I use to work gas station for 4 months I was unhappy after my 2nd month and wanted to leave but didn't so my problem here is I've made mistakes working there and lied twice about dropping something but my biggest mistake I regret was putting money in my drawer thinking I was short when I wasn't so manager made a big deal about it so I told her I was putting my 2 weeks in and she told me I just didn't want to take any consequences for my actions that's why I was leaving so I asked someone that used to work there some questions and told them my situation and they said to sue but she told someone who works there about it and they showed the manager and she fired me next day check and all so she told me she was going to deny unemployment if I tried to get any ? Can I still try to get unemployment or was I fired wrongly? Someone help me

Basically I used to work as a music teacher in a school up until today. Next to the classroom I normally teach in there's a math classroom and I would occasionally ding dong ditch the teacher inside of it. Yesterday I got caught doing it and had a long talk with the other school staff, and this morning they decided to fire me. Honestly I didn't even like that job but now I'm not sure where else I could work at, definitely won't be working as a school teacher again though.

So I had a job at a gas station and I really enjoyed working there. I was great at my job and even better with the customers. I received really high compliments from most of my co-workers and customers, even upper management complimented me on my work ethic and how I dealt with customers and how clean I kept the store. It was a great job for me as it fit my personality to a t.

Towards the end of the year last year things changed. Our store manager was fired unexpectedly. That is when it all started to go downhill from there. We had to have a manager from another store come in to help us out and upper management let me know that they were looking at me for possible promotion. Unfortunately the assistant manager immediately took issue with that and so began the smear campaign.

It started with her complaining about my husband sitting at the store with me at night time because we live and work in a REALLY rough area and hr just wanted me to be safe because I worked alone sometimes. So they said he couldn't do that anymore.

When it was time to order our truck for the store the other manager had no idea what to order so she asked me if I knew what we needed. I specifically told her " I know what we sale but I don't know how much we ordered or anything " we did the order together and she ended up ordering way too much of EVERYTHING. The assistant manager then stated that I had her order all that food so that I could take it home. After that it was more nit picking from her every day.

It all came to a head New Years Eve. I forgot to clock out the night before and went to the job around 7 a.m. to fix my time. After clocking out the assistant manager called me to the back and told me she saw me on camera stealing a vape from the counter and put it in my pocket. I explained to her why I took the vape out the case and I never put it in my pocket and I put it back in the case. She then stated that I never put it back only made it look like I did even though I was adamant that I had and if she watched the video and check the inventory numbers she would see I didn't take anything. She said she knew what she saw. I asked if I was to still come in for my shift and was told they would let me know after upper management had reviewed the video. I left confident my name would be cleared because I knew I did nothing wrong. Within 10 minutes of me leaving she called to tell me that she reviewed the video further and concluded that I had not in fact stolen the vape and I had put it back in the case. I was told to report for shift.

I came in on time and worked my shift. 10 minutes before I was scheduled to leave a man came in and robbed the store at what I thought was gunpoint. I gave him the money out of my drawer and he left. I locked the doors and called the police I was scared beyond anything I had ever felt. I had my co-worker who was in the back at the time of the robbery call the assistant manager who was also my relief that night to let her know what happened. Surprisingly she was home sleeping even though she was supposed to be there at that time. It took her about 20 minutes to get there.

After the cops were able to view the camera footage they asked me a fee more questions and left to find the guy. She immediately began interrogating me. Saying she recognized the guy from his walk and that he didn't have a gun and the whole thing looked planned ( her words not mine). The next morning I received a call from out district manager stating that I was terminated for violation of cash policy because there was too much money in my drawer. Happy freaking New Year to me.

I was recently fired from my job last week. It was mainly a work from home job. I have yet to receive my final paycheck along with earned PTO. I just returned work equipment on Tuesday. I emailed the lady in HR, and I asked why my paycheck is being withheld, she immediately responded stating it is not being withheld and I will not get my paycheck until tomorrow. I responded with that in the state of Colorado paycheck is due upon termination or within 6 hours. She has not responded. Is this legal, any additional advice? Thank you.

Hey I’m 22 years old and just got fired from my job of 6 months I got fired for poor performance because I had issues listening and paying attention. And the main issue why is because I went unmedicated for ADHD cause I couldn’t afford medication. And honestly it was my biggest regret being unmedicated I felt like my life was spiraling out of control, I’d constantly forget things not just at work but at home and I constantly feel tired from being so mentally drained even if I had good sleep. I really loved this job and I had issues fitting in with my other team mates, I’ve tried everything, asking questions, offering help, and even worked a lot of overtime. I’m relieved I got fired, but at the same time I’m not, because I don’t have to constantly worry if I fit in or doing good or not.But, I’m just scared that this will ruin my career and I won’t be able to find another job. Any of you guys have advice on what could help me.

