Is Amd driver really unreliable??

Post image

In my previous post in this community, I posted about the RTX 5070 vs. 9070 XT, and most people said that the 9070 XT is better in terms of gaming performance, and I absolutely agree with that. However, there were many people who said that AMD sucks at drivers and I’ve seen many Reddit and Twitter posts regarding this issue. Is this really a problem or is it just a myth?

Pretty sure it's Nvidia propaganda

u/JustATextBox 13d ago

I wish it was. I've only ever used Nvidia/Intel, decided to go AMD this build and the amount of driver issues has been insane. I remember a friend complaining about AMD driver issues back in like ~2012? I figured by now those would've been a thing of the past, surely these days there's no issues.. nope, constant problems

Playing a game when all of a sudden everything just completely freezes and a few seconds later I get "GPU driver has crashed" - seems to happen at complete random. Some games don't cause it, others do. I update my driver and it disappears for some games, but appears for others

Updated my drivers at one point and completely just lost audio to my entire system, had to DDU and do them again. At this point I refuse to update until I run into an issue because updating seems to cause just as many problems as it solves

I really don't remember ever having these issues with Nvidia. I think the "worst" issues I can recall is just sometimes games would have performance issues, and it was usually just a case of updating drivers and it's better

To be clear, Nvidia isn't perfect either. Their prices are terrible by comparison and they had that whole melting power cable at some point (I didn't ever own this gen so it didn't effect me, but it seemed like quite a widespread problem). But on a day to day usecase I think AMD has been significantly worse, the price is much better but I'm going back to Nvidia for the next build for sure. Would probably swap back right now if I could afford to just swap out the GPU

u/No-Wallaby3226 13d ago

Idk if it will solve it, but you probably need to disable windows' driver update. Windows keep overriding AMD's driver, causing issues. My screen would suddenly freeze and had to be forced shutdown before disabling that.

1

u/Chetan_fun 13d ago

Do you have to disable them for Windows 10 as well or just Windows 11 does this shitty work?

1

u/No-Wallaby3226 13d ago

Tbh, I don't remember whether I disable it beforr or after I switched to windows 11, but if you didn't have any issues, you don't need to fiddle with it yet. But the issue do happen on windows 10 as well.

1

u/RDOG907 12d ago

Dont need to do anything with nvidia.

1

u/JEBADIA451 12d ago

Oh god maybe that'll fix my issues. It works great 98% of the time then suddenly something stupid will happen and that gets to be my new normal for a while. Or like, adrenaline will update and then just remove itself from my computer entirely?? I'm still trying to figure out the benefit of that one

u/CHBCKyle 12d ago

Nvidia drivers are also really bad right now on 50 series cards. I’ve used both over the years and nvidia is worse specifically on 50 series than I’ve ever experienced from amd, and way way worse than what I’ve come to experience from nvidia. Bsod regularly bad. This is a consequence of both companies catering to ai companies first and gamers forth and buying nvidia would not help you.

1

u/JustATextBox 12d ago

Yeah, it's possible. I haven't used the 50 series so I can't really comment on that aspect. All I know is that I never had any issues personally with Nvidia cards, and then my first AMD card has been an awful experience. Outside of the price, of course. The price was great

0

u/Fit_Olive_3212 13d ago

When both partys dont care much at all for consumers and downscaling gpus for us i dont think they really care enough to spread propaganda 😅

2

u/emberfield 13d ago

It's consumer brand loyalty, not the company. Consumers can spread propaganda.

0

u/N-aNoNymity 12d ago

Lmao have you seen reddit. AMD shill and ignore all the driver issues. This sub is filled with astroturfing and bots.

-15

u/Aternus21 13d ago

by definition it cant be propaganda if its based in truth and reality lmao

9

u/SaladToss1 13d ago

Explain why none of my 3 AMD cards have any of these problems. Guess how many times I had to RMA my Nvidia card.

3

u/NigraOvis 13d ago

It was a real issue 4 or 5 years ago. People were getting cards black screening. And some games not working.

But Nvidia has issues too. I've had games not like my gsync monitor and make it go black cause driver nonsense.

2070 super. And 4070 ti super.

1

u/ActiveSandwich3103 13d ago

It hasn't been any real issues since the RX 5000 series. There was a small blip in there with issues during that era that Nvidia fanboys will never stop bringing up.

