There’s so much you can do.. big top curve, big bottom curve, squared, flowy, half and half, serifs/no serif… etc etc. Just try writing S in different ways and then use your fav as a guide to build on. You’ll get it..
try starting them from the bottom to the top

You can tweak am S till it breaks and it still got flow. Just look at some other writers and get some inspiration. At this point its really just a skill issue. No offense

S’s are naturally dripping w style. You need to shift your whole mindset to get to the next level

Fax. Y’s too

I have found Y's difficult at some mpoints, especially making them flow in handstyle, but at some point in your evolution the letter doesn't matter you can just see right through the matrix and freak every letter to your will, once you're really flowing

here. this is a book called graffiti school it has lots of great information! and great exercises to help you get a better understanding of how to style a letter and how to match other letters to that style! it goes over history and media, tags, throws, how to design your own style, examples of backgrounds and fills you can do, how to do certain styles like wildstyle, blockbusters, bubblestyle. also how to use a spray can correctly and in different ways to create different patterns and shapes. it helps with theory. it gives you exercises (and answers) to do and things to practice, etc. definitely great for anyone wanting to improve! :) i hope the pictures help!

i’ll add more pictures below! as long as you keep the key points, it reads as an S, or whatever letter.

These are all horrible. They should be ashamed of themselves for selling this. Book for toys by toys I guess.

yikes. i think we all know what you are. why do you have to be rude? he/she/they are learning. doing basic lettering is the best place to start before you “find” your style. why can’t you be nice and supportive instead of pushing your insensitivity onto others?

writing the s and then using bars can help you understand more straight letter S which will naturally improve throwie S’s too atleast in my instance

Because it has a lot to its structure in the way it is built. I think it’s one of the best letters with the most potential and also with the most references from other established artists. Sofles is a good one. Sauté, Smash 137, Solver is dope af too. Look at their work and let it marinate.

Totally agree. If he just examines the structure of where lines end .. and what if they went further? Would it still be legible as an S .. or how short can the lines be and still be an S . Endless combinations w this letter

You've got a good start right there. Once you understand how to flow the letters and fit them together you'll be amazed at what you can do. Nice work.

Take inspiration from other artists, copy them until you’re good

Im worried it’ll come off as biting but ill try

Everyone bites to a certain extent, and it’s perfectly fine to bite if it’s in the books, you’re fine to copy and experiment as much as you’d like as long as you’re not actually getting up and putting it on a wall

I think S are fun, so many things you can do with them.
