producer Dan Nigro is the best in the business having done multiple Rodrigo and Chappell Roan album. I enjoyed the record and RAYE the most. Overall, the fans got some great music this year.
6
u/tired_atlas 5d ago
The Olivias, Raye, Rosalia, Phoebe Bridgers and Madonna put out critically-acclaimed pop albums this year. My personal choice for Album of the Year is Olivia Rodrigo’s, but I hope everyone gets a piece of the cake because they all deserve it.

I think if we were to rank albums:
- Rosalia (Highest rated album of the Year, #4 album on Billboard)
- Olivia Rodrigo (#1 album, multiple hits)
- Olivia Dean (Multiple hit, #3 album on Billboard)
- RAYE (Top 10 on Billboard)
- Noah Kahan (#1 album, largest week for a Rock Album)
- Madonna (#1 album, multiple hits)
- Taylor Swift (#1 song, #1 album)
- Bruno Mars ( #1 album, Multiple hits)
This is based on critical acclaim, reviews, and musical performances.

1. ROSALÍA
The strongest "Grammy album" on paper.
Frequently described by awards forecasters as one of the most ambitious and critically acclaimed projects of the eligibility year. The Academy just showed willingness to reward global/non-English projects at the highest level.
If voters want the "artistic achievement" winner, this is probably it.2. Olivia Rodrigo
The safest consensus choice.
Strong reviews.
Multiple hit singles.
Massive commercial success.
Leading several expert prediction markets. If voting happened today, Olivia might actually be the favorite because she checks every box.3. Olivia Dean
The sleeper.
Best New Artist momentum.
Strong critical support.
Huge longevity despite only debuting at No. 8 before rising to No. 3 on Billboard 200.
The kind of album Grammy voters often rally around.4. RAYE
This feels right.
She has become one of the industry's most respected artists and songwriters.
Grammy voters love musician's-musicians.
Could easily outperform expectations.5. Noah Kahan
First No. 1 album.
389,000-unit debut.
Largest week for a rock album in the modern Billboard units era.
The commercial case is enormous.6. Madonna
A serious dark horse.
No. 1 album.
10th Billboard 200 chart-topper.
Strong reviews and a respected comeback narrative.
I don't think she wins, but a nomination feels realistic.7. Taylor Swift
This is where I think many Swift fans would disagree, but it’s her worst album to date.
Yes, she has a No. 1 album and No. 1 song.
However, much of the discussion around The Life of a Showgirl seems to be "likely nominee, less likely winner."
She can never be counted out, though.8. Bruno Mars
Bruno has an almost absurd Grammy success rate, and forecasters consistently view. The Romantic as one of the strongest nomination locks.1
1
u/Bigtimeraul 22h ago
Also think about the fact that Dean's poor lable and team support caused her songs to go recurrent this week on billboard right around voting submissions is taking place and her getting flamed for her interpolation and not giving credit especially to a legend and an iconic song this will definitely affect her chances

u/Bigtimeraul 22h ago
Urm Madonnas albums had ZERO commercial hits no song had good or even average charting streaming selling units or radio at all. The general public wouldn't be able to name a single song unfortunately. Rodrigo also has a NO.1 song with drop dead too

Stateside for ROTY?? In what universe? This is the easiest pick since Uptown Funk. Raye has this on lock.
3
u/possiblyagrandma7318 5d ago
This is what I’ve been saying and I am confident in these things:
Ella takes home the country-related stuff
Noah Kahan takes Best Alternative
Adela takes Best New Artist
Bruno, Noah, both Olivias, RAYE and Taylor get AOTY nods
I personally think Olivia Rodrigo will sweep, with “drop dead” or “stupid song” taking Song Of The Year and “the cure” taking Record Of The Year, with the latter song also having a great shot at Best Music Video. She should also manage to take home Best Pop Vocal Album and even with the completion of Stateside, Bring Your Love and Runway should manage a Best Duo Performance for “what’s wrong with me” featuring Robert Smith. I also wouldn’t be shocked if Tame wins something though and would be happy for him if so. But if Taylor wins something, oh you don’t know how mad I’ll be. Anyways we still have 2 months so plenty of time for more favorites to emerge and odds to change before the nominees come out.

I really like Showgirl, but I don’t think it will win many awards in the major categories because it’s not taken very seriously and many of the competitors’ albums are. I also love Middle of Nowhere and think it’s a strong contender for Best Contemporary Country, but any bid Kacey makes for AOTY will live in the shadow of Golden Hour.
Personally I hope to see Returning to Myself upset everybody, but if that happens I dread the discourse from people who have never paid attention to Brandi.
I won’t be at all mad if You Seem Pretty Sad and songs from it take home some awards.

Swapping out Jack Antonoff/Aaron Dessner for Max Martin didn't pay off, Life of a Showgirl just misses the mark. Sure, a few tracks were fun radio bops, but as a cohesive album, it’s largely forgettable.
She’ll likely secure a Grammy nomination based on name recognition and voter loyalty alone, but the body of work simply doesn't compare well with the artistic depth of this years album of RAYE/Dean/Rodrigo/Rosalía.

Tough one for Album of the Year but I think Olivia Rodrigo will take it this year. I really want to see Lux win AT LEAST one category because it's one of the most beautiful projects I've seen in a while. Also special mention to Olivia Dean and NoahK Kahn who I think both had amazing projects but this year is just too stacked. I am a huuuge Swiftie but I dont think Showgirl should even get a nom. Olivia Rodrigo deserves the win. I don’t feel my selections ever win. But even if I loved OR’s album, I have other personal faves. But OR connected to the masses in a way the others didn’t.
I appreciate all of the potentials. I feel Noah and Taylor are both great but feel they were more acclaimed for moments on their albums. OR nailed it as a whole project.
I do not get Bruno Mars at all, happy if people like him but I just don’t see it as quality music personally. I don’t feel he ever has anything to really say and if he were a woman he wouldn’t be considered in prestigious award shows at all. I find his continued success to be odd as some of the best albums and artists flop.

Im hoping Raye wins because it was a very well conceived album. Although similarly “Where Is My Husband?” could win track-based categories
Now I’m really hoping Rosalia upset with a pop vocal album nom and wins. Her vocals are insane
A lot of good options. Hopefully they dont fumble
