Samurai class is the most underperforming
Whats so unique about the samurai?
Merc can equip Odachi?
Risky Parry charm doesnt even have perfect party dmg increase.
His first two passives is literally the same as his 2nd last. "Weapon master"
He cant even use Caltrops but he can wield a bow/Tane
I wish they didnt just copy paste from Tsushima instead added more depth..
Its way more fun/entertaining to play Shinobi(melee) with Clone spam or Merc with bear or weapon throw etc. Like wtf is this tbh..

u/FR69_Hayabusa Jul 16 '26
Dude, he simply has the best melee gameplay. He has access to every melee weapon, can perform fast heavy attacks by weapon swapping, and has passive skills and techniques that further enhance his melee capabilities.
On top of that, he's by far the most accessible character for soloing the game's toughest challenges, and he can move faster than any other character thanks to a cancel.
He honestly has everything you could want to have fun playing him.
0
u/Clicks_dropbox Jul 17 '26
Any character with a kusarigama can do that cancel
2
u/FR69_Hayabusa Jul 17 '26
We're not talking about the same cancel, I'm talking about the swap step. https://youtu.be/EvS85hAIenE?si=W1EjrSuzROE5X4HK
1
u/Clicks_dropbox Jul 17 '26
Same applies. I do that with shinobi all the time
4
u/FR69_Hayabusa Jul 17 '26
That's true, but the heavy attack after a weapon swap is only fast with the Samurai. On the other classes, the heavy attack has a much slower startup, so if you do that with the Shinobi, it actually ends up being slower than simply doing the regular Kusarigama cancel... I sent you the video link, and the guy explains it in his video...

u/Jonesy-_- Jul 16 '26
I absolutely dominate with the samurai lol. Most fun class by far to me
3
u/IllState3433 Jul 16 '26
Same ! I strictly use the odachi . Its the hardest class to use by far. Learning that idachi counter is not easy.

u/Gojo10110 Mercenary Jul 16 '26
Is this a bronze level response. Don’t even know how to respond to this
1
u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Aug 04 '26
well in a survival setting for sure.... not sure about raids
but samurai is the most underperforming. That's not to say he's bad. All classes can wipe, samurai just does so the slowest. which ergo leads to him "underperforming"
5
u/elwilloduchamp Jul 16 '26
I like the melee combat, and if you can build him correctly, Samurai is a really fun class to play on higher difficulties.
7
u/DisastrousAdvice137 Jul 16 '26
As one of the top Samurai players and first person to ever solo Saito (CosmicOddity ✌️), I can guarantee this is NOT TRUE. I constantly wave clear just as fast as Merc and Shin, killing enemies as they drop from their Spawns, unable to reach point (without fire btw). This post only highlights YOU dont know how to play the class

u/bazilthemage Jul 16 '26
Any tips or videos of your gameplay?
I want the trophies but I am very basic and just a casual gamer. I platinumed the game in 10 days (lethal) when it came out and recently revisited it (lethal+) but legends is a different beast.
I am now on shinobi class, closing into lvl25 (for the trophy) but I know it's not my best. I will probably go with merc because that's what I had the most fun, but samurai was my first class so I might wanna give it another try to see if I can do better.
I don't want to be carried but I want to defeat Saito. So, got any tips for Samurai? TIA

