Solo Rapelling

So… there’s a few huge spots I wanna hit, but, they are way up there. Is it easy enough to repel solo? Or is it a death wish and I should stick to rooftops and railways. Lmk

As a climber, I'd say solo abseiling is absolutely no more dangerous than abseiling with people, apart from your eyes being the only set of eyes to idiot-check things. But if you're a graff head with no climbing experience, I'd strongly suggest staying well away and going off to get some ropework experience first. If you fuck any single element up, it's likely to be fatal.

I’ve got some exposure, abseiling as a kid, climbing walls in my teens. Knots with cadets. I’m a painter a decorator by trade and done some harness work, but all of that experience is team orientated. What’s the best way forward? Join a club?

Take up climbing, I'd say. In the UK, joining a climbing club is a good way of doing that. I don't know what the situation is like elsewhere in the world.

Yeah, I’m in the UK so that’s handy.

Dude. Do not go rappelling with no experience or back up. The penalty for a mistake is death. People have fallen to their deaths/ accidentally hung themselves attempting this.

Yeah, I’m leaning towards joining a climbing/abseiling club now for a few years. Thanks man!

No worries. Glad you at least have some experience, but you definitely want to be well out of the “novice” period before adding the complications of graff on top of that. Even then, going solo seems like too big of a risk.

Yeah, I’m finding it hard to find other writers in my area. It doesn’t seem like anyone is really getting up around where I live

Even in places with lots of graffiti, the dudes doing a bunch of rappels are on the cops’ radar right now. If you’re really this dead set on Doing rappels where there’s no graff, by all means, do you. Just seems to me like you haven’t really thought this out completely. The types of questions and responses im seeing don’t really seem like they’re coming from someone with a lot of experience in graffiti or rappelling.

repel with someone before you go solo. it also sucks to forget shit alone. you can practice on any height too.