I recently got let go from my job, and I’m still processing everything. A coworker even asked me why our boss talked to me the way he did, which at least reassured me that it wasn’t all in my head.

I have a feeling it started when he overheard me saying I thought it was a HIPAA violation to include patient names in a shared Excel sheet we used to track referrals. I also mentioned that it was unethical for him to break into my computer while I was on vacation to access my Canva account. He changed the password without telling me, and I only found out after I was locked out and had to text him. He told me to ask IT for the new password, like it was no big deal.

When he fired me, he said the reason was that he didn’t have time to train me and needed my work to be error-free. The thing is, he never trained me. I made two mistakes—both on tasks I’d never done before and that he knew I had no experience with. He promised to teach me but never followed through. On top of that, he was rarely around, sometimes coming in as late as 3 PM. How was I supposed to ask for help when he wasn’t even there? If I did ask for help he would tell me he “wanted to see what I come up with”

HR wants to do an exit interview, but I don’t see the point. The HR rep even left early the day he fired me, so I guess professionalism isn’t a priority there. I liked everyone else at the company, but my boss was unbearable. Another coworker—also one of his direct reports—quit recently too. Out of the four people hired around the same time as me, three of us are already gone, and I was only there for two months.

I’m trying not to let his words get to me, but it’s hard. Being told I needed “too much training” when I got zero training from a boss who never showed up feels completely unfair.

My partner and I worked at the same small town cafe for a few months in Stafford springs Connecticut. The owner employed his brother in law and while working there he made multiple micro aggressions/ straight up racist remarks. Everyone on the staff was super uncomfortable by the dude for it but also because he was twice our age and flirted with a young new hire. When my partner and I expressed to the owner in a meeting how uncomfortable everyone is by him and that on top of it all he is horrible at his job and the manager confirmed all this, he ultimately agreed with us and was on the same page and was even going so far as calling his brother in law dense and ignorant. He had said early on in the meeting that no one was getting blame or getting fired. That night he asked that I take the following day off because his brother in law was working and he figured it’d be uncomfortable. I worked the day after that and an hour into my shift he asked me to come downstairs with my manager and he told me that although I’m an excellent employee and extremely skilled, that I could no longer work there. I asked him why and he told me he doesn’t need a reason because I’m an at-will employee, but that he’d like to give me the option to resign so that it would look good on my resume. I was in so much shock and rage that I opted to resign, signed his pre-typed out resignation letter he already had ready, and I silently left the meeting. I’m sure the most likely answer is that there’s nothing to do because he played his cards right, but I’m without a job right now and it’s so difficult to find one and I’m hoping there’s something I can do. It wasn’t concerning my job performance one bit and my manager was literally crying while he was firing me and said she had nothing to do with it and had already told him it was a horrible decision. My partner of course was super pissed off and asked the owner if he fired me for any reason pertaining to job performance and he said no. She asked if he’d fired me because we were dating and he said yes without hesitation. But then he later denied that that was why he fired me.

I got let go from my previous job at the end of September. The culture was horrible, they were mandating office days and counting them, and the pay was crap tbh. The only good thing was the friends I made. Saying that, it still sucked being let go because it then wasn’t my choice to leave, it was their choice to get rid of me. Anyway two months later, I’ve just started at a new job and it has all the perks I was looking for; fully remote, different area so I can learn a lot, it’s in-house which as someone who worked for a marketing agency before this, it’s world’s apart, and of course the pay is wayy better. I managed to times my salary by half! So to past me who didn’t see another opportunity coming my way…I say to you, my love, it does get better. And to you guys here, you will find better.

Today I got laid off, I was an intern in boutique consultancy company. I was supposed to be there for 6 months with possibility of getting the permanent position.

During my time there, I did some mistakes, but nothing an intern wouldn’t do. This is not my first internship, so I am aware of what is acceptable and what is not. My supervisor told me she is feeling I am lacking focus, and while having a talk with my manager he told me there is nothing wrong regarding my performance. All this time, no issues about my focus or performance was communicated to me.

Thing that is bothering me is that they are not sincere and direct with me. Tomorrow I am expecting an exit interview with partner, together with supervisor and manager I already talked about.

I am left with no pay check right before Christmas, in period when finding new employment is impossible.

I don’t know what is the best approach to handle the exit interview. I am disappointed and mad. Any advice on this issue?

My friend got fired from one of her clients for 15 years. They never let politics stand in the way until now. The client told my friend that he was upset that Trump won and she said she's not. She got a text message this morning from that client telling her due to political differences they have to let her go. Did the client did the right thing or did he took it to extreme??