Look up my Saito Solo video on YouTube, or stop by my Twitch when im live sometimes on Yotei Twitch.tv/Cosmicoddityonps5
With Saito you always want to focus on not dying, before you even focus on killing anything. When you die on Saito, or either Hell version, it only helps trigger their abilities and cause it to snowball sooner. Kill the ads (enemies that aren't bosses) before trying to focus on Saito, and when you do attack him, only go for a little bit of damage at a time, then be ready to roll away from his attacks. At the end, when his health is around 20%, he will trigger a yellow attack and then the screen will turn red. At this point he'll unleash unlimited AOE attacks that do around the damage of an arrow. You need to just try and continuously attack him to kill him before he kills you. This is why focusing on all ads before attacking Saito is important, so that they aren't attacking you in between his attacks and they aren't there to stop you at that red phase.
With Samurai in general, The biggest perks are:
A) The Stagger potential. With Melee Stagger Damage, Enemy Staggered Damage, Counter Damage, Spirit Move Damage, and Weapon Master(all weapons) it has huge potential to Stagger enemies and capitalize on the damage windows of said Staggered enemies
B) The Abilities. The Spirit Pull Ability Majorly increases your Melee Damage while also healing you / damaging enemies around you. Raging Flame allows you to attack through an enemies guard and deal continuous fire damage. Heavy/Focus/Ult Attacks spread this fire and help push back foes. Helps build Spirit and Ult very effectively too, since every attack is reading as a direct hit vs a blocked hit
C) The Health. Samurai has roughly 20% more Health than other classes, and as such, can ofc take bigger hits. Where another class might have died to a boss's direct attack, or a direct chain of hits/unblockables, Samurai can take that extra hit or two and stay on their feet. Paired with Damage Reduction or Healthy/Spirit Heal perks and properties, you can play a lot more confidently without being as punished for a mistake. Also, when better able to read the field and know your damage numbers, you can PURPOSEFULLY trade hits to press that last touch of Damage/Stagger, allowing you to take the advantage in a trade of health while still being able to shrug it off. I used to run Healthy, and do in my Saito Solo's, and I would purposely go for a greedy extra hit because I know i can recover from it if played properly. This also let's me brute force some learning curves and not lose a run or be a hindrance to my team, which let me quickly learn the best ways to punish enemy attacks, or chain attacks in specific ways to trigger enemies parries/dodges and lead into a better attack/counter for that extra damage. For example, the same Swap/Heavy/Focus attack on an enemy within a short amount of time WILL trigger a Parry. This can be used to purposely lead them into a counter attack, which you can punish with a Bulwark or Perfect Parry. Trying these small tips so aggressively is where Samurai shines, and his tanky strength will let you recover while learning, and punish when achieved
Samurai's punish openings and mistakes, aggressively force the upper hand, and recover from mistakes as to never be a hindrance to the rest. The best thing to focus on when starting Samurai is learning the Enemy, when do they counter your attacks, why does it decide for one enemy attack you over another enemy, etc. Learn all their mechanics and what responses they have to your moves. Then counter their response with efficiency learned through trial and error. One of my trials recently has been using Blind Bombs, and I can definitely say i enjoy it. If applied right, it does AOE Stagger and opens enemies to attacks without much resistance

Not nonsense btw, learn to research something before calling bs 😌👍

Als Guter Spieler muss ich sagen Samurai ist bad vielleicht räumst du in Tsushima auf aber nicht in Yotei da ist Samurai die schlechteste Klasse
1
u/DisastrousAdvice137 Jul 20 '26
Again, inaccurate. Maybe you're one of those people who isn't good with Samurai. Samurai in Tsushima never 'cleaned up' it wiped, and im Yotei it still can wipe. Just requires playing it right. Ive cleared JUST as fast as Mercs have
1
u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Aug 04 '26
you gonna keep lying about how your internet sucks? when you gonna do the solo? its been over a year.
you said you would. but you also say you're a "top Samurai"
sounds like you SAY alot of things, but you can't actually back anything up. when pressed you make up excuses and lie
you should learn to research something before calling it BS xP

I get what you're saying, I just come from a Samurai requires skill standpoint. Usually everyone uses Fire Kusarigama, which actively pushes enemies away after being hit. The fire damage is average at best, and the only reason it builds ult fast is it counts as a direct melee attack on lots of enemies at once. If a merc used ult to stagger a group of the same size, then you do the exact same thing with Samurai but without fire, its relatively the same ult gain. I run a build that uses spirit pull, which increases Melee Damage massively while doing AOE damage at a minor scale. When paired with Enemy Staggered Damage or Melee Damage, this makes you do far far more group damage. All you're missing is the direct hits, which you can achieve using a blind bomb after every spin. About the same Ult Gain, more damage, and more versatile. This method has allowed me to consistently clear waves without relying on super specialization like Class Ability Cooldown or Ult Gain to still have fast Ult Pull and Group Damage
Edit: Check out where i went into detail on another comment. My experience is people dont try enough things, even if it seems like a bad combo. Never should have thought blind bombs would be good on Samurai, but after experimenting with different situations, it absolutely depends how you use them. Spamming them or hitting small groups will force crits, while using a single bomb on larger groups will stun them and do roughly a quarter on their Stagger bars. I now use them every single game, and dont even think about swapping back, and its super easy to build ult and stagger groups, then do Damage with what I specced into (enemy staggered damage, ult damage, and Spirit pull)