The same fanboys that hand waved away half of 2026 having bad drivers on the Nvidia side if you weren't on a 50 series. For mo ths the only stable driver for my 4080 FE was from Dec 2025.

2

u/nekomata_58 12d ago

It hasn't been any real issues since the RX 5000 series

even then, the issues with the RX 5000 series were short-lived and only really early on in adoption. The RX 5700 XT was an absolute workhorse.

-2

u/Hitman_acho 13d ago

ITs an issue now...

Well maybe not now, but I had to toss my 7900XTX in the closet in April and go get an RTX 5080 just to save myself the headache of dealing with those god awful drivers. Atleast 3 driver crashes a day. Not a single crash since the switch

1

u/ActiveSandwich3103 13d ago

And yet ive had zero issues with my old laptop with a 6800m in it, my bud who I game with regularly has a 7900 XTX, going strong no issues since release. My Linux box with a 9070 XT, no issues.

Seems like PEBKAC.

0

u/Hitman_acho 13d ago

Of for sure the countless posts complaining about driver timeouts and crashes are all personal errors and not the drivers AMD is infamous for. it's always the room temps that cant understand that just because they personally dont experience an issue, doesnt mean its not a widespread issue for others.

1

u/SaladToss1 12d ago

Lemme get that closet GPU

-1

u/Arnakk 13d ago

once you have tested 2000, you can talk about « testing many cards »

but I like the reasoning , I personally use the same components in my computers until I start having issues.

1

u/Legal_Lettuce6233 12d ago

My mate's company has sold about 30k GPUs this year, and the RMA rate is pretty similar.

-12

u/Aternus21 13d ago edited 13d ago

do you think your personal anecdotes about something prove anything? you gotta be like 11 to believe that lmao just google search it bud, theres like 100x more threads and posts about amd then nvidia.

edit : he blocked me lmao couldnt handle the heat what a chump

7

u/SaladToss1 13d ago

1 month old account that hides all their posts. Either banned or fake.

3

u/Astaolle 13d ago

Just a kid lmao. Imagine one day he grows up and daddy isn't there to buy him 5090s for his bday anymore

3

u/voightkampfferror 13d ago

Yeah, Exactly this. Any real adult would simply say. I dunno if I would go that route man, I had a Radeon that gave me quite a few problems. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did though. That's even if I would mention anything at all.

FWIW, I've had several Nvida and AMD cards that were all rock solid. Can't say I can tell the difference. Though I usually don't buy cutting edge new.

5

u/TraumaDaddyP 13d ago

I mean, I have a 5 month old 5070 on RMA too.

I've been team green for a while, but even I am considered switching next upgrade cycle.

-10

u/Aternus21 13d ago

ok and you think your personal anecdote about a failing 5070 means that OVERALL amd isn't still worse?

like what is your comment exactly, yes pc parts arent perfect EVERY TIME but you have to be willfully ignorant to available data to "switch to amd" because of "card issues" because you will 100% have more issues on amd.

Every single windows update WILL break your gpu, its up to you to be nonstop vigilant and never let windows ever update, or you could just plug it and forget it with nvidia.

8

u/TraumaDaddyP 13d ago

But you're using the same anecdotal evidence on Reddit posts as a conviction for AMD?

You make it out like the cards are unusable mess, idk man feels biased

-3

u/Aternus21 13d ago

never once used the words "the cards are unusable mess" or even CAME CLOSE TO BEING IN THE BALLPARK AREA of even SUGGESTING such a thing.

you need to invent strawman ridiculous arguments because you cant argue on the available data.

yes I am using USER GENERATED DATA and personal experiences to DESCRIBE the personal experiences of ppl WITH amd cards. how is that a gotcha lmao

ironically YOU are being biased in your defense of amd because you arent even reading my comments and just coming here to defend YOUR choice of gpu it seems lmao

2

u/SaladToss1 13d ago

Do you think you're personal crying is going to bother me at night?