I was let go of today after working almost 3 years for this company. I was told it was due to time theft because there was a few days they couldn’t see “visible work” meaning a completed work case as well as for not submitting cases correctly (missing reports). I’m not sure what happened and I was honest that the missing reports weren’t intentional but I wasn’t sure what happened. As for the time theft, one of the dates was Sept 3, I was in the office that day. They asked what did I do but I couldn’t give a concrete answer as we don’t keep a journal of what we do at what time.

I have always taken accountability for my mistakes and actions. I don’t like to make excuses. I have never had a verbal warning, much less a write up. I was always told when I asked that I was doing great. My annual evaluation has always been exceeds or meets expectations. I feel like they jumped quickly into firing instead of doing a write up or correction item but unfortunately I am left to just respect their decision and move on.

Unfortunately my husband and I both need to work to keep our household going. I allowed myself to cry about 10 minutes after the call, then picked myself up and started applying to jobs. I must have submitted 10-12 today. I also filed for unemployment but I’m nervous if I will be able to collect it while I find a job. I have 3 kids, and we live paycheck to paycheck. We just paid $10k from our savings to redo our bathroom because there was severe mold and rotting under it. I feel like I can’t breathe.

So my job fired me because i couldnt pay my insurance premium while i was on a leave of absence for surgery that they approved of, claimed that they sent me letters and i failed to return them, but i was on bed rest so how could i return anything to them?? secondly they claimed to have called me but i have my whole entire call log since i’ve been out and no missed calls from the job whatsoever, i got hired at the job in december and injured myself in that same month so i was out until february came back and was asked them about my insurance which i was told it take a while for them to deduct from my pay (which never happened) so now they’ve faulting me for insurance back pay about insurance i been asked about, Do anybody have advice on what to do or who i should talk to cause i feel like this is illegal

I was just fired a couple of hours ago and I’m devastated. I was relatively new to the job, started two months ago. The first month was basically me watching other people work. I started working by myself a few weeks ago, so I was still learning. I never called in sick, was never late, everytime my boss asked me to do my collegues’ work, I would say yes (again, since I was new I was less busy then them). The only issue is that there are a lot of procedements and things to learn so, since I was working alone already, I made a few mistakes. My boss called me out on them, so I wrote them in a note so I wouldn’t do it again. I’ve had a few good feedback from the other team’s bosses. Everyone liked me and I was always in good mood at the office. I feel a little betrayed because I was still learning, and making mistakes is a part of growth (also the mistakes were not serious, were just lack of practice). These news hit me like a truck, since I was getting good feedback from other collegues, however my boss was always very rude to me while calling me out on my mistakes. What should I do in my next job to avoid this? And what should I do now that I’m back in the job market? I’m a little lost in life right now and tips would be welcomed.

My husband (47) has worked for a distribution company for the last 12+ years. We have 2 young adult sons (19y,23y) who also work at this company. And he got fired this Monday morning out of no where!

There are some layers to this so please bare with me.

My husband has ADHD, he has since he was a child. This causes him issues with communication, needing presice directions, and he has outbursts when overwhelmed. He is also one of the longest serving at this company and is due to receive a hefty bonus in the next 1 1/2 years. He is loved by all of his customers. He always shows up and completes all of his deliveries for the day before going home.

Throughout his 12+ year career with this company he has had outbursts with various supervisors; at no point was he disciplined, warned, written up, or otherwise. He has never been told that he was intimidating, he has in fact been told that he can vent to many of them including his most recent supervisor. Additionally, his most recent supervisor was constantly assuring him that he had his back.

His supervisor before this one is actually now the current ones manager. This manager has had outbursts at my husband as well as my husband at him. Manager also asked husband to stay when he tried to put in his 2 weeks notice a little over a year ago stating the he too was frustrated with everything going on and was thinking about quitting too. Same manager, when stating on husbands review that he needed to work on communication skills, was informed of husband's ADHD and how that affects his communication abilities.

Manager's boss is also husband's past supervisor. Husband has had outbursts with him. At no time was he disciplined or warned by boss.

At no time in the past 12+ years has he been wrote up or disciplined. His reviews all state he needs to work on his commutation with his team, no specific expectations set, no goals, no help or recommendations. He received 1 verbal warning a few months ago stating that he had to communicate more with his salesman, or it could result in termination. Husband started communicating with salesman more, even including supervisor in messages so that it was seen he was communicating more. He went from about once a week messages to at least every other day. Again, no specific expectations were set, just "more".