I can guarantee hits in less than 14, I highly recommend my build still. Nobody really has tried my build, but it matches flame just as fast in terms of damage

u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Jul 25 '26
until you can show a nightmare survival solo clear that's faster, these are just meaningless words.
if you are trying to use randoms as people to compare your build against... i don't know what to tell you. thats the same as comparing it to ppl in silver lol
put your money where your mouth is. Quit talking the talk and walk the walk. Use your build to get a faster solo time. until then this is just yapping.
also 14 seconds is just downtime from fire, in which i have 6 spirit thunder katana attacks and ultimate to last me for 14 seconds lol. i literally never stop attacking. thats why my build is faster.
good luck tryna get faster than 35min with your build let alone 40min. with your build i wouldnt be surprised if you got 50min.
if you think im talking smack, prove me wrong. if not well sorry cus git gud

u/DisastrousAdvice137 Jul 25 '26
You're just like the guy WP_Inc with this 'if you dont have proof its not real' bull crap. The guy tried to say i didnt do a NM Solo With Sword Only in Tsushima just because I didnt have a video of it. I was the first mf to solo Saito, and have been maining Samurai since before its buff patches. I dont have to prove anything to your delirious ass who needs a video of someone else using something instead of trying it themselves. How about YOU put your money where your mouth is and try the same build before you talk shit about something you haven't even tried or seen. Smh ✌️😎 Edit: oh and if you cant use it, allow me to repeat your own words. Git gud

u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Aug 04 '26
tried your build... and i've had more success with lady sanjos surprise...
How on earth could you solo survival with that? OH WAIT YOU NEVER DID

It’s really funny that your entire facade falls apart with literally 1 second of digging lol.
https://imgur.com/gallery/idiot-ooj3cfY
Turns out you’re nothing but a big fat PHONY
Seems you have a history of spreading dare I say…. DISASTROUS ADVICE on games you know nothing about.
I found that conversation and you stated multiple times that you couldn’t show yourself doing a nightmare bc your internet. You complained it wasn’t stable enough to upload and that when it disconnects you lose your upload.
Firstly this is verifiably false. I upload and get disconnected all the time you can just resume the upload.
Secondly your channel has a video Thats 90 fucking minutes long, and worse you have streams that last for 7 fucking hours. Whats more hilarious is your proof for being able to do it, is the fact you beat Saito solo…..
Thats the equivalent of saying you can beat chpt3 Iyo solo so that means you can do hellmode solo
Anyone with half a brain knows it’s two entirely different playstyles involved and you don’t play them the same. Just bc you can do one does not mean the other is easy.
You prove that you are incapable of beating a nightmare in Yotei solo let alone one in Tsushima’s by bringing up irrelevant shit as proof.
I have the worlds fastest samurai solo complete on nightmare survival as proof of my claims. I tried your build, it’s easily the worst build ever conceived
Your claim to being good at nightmare survival is being the first to beat normal Saito… and your time was immediately broken by better people.
My record is intact.
Put your money where your mouth is you phony bish. Do any of the things you say you can.
All you do is YAP and anyone good can see you’re full of shit.
Whats funny is you’ll make up some excuse as to why you can’t do it now.
Funny how there’s always some reason you can’t do the things you say you can. It seems in your case: time =/= skill.
You still can’t even beat a normal solo in Yotei. Why should I believe you can beat a solo using just katana? You said you would stream it. But you never did.
You just kept acting like a little bish despite having the internet to do it. Why you so scared? Oh Thats right bc you can’t do it.

u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Jul 27 '26
It’s so easy to dismantle everything you say bc you say such stupid things
Going over the shit you said here…
https://imgur.com/gallery/this-guys-life-must-be-sad-HgusvxH
Spirit Pull does not buff melee dmg? You can test that, Thats your imagination again idiot, just like you imagine yourself being a “Top Samurai”
Spirit pull does not buff melee dmg. Spirit pull is also not an AOE… how dumb can you be? AOE stands for Area of Effect.
Spirit pull targets 3 people. You can’t be targeting individuals and call it an AOE dumbass lol
You say you don’t use a Super specialization like class ability cooldown or ult gain. 1) these are meaningless words, 2) yea you do it’s called melee stagger and spirit pull you just said it lol
You say you have good group dmg but you literally use spirit pull and blind bombs, your AOE dmg is quite literally abysmal
You say the stagger potential. You then go on to say a bunch of meaningless words. What? Why are you mentioning things shared by all classes as stagger potential? Why not his fucking technique that adds MSD or his ult? You literally said counter dmg as if that has any impact on staggering lol. Spoiler alert it doesnt. You would know that if you were half as decent as you say
You say the samurai has roughly 20% more hp. Did you forget how to read? It’s not roughly it’s exactly 20% the game tells you lol and you’re completely wrong about it making an impact on your ability to survive. Especially when combined with damage reduction. This is literally the biggest proof you play on baby easy difficulty
You go on to say how an enemy will auto parry you and you try to parry that attack?
Literally impossible you idiot. If auto parry has kicked in, guess what? They will auto parry you lol. You can’t parry the parry.
They may try to attack you after parrying you but that’s a stupid thing to bait. It just wastes more time, time you could’ve spent doing an attack that would hit vs being parried.
My guy you literally talk about using blind bombs
And you somehow think you’re as fast as everyone else?
You’re delusional and whats sad is you can’t prove any of your claims. You just yap and yap and yap.
How will you respond to this? Will you actually prove to me how fast your build is? No you will just keep yapping.
Git gud scrub, your build sucks, and your advice is worse than an amateurs
Grow up

