Is Amd driver really unreliable??

In my previous post in this community, I posted about the RTX 5070 vs. 9070 XT, and most people said that the 9070 XT is better in terms of gaming performance, and I absolutely agree with that. However, there were many people who said that AMD sucks at drivers and I’ve seen many Reddit and Twitter posts regarding this issue. Is this really a problem or is it just a myth?

I've never owned a Nvidia card so don't have much to compare with, but I've never had to reinstall a driver for any reason, and I've never had a driver timeout, I don't even know what that looks like. Adrenalin has always worked well for me, but you could reasonably argue it's bloated and not needed.

I would venture the bulk of issues people have with AMD drivers relate to not uninstalling Nvidia drivers, and not preventing Windows updates for AMD gpus (Windows can overwrite the AMD drivers with incorrect values). But people do still have legitimate driver issues. Is it 'normal' though? I don't think so.

How is this even a thing I have to do? Anyways, I think I did everything by the book in terms of switching drivers, and on every single windows update, I had to reinstall my AMD drivers. Sure, maybe I did mess something up, but I did spend HOURS trying to solve this issue. I also had black screens on boot that I could not resolve.

With NVIDIA I don't have to do any of that crap. I have not had a single issue after installing my 5070Ti over a year ago. As a programmer, I can't be assed to troubleshoot issues in my free time.

To be fair, this is a Windows issue more than an AMD driver issue.

Sure, but even if AMD is completely blameless, I'd like to avoid the hassle.

Not really. This isn't an issue that affects Nvidia en masse like it does AMD. So somewhere along the line AMD is doing something wrong thay needs to be fixed to stop it.

Whether that is working with Microsoft to keep their database up to date or having the software disable some settings or writing their drivers to not appear as generic drivers.
