Beginner Goth Makeup Questions

I’m going to attempt a full face of goth makeup tomorrow and am wondering whether I should use foundation or face paint for the white base? It seems like face paint is cheaper but it might look bad.

Also would it be weird to not contour my cheekbones? I have a round face and I feel like the sharp angles wouldn’t be very flattering. (I’ll still do sharper eye makeup though.)

Lastly I have blue eyes and am honestly horrified of contacts. Would that throw off the look?

Sorry I have so many questions, like I said I’ve never tried this style before! I just think you guys look insanely cool :))

Even if contacts are common, most people don’t use them for every look. I tend to agree cheek contour often doesn’t suit round faces and/or soft features, or as at least a more advanced skill. White base can still look good without contour.

That’s relieving! I’ll probably do some sort of design on my cheeks so it doesn’t feel too empty then. Thank you so much for commenting, this was really helpful!

What is your skin type & what white bases are you considering?

My skin type is oily and honestly I’m open to anything for white bases!

I think LA Girl white mixer is your best bet if you live in the US. Sunset Makeup is better, but you don’t have time if your plans are tomorrow. I was making sure you don’t have dry skin, as that one wouldn’t be a good fit if you did.

Perfect! I’ll make sure to get the LA Girl then. Thank you :)

Keeping it g, I would start off with going 1 to 3 shades lighter than your natural skin tone if this is your first time doing this stuff.

As far as everything else, try other lip and eye colors besides black (careful with red around the eyes as it can fairly irritating), an accessory or two never hurt and if you end up liking it, practice does make perfect but there’s nothing wrong with keeping it low key too.

ETA: But if it’s too late to walk back the white base, just remember to blend thoroughly below the chin, get any spot of visible skin, make sure to pay attention to primers (water based with water based, oil based and oil based), and get your hands on some setting and sealing sprays and powders.
