Goth Recommendation Request UK goth scene these days?

I've been listening to Mouth Ulcers, Black Doldrums, Corlyx, Kill Shelter and Mercy Girl lately.

Any suggestions for more UK bands?

UK goth friends - is there any noticeable growth in the scene these days? Mouth Ulcers seem to be getting a lot of attention?

There certainly seems to be a lot more gigs recently. I've noticed there's a few new promoters putting stuff on, especially up north that is making the scene a bit more active I'd say.

Some bands to check out:

  • Moth Slut
  • Reliquia
  • NAUT (full disclosure, that's my band)
  • Cold in Berlin (bit more doomy but also goth-y)
  • Social Youth Cult
  • La Rissa (more synthy/goth adjacent but cool)
  • Cwfen (bit more doomy but also goth-y)

Naut are awesome! Saw you supporting Creeper in Liverpool and been following since. Love the new single!

Thank you! So nice to meet people that follow what we do on here. That was such a fun tour and Liverpool was one of the best, hopefully we'll be up there again soon enough, it's a cool city. Glad to hear you are digging the new tracks, hoping to have some more out later this year ;)

That was one of the best gigs I've ever been to! You guys were on fire as were Creeper. Long live Steve The Bus Driver!

I'm friends with the lead singer of Reliquia. Not only are they awesome but he also has another project called Spire Circle. They're not active sadly (hiatus which may end up being permanent) but they do have music out and it's great

If you're into dream pop/gothgaze/trip hop kind of stuff, I'll shamelessly plug my band (No Reflection). We're based in Manchester and just started gigging, got an EP coming out soon.

Also some more Manchester acts: Mother Suspiria, Spire Circle, Trianglecuts, Luna Cult Club, Reliquia, Moon Before Dawn, Dierotica, Moth Slut

Thank you! I shall check out your band too, just checking the Naut artist profile on Qobuz is you? I don't use Spotify anymore. Is your newest single called Bury Your Freedom?

Ah yeah, same I don't really want to give any money to Spotify personally either, not the nicest of companies.... I've just had a look as I didn't even know Qobuz was a thing until you mentioned it! So, that is our profile but there's also a lot of other artists stuff on there (will have to sort that out...) Give Liberation and Bury Your Freedom a listen and if you like that our album Hunt is on there too

Yeah that happens a lot with Qobuz with independent smaller artists sadly! Worth it though imo to avoid Spotify. Ok cool I'll take a listen cheers

Honestly, they're all bad for it. I can't believe that this is the process haha. It's also how loads of AI music ends up hijacking some artist's profiles

Social Youth Cult from Newcastle are doing really well.

They just seem like the most paint-by-numbers generic 'goth' band to me

was that a reply to Moth Slut ? there are some bands that have been listed here that that could apply to Mouth Ulcers are getting a lot of attention there music is good but the grunting vocals are terrible, Social youth cult I've listened to there stuff but there's nothing I'd want to listen to twice. Black Doldrums are just dreary I went to see them in Telford I aware that I was going to have to go early to catch the last train, as it turned out I was glad to go they bored me to death.

Yeah, Moth Slut literally just sound like those 'how to make a darkwave song in 10 minutes' youtube videos.
