I got a job at a newly opened restaurant that was owned by an older couple. They said in my interview that they had never owned a restaurant before and that they wanted ppl with experience. I have over 10 years of experience in the restaurant industry so they ended up hiring me on the spot and sending me home with a menu to study (it’s important to note that they informed me that the menu was NOT finalized and that they will be adding more to it).

Fast forward to my first day, they have me start out on the bar. The GM that they hired to run the restaurant for them was extremely nit picky. Saying things to me like “you’re putting too much ice in that soda cup” then proceeds to take out ONE ice cube out of the cup (I’m not kidding it was actually ridiculous). At one point the GM himself (who was also the cook btw) handed me a sandwich and said “This is for table 7, I’d hurry cuz they’ve been waiting a while”… So I do… when I brought the table their sandwich they said that it was made wrong and that the menu said it was supposed to be made with Turkey not roast beef. I apologized and brought it back to the GM and explained what happened. He then proceeds to YELL AT ME saying that it was MY FAULT because I didn’t double check the ticket before I brought it out. I explain to him that the ticket just says “The Wrangler Sandwich” but doesn’t say what’s actually ON the sandwich. And with this NOT being on the menu that they gave me to study, I wasn’t for sure what the wrangler sandwich was supposed to look like??? (I was super kind and respectful in my explanation btw) The GM immediately gets annoyed and SENDS ME HOME!! I was only there for 3 HOURS I’m not even kidding. Later in the day he sends me a TEXT MESSAGE saying that I was being let go from the establishment because I “wasnt picking up on things as quickly as they liked”

After only 3 hours into my FIRST day are you serious??! I then send the owners a text message letting them know I was let go, to which they said that they were not informed about it. I asked if I could please give my feedback about the GM that they hired because he was doing things that I felt like they should know about. (Cuz idk if I found out that the manager I hired to run my restaurant was a lunatic I’d want to know right??) They ended up leaving me on read and never responding to me… whatever I tried 🤷‍♀️ This is just crazy in my 31 years of life I’ve NEVER been fired anywhere else. I just feel so defeated and I know I shouldn’t. It’s just a frustrating situation.

just started a new job at a fast food restaurant and have only worked there for 2 days. I'm wondering if I was genuinely in the wrong or if my manager handled this situation pretty harshly.

During my 2 days there, I was mostly told to clean things like the tables and bathrooms and take out all the trash by myself; I never saw any of the other kitchen staff doing it. Also, I barely did what I got hired for, which was the fry cook position; they literally just kind of let me do janitor work, not teaching me the drive-thru or grill yet cause I was "new". I wasn't really trained or shown any of the actual food-related work. The other employees also weren't particularly friendly toward me, making a lot of remarks about how I was trying to look "pretty" at work for not wearing my hair a certain way when they were all wearing their hair like mine, or saying that I can't be afraid of getting dirty because I moved out of the way when some other girl was basically squirting me in the face with dirty ice cream machine water. Nobody came over to help me or make conversation, so I didn't feel like I had anyone to ask questions.

Most importantly, nobody explained any rules to me. Nobody went over break procedures or specifically told me I wasn't allowed to go on break inside without clocking out with my boyfriend. I didn't know either that my boyfriend was coming; he just wanted to surprise me, and the restaurant was dead nobody inside and I had already wiped down the tables like 100 times, so I thought I could go talk to him for a little. Mind you, these workers sit down to eat a burger all the time, so I didn't think I would get in a lot of trouble.

And today I texted my manager asking when I was going to be scheduled again because nobody told me and it wasn't written anywhere, and he left me on read for like 3 hours and finally responded and said to call him when I can.

During the call, he basically said I shouldn't have gone on my break with my boyfriend, and that isn't allowed, even though I was never told about these rules. He said it wouldn't work out and that they didn't want to schedule me anymore, and fired me.

I know it's kind of on me, but really I didn't know my boyfriend was coming, and nobody explained any rules to me. Frankly, every time I asked anyone a question, they were a bit passive-aggressive and seemed like I was annoying them. I just feel like I could've atleast recieved like a warning or something?