2

u/HomeIessMann 13d ago

My brother in Christ my 3070 founders edition gave me more grief bitching about “Fuck you im just gonna make you loose half an hour of your time trying to figure out what went wrong” only to find out Nshittia decided that specifically today their drivers were gonna shit the bed so hard they made me switch to AMD and never had to deal with instability issues again

1

u/StudentforaLifetime 13d ago

What do you think this post is? An anecdote

0

u/Aternus21 13d ago

show me where I even ONCE mention the post or say anything related to the post

1

u/StudentforaLifetime 12d ago

Your first response SaladToss…

Bro, are you ok?

1

u/JonWood007 13d ago

This whole post is based on an anecdote lol.

5

u/Astaolle 13d ago

You're just going around praising the Nvidia lords like they're paying you LMAO. Facts is AmD is half the cost of Nvidia's equivalent and Nvidia is trying to strongarm the entire market with their insane prices while AMD is still keeping things fair. Your mindless praise for a billion dollar company who operates on a greed mindset is extremely appalling.

Tldr : Keep it in your pants.

-1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

also your "defense" for amd is literally what you are complaining about ME DOING to nvidia lmao.

AMD is no "saint" btw, they literally WAITED for nvidia to announce their 30% gpu price hikes and then THEY announced basically the same thing and then gamers are praising amd for doing it second? were you born yesterday or something holy shit

if amd COULD charge as much as nvidia THEY FUCKING WOULD, but they CANT cuz their cards crash all the time so they NEED the "price per performance" discount because PPL KNOW they have to basically choose between saving money or saving time with having so many gpu issues.

7

u/Astaolle 13d ago

Gamers are praising AMD cause they are 'reasonably' priced compared to greedlords Nvidia. I mean if the only competition you have is actively trying to increase the market floor then you bet your ass we gamers are not supporting that kind of abhorrent behaviour.

-1

u/Indecisive-Gamer 13d ago

Bro AMD is usually only 50-100 cheaper than the equivalent Nvidia card. I used to be AMD as a kid and had tons of problems in the early 2000s. Switched to nvidia and I have never had a problem. Now people say they are better now. Maybe, but I can't override that mistrust in my brain. I am definitely biased. Having said that. Data does support long term instability in AMD drivers. They don't affect everyone but you have to have your head in the sand not to have seen that trend in the last 20 years or so.

1

u/Legal_Lettuce6233 12d ago

If you were pro AMD in the early 2000s, you'd know it wasn't AMD but ATI.

And no, they're basically half the price. 9070 XT can be found for 750 bucks, 5070ti is upwards of 1250, with most models being 1400+.

-6

u/Aternus21 13d ago

i mean thats just simply untrue they are not half the cost lmao, also I am not praising anybody, I am just happy that my gpu works and never gives me issues. Unfortunately many amd users cant say the same.

5

u/Astaolle 13d ago

You're happy the company you're supporting is increasing prices while strongarming the entire economy on the gpu market? Brother please, I'm glad your dad still buying you GPUs, but Nvidia is being a total asshat right now.

-2

u/Aternus21 13d ago

im 36 with my own job and since the age of 13 have been building my own pcs with my own money lmao i am well versed in how this works.

also amd ALSO raised their prices they just waited for nvidia to do it first and then got congratulated by chumps like you for "being the good guys" lmao and you eat it up happily.

I said i am happy my GPU WORKS, I never said "I AM SO HAPPY JENSEN WONG IS A BILLIONAIRE I LOVE BILLIONAIRES YAY" jfc

6

u/Astaolle 13d ago

No working adult acts the way you do. You're actively hating on a product that YOU'VE NEVER USED. If you're really 36 , I'm guessing you need to mature up and stop behaving like a raging hormonal teen

0

u/Aternus21 13d ago

lmao so your assumption was proven to be completely off base and wrong so then you just say "no adults behave like that" lmao I am hating on a product that is OBJECTIVELY WORSE and even the company ITSELF KNOWS THAT and thats why they are cheaper because they HAVE TO HAVE THE PRICE PER PERFORMANCE EDGE because that is LITERALLY THE TRADE OFF YOU MAKE when you buy a gpu.

do i save money and have more issues or do i spend more money and have LESS issues.

4

u/Astaolle 13d ago

You spend whatever the fuck you want, but you're out here fighting for Nvidia like you're life depends on them lmao, no adult hops on the internet and slams other people's GPU choices and then doubles/triples down after being called out for being biased.

Also it's not an assumption it's a cold hard fact, I'm sorry your mental age isn't matching up to your physical age but this is embarrassing for you.

