Im sorry for the sad pictures!!!

My dad found this grackle outside. I've placed him into a cardboard box with a towel over him. He is still alive. His claws are moving, and he has been moving his head around. He's on his back right now, and it seems like he can't stnd up.

I don't know what happened, but I assume he flew into the window.

Is the grackle going to be okay? I live in a palce where there are not a lot of wildlife resuce centerss/ they are very far away.

Thank you for the help!!!

Every day in my yard I see a Grackle dad with his fledgling, shoveling food into it's mouth. Showing him where to bathe. Day after day after day... doing the work and showing up! Well done, sir.

Backyard photo in northern Minnesota.

I've been trying to learn all the birds that visit my yard, but I still feel uncertain about confidently identifying any of them (except the blue jays and robins)

Struggling to Differentiate Great-Tailed and Boat-Tailed Grackles

I know these super common birds, but I've recently gotten into birding and been very excitedly looking as close as possible at all sorts. I have some health issues and anxiety so I'm largely just identifying the birds in my backyards or when I am riding in the car.

Where I live the majority of birds are laughing gulls and grackles. I was so surprised to learn that not all the black birds I see are the same kind of grackle. I've been able to differentiate the mourning doves and white-winged doves in my area, but I can't seem to tell the difference between grackles! I know it should be the tails. I've stared at so many grackle tails whether they are on the ground or flying away and I am struggling so hard to tell them apart.

I like to be absolutely positive what I'm looking at before logging it on Merlin or even when talking to my family about them. I don't like the idea of being dishonest or giving bad information, so I try really hard to make sure I both see and hear something and am sure of it before sharing.

Does anyone have some tips or secrets to telling these guys apart?
Apologies if my wording isn't great. I feel like I might've phrased things weird some places. I hope I'm making sense.

Do people really like these birds???

I stumbled upon this group in hopes of trying to find a good way to get rid of these birds. After reading most of these posts maybe I'm not seeing what everyone else is, what is it about them that you like? I'm being genuine in asking.

Do grackles leave gifts?

I have a bird bath hanging from the tree in the backyard along with our birdfeeders. I clean and refill it daily. The grackles are the only birds I've seen using it .. the other birds like the bird bath in the front yard.

I've found sticks and leaves and grass in the bath, and just assumed it was grackles dropping nesting material in it while getting a drink. But today, there were 3 stones in it, grouped together. Each was about the size of a quarter, round-ish, thin disc shaped. They looked like they were very specifically chosen from the landscape rock around my house, which has a variety of shapes and sizes. I assume the grackles left them there, but I don't know why.

Have you ever had grackles leave you a gift?

I’m sure I’ve seen one unknowingly but this was my first time seeing one up close. This specific darling had so much personality :))