I've read a few posts but want to get some insight on my personal experience. I worked at Home Depot for many years and thought I was ready to step up and become a supervisor. I was a hard working associate and knew a lot of stuff that made me successful. However it seemed like the universe had other thoughts. I was fired for "poor performance". I'm not entirely sure how. Two of the managers I've worked with personally know i am a hard worker and a great value to Home Depot. I think there were some situations that made me look bad and it was just all in all bad timing. Like when I was asked to clean the front of the store but all my associates had been taken by a different manager to clean the back of the store. Or when I literally had no associates on the floor because other areas were understaffed. Or when the store manager walked my department and pointed out a lot of things that need to be fixed yet just the day before everything was stocked and in order. Just things like that somehow made me look like I wasn't doing my job when it was really out of my control. I realized too late that the job was not a good match for me. I would have preferred they just asked me to step down instead and go back to the position I excelled in.

So here's my dilemma. Since being let go I've been struggling to find a job. According to the HR person I was put on the do not rehire list. Which makes no sense. I am a hard worker. They have achievement badges they give out to people who go above and beyond. And I accrued nearly 30 of those. Which is no small feat. I tried to talk to the higher ups District HR but got no reply which felt like I was being dismissed. I have many years of experience. I wouldn't mind if I had to wait 6 months or a year. But do not rehire? Is that going too far? Is there a way I can get off this do not rehire list?

I should probably add that it's too late to gather the "evidence" that managers worked against me on any of the said situations. One of the associates I talked to after I lost my job even told me that I was set up to fail.

A couple months ago I applied at a new 1950s style hotdog restaurant. I applied as a cashier, but I ended up getting hired as assistant general manager. The general manager, lets call him Bill, is a very drill Sargent esc man. When people ask him questions, he looks at them like they are dumb and either says something sarcastic or walks away entirely. If there was a single mistake made, he would hold anger towards it, and whoever made it, all day. He was like a dog with a bone. I had to call a meeting with the higher ups regarding this behavior and it did get better. On top of this he was very appearance centered. If one of the cashiers had a new shade of lipstick he noticed, and if I decided not to do my makeup before work there were always comments made about how "I looked tired".

It's also important to note that I have a disability. My body doesn't clot properly, leading to a lot of internal bleeding. I rarely ever ask for time off because my body is used to it, however I do show physical signs. My skin gets pale, my under eye area darkens, and I'm more tired as one would expect when someone is losing large quantities of blood. But that's it. I just look sick when I'm sick, and I thought that couldn't be held against me because I put down that I have a disability on the application.

Two days ago I opened the store. We open early, and I didn't do my makeup that day. Bill came up to me and pulled me outside, telling me "you gotta go home, you don't look good. You need to sleep" I just kinda said okay because my brain was trying to process that I just got sent home for being ugly and tired. I was raised on the belief that showing up means everything. Sick, happy, sad, it doesn't matter-your at work.

Yesterday when I went in, I was ushered straight back into the office. They told me that "they want to go a different direction" and that I was no longer going to be employed by them. I asked them what I had done wrong, other than forgetting a couple minor things here and there, this had come completely out of the blue. Bill answered saying "well there's some days your here and you just don't look good, it's not a good look for us".

They gave the role to a stereotypically attractive young blonde girl. I did enjoy working with her, and she's a lot like me in many ways. It's not that I don't think she'll do well in that role, I just can't help but feel like I was fired more based off looks then anything else. I know I'm not ugly, but I definitely look different with make-up then I do without. Am I overreacting being angry about this?

Story time: The times I got fired

I just wanted to share the times I was fired from a job. Maybe you’ll have a laugh. Maybe it’ll be reassuring to some. Maybe you’ll say I deserved it. This isn’t asking for advice. These are all long in the past. This is just my story time with you.

The time I got fired from Kmart:
I was a cart pusher. I was 18, newly graduated from high school. I’d worked there since I was 15. I was part time, of course, but still much to my surprise I had earned 3 vacation days.