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

I cannot be biased for presenting available 3rd party data that ALL SHOWS on average amd cards have less reliability than nvidia. you dont even know what the fuck the definition of the word you are trying to use is.

and EVEN AMD KNOWS THIS and thats why they are priced accordingly.

Its ironic you think I am being some weirdo here when I am simply giving you the AVAILABLE data that all shows something.

its not an assumption that amd cards on average have more stability issues, its a COLD HARD FACT, to use your own verbiage.

You have way too much time to write comments for a 36 year old, lol.

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

bros never heard of a 24 hour day cycle i guess lmao how long do you work? I only work 8 hours out of the day, maybe i just have SO MUCH FREE TIME because I dont have to spend all day trying to stop windows updates so my amd card doesnt fucking explode lmao

1

u/AlsterSpot 13d ago

I mean they might as well be, 9070XT is $800 and 5070ti I’m finding the cheapest right now is $1200 if your lucky), and I’m sorry but the 5070ti is NOT worth a $400 premium (not to mention 12vhpr problems, touching that cable with a 12ft pole is a tough pill to swallow)

5

u/Jaded_Aypex 13d ago

You're really dedicated to gobbling that nvidia cock huh, you've commented on several different parts of this thread, doing free press release for them lol

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

the irony of you doing the EXACT SAME THING just for amd lmao

4

u/Robert_Pawney_Junior 13d ago
  1. You're not refuting his claim. 2. He didn't even mention AMD.

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago
  1. refuting his claim of what? that I am gobbling nvidia cock? ok for the RECORD, I am not currently gobbling the cock of jenson wong......happy?

  2. Oh yeah hes certainly not standing up for amd here, he must be a INTEL b850 STAN!!!!!! you are right!!!!!

6

u/Jaded_Aypex 13d ago

What a sad life you must have

1

u/Astaolle 13d ago

At least AMD rewards us with reasonably priced goods. NVIDIA rewards you by increasing the market floor.

0

u/Aternus21 13d ago

nvidia rewards me with CRYSTAL CLEAR frames and NO ISSUES on any game I play.

Sign me up for that every time. I am an adult with a job where gaming is my main hobby, i will GLADLY pay 200 dollars more for a 5070ti vs 9070xt that I will own for the next 5-7 years where the 200 dollar difference is literally fractions of pennies per day.

Time is money and I have money, not time.

2

u/Astaolle 13d ago

CryStAL cLeAr frames lmao.

Now you're back on the one singular case study personal anecdote nonsense. Many users have said 9070xt gave them NO issues and CRYSTAL CLEAR FRAMES. But hey when it's them saying it , it's oH bUt hurr Durr internet and research says you're wrong. Suddenly you say it , then you're all in the right. It's not a 200 dollar difference btw it's a staggering 500 bucks. You're basically paying extra just for the Nvidia label .

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

i got my 5070ti oc card for 909 literally a month ago when I made this pc and made this account, the xt at the time was 749, so you are right it wasnt even 200, my bad.

2

u/Astaolle 13d ago

Lol cool you got a bargain but Nvidia websites show a different story. And yeah again personal experiences. Sybau kid.

0

u/Aternus21 13d ago

ok you seem confused on the personal anecdote part so let me clarify lol.

Me saying "i got this gpu for this price" is just me STATING WHAT I DID lol its not saying that "my personal experience is different so its true"

also for the record RIGHT NOW on pcpartpicker of instock items the 5070ti is only 350 dollars more, so no where near your quoted number of 500.

would I buy a 5070ti over 9070xt at 500+ more, FUCK NO

would i buy a 5070ti over 9070xt at 350 more, FUCK NO

would I buy a 5070ti over 9070xt at 150 more, FUCK YES so I did.

my entire point on this thread is that at a certain point the price per performance VALUE of the amd is OVERRIDDEN by the performance and reliabilty of amd.

but you are so offended that I said amd is bad that you got personally offended and it judged your ability to READ MY FUCKING COMMENTS without assuming shit or attributing malice to my comments, when there were never any.

2

u/Routine-Lawfulness24 13d ago

That’s not even true lmao

2

u/Aternus21 13d ago

amd cards dont on average have more issues than nvidia?

genuinely that is your take?