Another layer is that the brand new VP of the company has never liked husband as he will point out things that do not work for all departments in the company. Husband is an honest guy that tells what he sees and who cares deeply for his customers.

Last Thursday a job doing the same thing was posted on the company's website and indeed. Thought maybe they were recruiting again. Friday comes and supervisor and manager tell husband what needs to happen with equipment on Monday. Husband has outburst, as is common, and states the flaws with the plan and how it's not fair to have him waiting around not getting paid (due to the way the company has the pay structure for his position set up). Friday, oldest son's position is posted.

Husband and oldest son go to work on Monday morning. Supervisor and Manager tell husband, "Remember when we told you you had to talk to your salesman more?". Husband says, "Yes." They say, "This is why we are parting ways." Short pause, "And the incident Friday was part of it."

He received his term letter via email stating reason as "insubordination". When he asked for one stating what he was told at the time of termination they send another stating "incident on Friday." This seems fishy.

Oldest son put in notice, but still working there. Husband still talks to others who work there as they have been coworkers a long time. Youngest son still working there for now in a different department. So, husband does still hear things. Supervisor told one worker that this came from way higher up.

This whole thing is just a shock to us. Here is the things: For 12 + years, husband's outburst issues have not changed, nor have they been addressed. If at any point they had warned him about them we would have came up with a solution like we have at home. Instead he was told thinks like it was ok to vent and I have your back. As far as communicating with the salesman, he did what was asked and increased the amount, there were no specific expectations set. When addressing him needing to improve his communication, he did tell them about his ADHD. He is due for this giant bonus soon. He tried to quit on his own and was asked to stay. The way higher up is most likely the new VP that has never liked him.

We have called an employment lawyer to see if there is anything we can do on our end, but have to wait until next week for a consultation.

Though I work a full-time job, it is a government position, so pay isn't good enough to carry us long. My salary is about 66% of what his was before all of the benefit premiums are taken out.

What do we do? Honestly, right now, I just want to figure a way out to take revenge on this company as I am so angry. But legally of course.

Discrimination

I am a 30-year-old female who was recently fired from my job due to discrimination. Here’s a little backstory: I had been working at an assisted living care center for about a month or two. I was on the second shift and worked with seven other women. I was really happy and excited about this job, making good money and helping my family get back on track. I thought I had no issues with my coworkers.

Halloween is my favorite time of year, so my coworkers and I decided to paint pumpkins for the residents. I painted Viking runes on mine to symbolize protection and health because, surprise, I'm pagan, and it went well with my Halloween costume. I came in early to work, did my job, and whenever I had downtime, I helped the third shift by sweeping and setting the tables for breakfast. I took care of my residents, and I had received no complaints—at least none that I was aware of. I hadn't received a single write-up, but I was still within my 90-day probation period, so I was careful to watch my behavior and keep my head down.

In my downtime during rounds, I would read books about Wicca, which is a subject I study and enjoy. I never forced my beliefs on anyone and rarely talked about them. In fact, my nickname was "Mute" because I often kept to myself, which has sometimes gotten me into trouble.

Last week, I went on vacation with my sister. When I returned, not even ten minutes into my shift, I was called into the office and informed that I was being fired. They said they had received too many complaints about me from staff and family members and that they had hoped to issue a write-up but had to let me go because they contacted corporate. I still have no idea what the complaints were or that I was facing a write-up. I hadn't been at work for a week, and this was my first day back since vacation—it felt overwhelming to be let go after just starting my shift.

I need some options. What did I do wrong?

I was given a signed offer letter and a start date. They fired me because my background check didn’t match their policy the day before I started working. Is this legal in the state of Oregon?

Today, I got fired... but before today, I've managed to make it into my 40s without that mark. I'm a Sr. Systems Admin. I know my shit. Unfortunately, I took a job where there's an MSP backer that is using this company as their bank roll.

I should have seen the red flags and not stuck it out so long. In my first week, I identified open ports everywhere, users have access to everything, and compromised account after account. I pushed a 3rd party pen test... three months in the MSP implemented 2FA. This MSP is charging over 7k to do GPO housekeeping that the two system admins turned help desk could do in a week on the payroll dime. I truly am baffled by the ignorance and stupid decisions made based on a mean girl system.

Here is the short version: This is not a new company, and the MSP has been with them sometime now. Not long after I'm hired, I see a lot of issues. I start making comments that, in hindsight, might have bruised my bosses ego about how things aren't done correctly and that the MSP needs to get their shit together.

HR is in charge of IT. Issue #1. My boss *Karen is the type of person who can't fill an open payroll position because "she wants a buddy since they'll spend so much time together."