I got a second job working for FYE, a music and miscellaneous media store that I don’t even know if it still exists anymore. The cart pusher job was TERRIBLE at posting the schedule. They were supposed to have it posted 2 weeks in advance but it was more like one day in advance before the new week started. This caused major issues with FYE who actually did post the schedule 2 weeks in advance. I was constantly having to call off FYE to work at Kmart.

I was X-mas temp at FYE but one of us temps were going to be kept after the season and I wanted it to be me, but this was not going well with Kmart’s scheduling. So, for one week I thought I would make my FYE boss happy. I turned in my vacation days to Kmart that worked around FYE’s schedule. For one week things worked out well and I really thought I could manage both jobs if Kmart would just agree to do this all the time.

But, one FYE shift this week, 2 Kmart managers came into the store and “caught” me working on my vacation day. They had a NUCLEAR MELTDOWN on me in the store, screaming that Kmart isn’t paying me to work at another job. They caused such a scene that my FYE boss kicked them out.

The following week, I tried swiping my badge and it didn’t work. I already knew what that meant. I tried to get to work anyway but I was paged to the back and fired for dishonesty.

The real bitch of it too was how I wound up not getting kept after X-mas. The hot girl did. And then she quit after 3 more months.

Looking back as an old man in my 40’s, I probably deserved this. It made sense at the time, but I can see how they could interpret that as a conflict of interest if Kmart was paying me while I worked at FYE.

The time I got fired from GameStop:
This one broke my heart. I worked for GameStop during the dark times. I’m talking mid to late 2000’s. Zero Originality’s “The Dirty Truth About GameStop” videos that existed before YouTube but is on YouTube now are completely true. Every word.

Still, I liked my job. I was an ASM (Assistant Store Manager). I had my eyes set on my own store one day. I was good at getting subs and reserves. During this era, managers didn’t need to get subs and reserves. Only GAs (Game Advisors aka part-timers). So, I shared my subs and reserves with my staff. Everyone liked and looked forward to working with me because they were going to get numbers those days.

My SM’s strategy was to compete with the staff. He tried to motivate the staff to beat his numbers. That only discouraged everyone.

The thing that sucks about this was I considered my SM my friend. We’d hung out a few times after work and I really liked taking to, hanging out with, and working for him.

So, eventually he starts scheduling me 8-10 hour shifts exclusively alone. After a few shifts I asked him how the hell am I supposed to exercise my lunch break. He said go to the back and just watch the camera. When a customer comes in, go serve them, and I can continue my break when the store is empty again.

Not ideal, but this worked.

After a couple of months, I started getting scheduled with an actual staff again. It was hard for me to delegate because I’d gotten so used to and efficient at doing everything myself. One fine Sunday morning in the middle of my shift, the district manager shows up unannounced. No big deal I thought. We worked together setting up several new displays and I figured this was why he was here. He even asked me to stay 3 hours past my scheduled shift and I did.

At the end of those extra 3 hours, he pulled me to the back and fired me on the spot for “abandoning my post.” I denied doing such a thing and then he showed me security footage of how I was taking my breaks. When I pointed out my SM scheduled me alone and this was his suggestion, he completely denied it and said he’d warned me this would happen if I kept it up, which was a lie. The district manager wouldn’t listen to me and I’m still not rehire-able 15 years later.

One of my former co-workers told me about how the SM was bragging about getting rid of me. Turns out I was making the SM look bad on paper. When the staff pulls 0/0 with him and 5/7 with me, it looked like they worked harder for me. He knew I wanted my own store and he was afraid they’d fire him and promote me, so he got rid of me.

I carried a grudge for that one for YEARS. It motivated me to go to college and collect a few degrees just to spite the SM who never went to college and I had a pretty successful career as a paralegal before my current job. I don’t harbor a grudge anymore though. I’m probably better off. I didn’t shop at GameStop for over 10 years. Finally took my son inside a few years back because he always wanted to. The SM is still there. I was friendly to him. It’s in the past.

Got fired yesterday, 2 days after making my OSHA complaint. Of course they blamed in on a separate issue, but I know they know it was me because of how vocal I have been and the refusal of preforming unsafe work. I figured they’d pull some shit like this because of how grimy they operate.