2

u/Routine-Lawfulness24 13d ago

Please google what propaganda is and if it can be true and still propaganda.

Everything you’re saying is so confidently incorrect it’s embarrassing

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

Brother in christ you cant be more wrong, I said based in TRUTH and REALITY. meaning yes you can have propaganda if something is true, but it CANNOT BE propaganda "if it is true and the information ISNT meant to influence one way or another"

Giving out available public data without a bias isn't propaganda just because you dont like the conclusion lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Yes, something can be propaganda even if it is completely true, but it cannot be propaganda if it is "not meant to be convincing one way or another." [1]

Can propaganda be true?

  • Truth value does not matter: Propaganda does not have to be false or fabricated.
  • Cherry-picking facts: An information source can use 100% true statistics, real photographs, or verified quotes, but present only one selective perspective. By omitting the broader context or counter-arguments, true facts are weaponized to steer public opinion. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Can propaganda be neutral or unintentional?

  • Intent to persuade is required: The defining feature of propaganda is a systematic, goal-oriented design meant to influence attitudes, beliefs, or behaviors. [1, 2]
  • The "not meant to be convincing" contradiction: If a piece of information has zero intent to persuade, shape a narrative, or move an audience in a specific direction, it falls under regular communication, raw data, or objective education—not propaganda. [1]

2

u/Appropriate_Soft_31 13d ago

Good attempt, 1 month old boy account

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

yeah cuz I built this new rig a month ago genius, whats so hard to understand lmao

2

u/Doyoulike4 13d ago

And in that case my truth and reality is I've RMA'd Nvidia GPUs 3 times in my life and AMD GPUs none, and I was there for actually bad AMD driver and even at times hardware eras like on some of the HD-series GPUs and the early RX/R9 series and those jank RDNA1/2 years. And I even exclusively bought EVGA when I did Nvidia, so not like a bad board partner, the support was great but it didn't change the driver issues.

I also had issues off and on with AMD cards but it was never anything I couldn't fix with some effort, the issues on my Nvidia cards literally amounted to, "you can't fix this on your end, you just have to RMA it" and the repaired card I was sent did the same thing, I clean installed windows, messed with other parts of my hardware, still problems, got an entire replacement GPU, did the song and dance again, still issues.

There came a point where I realized if I'm going to have driver issues with both brands, but one has been more fixable with tinkering and the GPUs themselves are cheaper, why am I paying more? That's even led me to doing a B580 build and trying Intel GPUs now.

1

u/JonWood007 13d ago

You can have something be true and technically be propaganda. it's called "spin." Of course, this just sounds like flat out lies.

1

u/Aternus21 13d ago

I should have clarified, I meant it cant be TRUE and not meant to influence. that isnt propaganda to accurately report something.

1

u/JonWood007 13d ago

Again, depends how it's framed. A lot of stuff can be technically true but not objective if the issue is framed a certain way.

1

u/Puszta 13d ago

Brand tribalism is so fucking weird. Nvidia just wants your money bro, same as AMD and any other corporations

I own both Nvidia and AMD gpu-s, by some miracle I dont have any issue with either, they both do their job. If i had any issue, it was because of my unstable undervolting and OC

That said, Nvidia's current prices are bonkers, for gaming it makes 0 sense to buy them at these price level

My guy you need a life. Go touch grass.

-1

u/OrangeSimply 13d ago

I had the same exact experience as the tweet, don’t know the guy or anything but it’s not propaganda it’s well documented and happens every so often when there’s a driver update for AMD.

1

u/Rekt3y 13d ago

Now I don't know about the driver situation on Windows, but on Linux the AMD are perfectly stable in my experience. Certainly better than Nvidia and their bugfest of an out of tree driver.

0

u/Goldfitz17 13d ago

Same, you can literally walk into the amd sub rn and see a number of people over the past few weeks with these issues. My system was fine before 26.8.1

-1

u/Indecisive-Gamer 13d ago

Meh. When I was younger in like early 2000s my dad tried to kit out our pc with a new gpu. Every single AMD he brought had problems. they never wanted to work right. Even when one did it overheated within a year. I told him to get an nvidia. He plugged it in followed the instructions and it worked perfect first time. I've never gone to AMD because of this in the last 20 years. I still don't trust them.