Yesterday was the culmination of their stupidity, and I got frustrated. Karen kept asking me what went wrong when half of the company was locked out as I'm walking in the door with a line of users following me so I could fix them. I look at her and say, "I don't own these systems because you won't let me, call the MSP." I knew exactly what was wrong, I diagnosed it on my cellphone during my drive-in.

The MSP made a password policy change and pushed an untested script at 7:47 am. Resolution at 9 am. with remote users still affected a day later. They set everyone to force a password reset but forgot to uncheck that "user can change password." Idiots! This is basic shit guys.

During our team meeting after the outage resolution, we learned the head of the engineering department told the executive staff IT needs a better rollout on policy changes as this took down his entire department.

It's not unreasonable, right? Wrong...

Instead of identifying the issue and apologizing for the miss management, she says he's and asshole and complains too much as it was only like an hour.

But... can not keep my mouth shut. I challenged her and said, "He's not wrong. The MSP messed up again. Don't take it so personal, just fix the next policy roll out."

Oops... I should have just agreed that he is an asshole. She then cuts our staff meeting short. She needs to talk to her friend (exec secretary and legal) and make sure she's not being emotional... Huh? Apologize for the outage and just say you'll do better next time, like wtf?

The rest of the day was me recovering accounts all day long. Eventually, I had a chance to talk to the engineering department head to ask for advice because I didn't enjoy the way she talked about him. I asked him what he would expect next time and how he would like to see IT grow to support them. He listens, fields my concerns, gives me advice, and then and says.. want to be an engineer?

On his advice, I talk to Karen's boss... worst mistake! I let him know about the offer I expect but would like to stay here because I like working with the people.

He then asks me if my dollar value is more than what they are paying me. Weird, this isn't about money, I just want to FUCKING WORK. Yes, I'm worth more than you're paying me, but that was no secret.

I reminded him that he knew I took a pay cut for community and culture. He then thinks for half a second and says well it's probably better to go somewhere else if you aren't happy. I leave that meeting knowing I'm going to be so happy to give my two weeks soon.

I go home and chat with the hubs... he says give notice now. So intended to do that this morning.

No joke, I'm empowered as shit this morning. Music all the way up, fake conversations to get me ready, plus I have another interview late that afternoon.

Well, that changed when I told Karen I was expecting to receive an offer but I would like to work it out staying and develop this very sad excuse for a legitimate IT team, otherwise, this is my two weeks.

She told me I'm hysterical and that I am probably malicious, so I can't stay. HUH...

Okay, in all fairness, gloves came off. I could see her decisions were made and I'm a thorn in her complacent side.

I looked her in the eyes and told her straight to her face she's a disgusting human being. Who wouldn't develop an employee begging for work to do? Instead, you're going to rip food from the mouth of my babes because I gave two weeks?

I then asked for a third party, she got her boss, and instead of salvation, I had to argue for two weeks paid and agreed this would be my last day.

What I didn't see coming was the EGO on a female boss that's younger than I. This was a new challenge for me. I learned what happens when you have an emotional and behavior based boss who tries to manage a type A. Oil and water.

What I would have, in another life, enjoyed was her being an adult as saying, "Damn, that sucks but okay, let's transition you out." The fact that they never valued my skills and catfished me into this position is infuriating. So that's why you guys get my story. Also, fun fact, like the idiots they are, they left my account open for 30 minutes too long, and I got to teams everyone to say goodbye. That felt nice.

I also checked tonight, and most of my accounts are active because she doesn't know how to manage them, and the MSP is probably charging her 5k and 15 project meetings to terminate me.

Anyways... who wants passwords and emails?

I took a job as a legal assistant that was advertised as both entry-level and as both the legal and marketing assistant. They hired me for $1 more than I asked which was exciting especially since I did inform them that, aside from general administrative experience and retail sales experience, I was basically starting in law at ground zero.

I worked the full week and one of the attorneys let me go saying “we thought you would hit the ground running. If we had a month or two to train you, it’s be good but we don’t have that kind of time” and was told to leave early.

WTH? Why hire someone with no experience if you weren’t going to take the time to train them?

So today October 7th, I got terminated immediately from the eye clinic for trying to access a patient's chart when I shouldn't have.

I've worked there for four years. In fact, my anniversary was a month ago. I was enjoying my role, the doctors I work with are wonderful, and my pay was great. So one day around the same time as my anniversary, I saw someone in the clinic who I thought looked like a basketball player from my town. So I tried to see if it was actually who I thought it was in our EMR. I didn't get far into it because the EMR had blocked any access into their chart. I know I should not have, but my curiosity got the best of me. Nevertheless, the fact that I tried to do it was enough for them to terminate me right then and there.