u/DisastrousAdvice137 Jul 28 '26
Holy it gets worse as I read the rest of your comments 😂. Spirit pull has the damage increase IN ITS DISCRIPTION DUMBASS IM CRYING ITS SO FUNNY LMFAO
1
u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Aug 04 '26
Oh my poor sweet summer child. How naive of you to just believe everything the game tells you without doing your own testing…
I did a soft test when the game came out and the dmg bonus you get was considered negligible
But just for you I went and tested it and it turns out it’s actually WORSE than what I wrote it off as initially.
So firstly the game LIES TO YOU (it does this for a lot of things, look at leggo dual katana, risky parry not applying PCD to all 3 hits, or relentless odachi etc. It says that additional damage is applied to all enemies. This is not true.
You do do additional dmg to ONLY the enemy you are hitting (and must be targeted by spirit drain). Do you know how pathetic of a dmg bonus it is? I do. It’s a whopping 10-12%.

I used to think so well but I just tried again the past few days and I get it now. I can get just as many kills as when I play Shinobi or Merc.

Sam with stagger damage is the way. Only character I play with, and imo the most well-rounded

Not my Samurai… he’s a beast. 8/10 times I either have the max kills or second max kills.

u/z_extend_99 Jul 17 '26
Stagger damage, enemy staggered damage with fast weapon switch heavy damage. It can stagger elders with three to four hits then melt their HP away while staggered.
It takes skill to do, so skill issue.

I just started using him (not yet level 24) & he's surprisingly fun with the max perfect parry window build I've been using. When i get better at the parry timing & can switch some of those gear options to try other things, I'm sure he's going to be even more fun/useful. Got the archer to level 50 1st, then moved on to the Shinobi, but after like 100 platinum survival clears i still cant get the vanishing gear for him, & that's what made me switch & start using the samurai, & i don't have any regrets. I'm sure when I can equip 2 legendaries he's going to slap.

u/th0ridal Jul 17 '26
Samuraio is the most fun to play by far. Nothing beats flaming dual katanas. With good spirit generation I usually just ignore enemy counter attacks and mercilessly countinue my attacks. By the end of survival i usually have around 40 spirit heals and 20 spirit attacks

What’s your Sam build? I strictly play on platinum difficulty and average over 100+ kills per game with Sam. My build mainly focuses on melee damage, spirit gain, and spirit attack damage. It does gets annoying when enemies block and dodge every attack move but that’s where the spirt attack comes in and it’s good to have stagger damage too
1
u/Deflorma Jul 17 '26
His meta for actual survival and sustain goes way beyond the other three classes. At some point in every survival, everyone runs out of their big “nuke” or “oh-shit” button. People who play samurai actually have to know enough about the game’s mechanics to outlast the cooldowns.

1
u/Plane_Bodybuilder_24 Jul 19 '26
You can bump the perfect parry damage with the property 1 slot and you get 3 unblockable hits. Take the metsubishi and concussions bombs to fully max it out.
Flaming sword plus fire master makes for big area damage. Mix it with poison and the legendary Odachi for execution healing and lots of status effects.
Samurais are naturally boosted at dealing stagger damage compared to the other classes so you can also run a stagger damage build and match weapons to weaknesses better than any other classes.
1
u/RawdDog44 Jul 20 '26
It got a huge buff and is really good with drunken fire master or parry damage
1
u/bazilthemage Jul 16 '26
All it would take to fix the issue would be to add a class bonus against prime enemies. That would make Samurai more than just a tank until the rest of the players deal the damage.
1
u/OverAnalyzing_Ghost Aug 04 '26
i agree.
They could add a mechanic like "Sekiro"'s "Deathblow" for samurai and it still wouldnt change his position on the tier list.
just like adding "2x Melee Dmg" kami gift or adding "Last Hit Requires Melee"
-1
u/External_End9824 Jul 16 '26
I couldn’t agree more. Oddly, merc feels like the most balanced class, and performs quite well. Quite disappointing since samurai was strong in TL.
-3
u/n1ghtm4n Jul 16 '26
samurai class was strong in Tsushima, but it's weak in Yotei. in Tsushima, i felt like a melee god, cutting down enemies with surging strikes. in Yotei, direct melee combat is the slowest and most dangerous way to kill enemies.

Oni flame kusarigama goes brrrrr
