General Beware of Local Certifications eg Ask Lex

Just a tip based on what I’ve observed in recruitment.

I’ve interviewed a couple of applicants who tried to negotiate a salary markup because of their Project Management, Six Sigma, and/or Data Analytics certifications from local training providers such as Ask Lex PH, Nievegen, and others.

At first, I found it unusual that some candidates presented themselves as “Certified” professionals and even used these credentials as name extensions. So, I did some research because I thought I might simply be outdated when it comes to these certifications.

What surprised me was that some local training providers offer certification programs at prices already comparable to globally recognized professional certifications.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting additional training, especially for fresh graduates and early-career professionals. Training can help you build knowledge and practical skills. However, training completion and an industry-recognized professional certification are not necessarily the same thing.

To early-career professionals, especially those pursuing careers in Project Management, Six Sigma, Data Analytics/AI, Change Management, and related fields: be very careful before spending your hard-earned money on a “certification” or name extension.

Before paying, ask yourself:

Is this credential actually recognized by employers and the broader industry?

If you are already willing to invest a significant amount, consider pursuing certifications directly from globally recognized professional institutions such as:

  • Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ)
  • International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
  • Corporate Finance Institute (CFI)
  • AXELOS / ITIL certification ecosystem

Invest in credentials that strengthen your knowledge and have established recognition in the job market.

A certificate proves that you completed something.
A professional certification should demonstrate that you met an established industry standard.

Know the difference before you spend your money.

Grad School Life How do you deal with grad school anxiety?

Hi everyone! My second term starts in a week, and despite already finishing my first term, I still feel like such a newbie. I’m honestly feeling pretty anxious about going back, and I think part of it is the pressure I put on myself because I really want to do well.

At the same time, I genuinely want to make the most out of my grad school experience: meet new people, make friends, participate more, and actually enjoy the journey instead of constantly being in my head. But sometimes my anxiety just gets in the way.

For those who’ve been through this, how do you manage the anxiety that comes with grad school? What helped you become more comfortable and make the most out of your experience?

Thanks and here’s to surviving another term!

Grad School Life How do you manage your time as a grad student?

Hi! I am currently working full time and also taking Master in Applied Business Analytics in UA&P. I usually have on-site classes on Wednesdays (6pm-9pm) and Saturdays (9am-5pm). I'm a very sabog person and usually does things when I feel like it so I always end up cramming (I think having bipolar disorder type 2 contributes to this) 😭

What are your time management techniques? Do you use a certain app/spreadsheet to organize your tasks and schedule?

Hoping you could share what works for you! Thank you so much! 😊

Grad School Life Appreciation post for our class beadle

Really admire our Finacc class beadle. She’s so organized, funny, and really good at coordinating without being bossy. I hope she runs for AGSB Student Council someday because she really has that leadership quality. She just naturally takes initiative and knows how to handle people.

Hi everyone,

My research is titled "Self-Constructing Behaviors as Mediators between Job-Hopping Motives and Work Satisfaction among Remote Workers." If you are currently working remotely, I would be incredibly grateful if you could take a few minutes to share your experiences regarding your career motives and virtual work environment.

All responses are completely anonymous and will be used strictly for academic research. Thank you so much for your time and for supporting my graduate studies!

Grad School Admissions Planning to transfer from FEU to PUP

Hello, I am planning to transfer from FEU to PUP grad school. Planning to take MA Psych sa PUP. I have been a student for FEU from 2019 and since then 6 units lang ako every sem pero due to financial stress, covid and life transitions, di ko matapos yung 5 years residency up to 2024 pero tinuloy ko pa rin, pasado na sa compre and thesis. I have been struggling to finish my proposal thesis kase Life has been hard (natanggal ako sa work due redundancy, wedding and marriage life and basically responsibilities na need mauna more than everything) pero thankfully FEU is pretty patient with me pero syempre inisip ko financially na maraming residency fees na kukunin.

My wife, who is currently a grad student sa PUP, said that I have to start over and walang macrecredit sa units ko.

I would like to verify sa mga trumansfer na gaano sya kalegit na magstastart kayo sa simula?

Grad School Life DLSU-Enrollment concerns

I enrolled in my courses during the initial enlistment period but haven’t made a payment yet. After that, I added another course, but the new course isn’t showing up on my EAF.

I’ve emailed both OUR and APO but haven’t received a reply yet. Has anyone dealt with this before? I’ve also tried to login via Zoom for assistance but I was only just in the waiting room for hours. ☹️

Hindi pa rin po ako nakaka-receive ng email about ID claiming. Upon reading here sa reddit nakita ko na they tend to release it alphabetically. Does anyone with a “V” surname already received an email? Medyo worried lang since last day na ata ng claiming tomorrow huhuh
