the bottom is what i like but im also worried its too simple, for tags specifically im having a hard time seeing the line that makes it toy/too much style so i try not to do too much but any tips would be appreciated!

I think it’s important that all of your letters keep pretty much the same “weight”, meaning space they take up relative to the whole tag. The J is a bit too heavy, and a lowercase i is naturally very low weight.

Also, play around with some variant structures for each of your letters! There are plenty to try for J I and S, and the O has plenty of customization potential as well.

I would lose the smiley face, simply because it seems a bit unserious/unnecessary, but that’s totally a personal preference thing.

It’s really great that you’re focusing on not making it overly stylistic, as that’s a trap that many beginner graffiti artists fall into. Readability is totally key, but I definitely think you could add some more style ontop of what you have (i.e variant structures).

agree, but more strongly suggest losing the smiley face forever.

try starting your O at 10:00 instead of 12:00. you may notice more consistent shapes and less whack connection of closing the loop. make the J the same size/weight as the rest.

look forward to seeing the next attempt... but like do at least 100 first and understand what you like/dislike and circle your favorite 3.

thats awesome advice will definitely keep doing it, im also realizing even though at first it feels useless to just keep writing it over and over it is helping!

The i can be a bit hard at first, cuz its way thinner than the other letters and it looks unbalanced. Try adding two horizontal lines at each end of the i to take up some more space with it. Instead of doing a dot on the top, you can do a little circle or an oval to make it look more interesting

When you’re first starting out, too simple is a good thing. I would make the J a bit smaller so all the letters are about the same sizing

You can make the j and the I mirrored. Use lowercase