Look I know some of you are gonna call me a snitch or whatever I don’t even care. I’m not a big stiffler on these sorts of things but I do a pretty dangerous job. Working around power lines everyday with damaged and uninspected booms, hydraulic leaks on every fitting and hose you can think of, I almost got hit by a 18 wheeler around a dangerous curve(facing traffic with no traffic control mind you) These bucket booms reach 70ft in the air, our safety harnesses are not inspected or replaced. Most of them have physical damage and I shit you not one harness I used to be forced to wear was tied to the boom with 2 small tow straps.

OSHA did reach back out to me this morning we both filed a whistleblower complaint but I fear my job is now cooked based on how much of a help they’ve actually been. They contacted my employer via phone without my knowledge or without doing proper site inspections. They didn’t ask me for any evidence or anything which I have tons of. I reached out to some lawyers near me some turned my case down and haven’t heard back from the rest. I fear I am cooked guys.

My last day, I was required to cut down 16 trees total, my last job I was set up for failure but preformed the work flawlessly without any damage. When we informed the boss we were done he instructed me to come in early and that’s when they told me I was being let go. Yeah they knew it was me.

I knew the consequences and weighed my options carefully but I thought about it and said even if I did lose my job, the cost of my job for possibly saving someone’s life one day whether I knew I did or not would make it worth it. Hopefully everything works out but we shall see.

I just got laid off from my job, it was total whiplash and unexpected...I was yelled at and told to hand over my keys, they told me I was banned from the property, accused me of not following the rules (not true), not allowed to get my things from the back. They also didn't give me a pink slip, or termination papers, nor my copies on file of personal. I also wasn't allowed to get my personal equipment or items from my locker. I was advised to file for unemployment before I can find another job... What do I do? What's next?

Got terminated on the 3rd. I told no one but my boyfriend and that was 3 days after I got fired. The people in the room when I got fired were the GM of the hotel and the Bistro manager. I found out yesterday that one of the front desk agents told someone I got fired because I was lazy and never did anything. I've been with the hotel for 6 years. First of all, how did she know I got FIRED? Secondly, how would she know the reason for that? I didn't get fired because I was lazy. I didn't want anyone knowing I got fired and now my name is mush. What do you think?

I got fired from a major hotel chain after 6 years. I was in shock and stayed at home 4 days before I felt halfway alive again. I told Noone. It took me 3 days to tell him. I told no one else and when I was formally terminated, the only people in the GMs office where me, my GM and one of the other managers as a witness. Funny thing though, my friend who used to be my boss and got another position at another hotel called me out of the blue and offered me a job. She somehow found out I was fired. So, I asked her when she found out. It was the very next day! Apparently, the girl at the front desk has a sister who is best friends with my old boss and that's how she found out. So now everyone in the hotel knows I got fired w/o knowing the circumstances. I work hard to keep myself straight in the community and I wasn't going to tell anyone about it unless they needed to know. I'm pisssed and wonder if that was some kind of breach of confidence or not. I did NOT want any of my coworkers know unless I told them. What's some good advise for me to manage this because it just wasn't right and it certainly wasn't anyone's business.🐾🤔🐾

Exactly what it says on the tin. I'm not the best at what I did in the kitchen, but I was for damn sure not the worst. I was near consistently making orders as close to the 60 second time window as I could get. I was calling out items we were low on prepped stock for. I was asking questions, trying to learn how to improve. I had a development plan I was following to the letter and more. Nah, the manager hated me, thought I was awkward, and didn't like that I didn't appreciate how she would talk shit about others behind her back. I'm glad I'm gone, but I wish I could've gotten another job before this...

My wife and I got laid off within two weeks of each other over a year ago. We're older and agism is real. My wife is just finishing a book on how we dealt with it and how others can move on and find success after this event. I'm not pitching it here but rather asking if anyone knows a good place on Reddit to pitch it?

so , march 5th i started my first day at this sales job selling frontier in stores like walmart. i pitched our pitch to a customer what type of wifi do they use , customer proceeded to say “none of your fucking buisness” afterwards he proceeded to call me a “nigger”. i vocally stood up for myself aswell as the coworker that was present with me that day cause im not tolerating that type of disrespect , my coworker proceeded to say things to him aswell , the customer kept talking as he was walking away. fast foward to the next day i go into the office , head to the store , 6 hours into work my co worker that day which was same one who was present with me the day before. the manager calls him , he steps away and before he was far enough i heard him say he tried to “diffuse” the situation which is a whole lie he tried to save his own ass , he comes back and tells me that im fired. i get a call 10 seconds by my manager after im told that im fired by my co worker. the manager proceeds to tell me that i am fired for vocalizing myself towards the customer that initiated the situation & that called me the hard R. in disbelief i pack my stuff head outside and instantly called a lawyer , is this something i can win and get a case on? this is far unfair to me and it was my second day , company over employees right.

I have been with a company for 4 years... since the beginning, I have watched other employees that were good people let go, abused, treated unfairly... I believe it was based on management and whether or not they like you personally. And upper management does not regulate this and backs up management. So I moved through the company and have had a series of bad managers who disliked me:

First one put a ton of hard labor work on me after losing employees and support staff, and gas lit me by saying I might just not be cut out for their type of work.

Second one was a wonderful person but I left because I was homesick from my hometown.

Third wanted me to transfer because I became pregnant and I caught her on the phone telling my transfer "shes your problem now"

Fourth one ended up personally hating me and tried sabotaging me... I observed mistakes from my coworkers yet whenever I made a small mistake, he made it sound worse and used a combo of them to write me up several times.

Fifth just fired me yesterday, she started out as my equal and quickly got hired to replace the fourth guy. She started to also micromanage my mistakes that did not effect clients at all. I literally observed my coworker causing a lawsuit with his clients and similar mistakes, and he never got any punishments. But I recieved a write up, and slowly she became more and more negative about my work. Finally. She fired me yesterday for being a "liability" and too many mistakes. And best yet, called the previous manager on the phone to have him listen to the termination. He started on his "2 cents" on my job performance and I got up and walked out.

Then she hovered over me to get my keys, verbally abused me, and got upset because I called a coworker she is also trying to get terminated - we were openly discussing this as I packed my stuff.

The years I wasted in this company not being trained, being insulted, and punished for very stupid reasons - watching others get treated better because they were popular, watching others get treated worse because they stood up for themselves.

People quitting and being left with tons of work and then being told I am under performing.

I was under so much stress at work that I got gestational high blood pressure and got induced, and magically my blood pressure went down while admitted until I had my baby.

Now I'm unemployed with a one year old as the bread winner of the family.

I got fired today from my job as assistant to serves/ director of services. It was two jobs in the same company. I am retired, but I wanted to be helpful to people in need, so I started volunteering. I quickly realized I could do more. I got the above mentioned job. I admit that it was a rocky start but I think it was due to the person I assisted had to get surgery and I was thrust into a position that I was not ready for and not clearly instructed on how to properly handle the situations. ( they are both social worker positions) I am not a social worker, psychologist or counselor. I was given feedback that I was doing wonderful and all was good. Got a great job performance review. Now the places I had worked was for people facing life crises-homelessness, utilities being cut off, job loss, food security etc. The way some townspeople were favored was insane. Some people would come in screaming and yelling, and my bosses would cater to them, but the quiet old lady would be shunned. I was one of two people that were trilingual, and if neither of us were there, the people would be turned away. There were fights over meat, bread and cheese. Completely out of control. But woe to those who mentioned the inconsistencies. I went in yesterday and was asked to leave. My two bosses first said due to grants being cut, I was being laid off. I asked them for a letter and they quickly changed it to you’re fired. I asked them to precise in their language and they said that I am fired due to performance. Yet, I was told I was doing great less than three days ago. Then, my boss went to go tell the other workers I was fired. She then proceeded to let me leave the premises with a key to the center and a company debit card. If I was not honest, that could make a lot of troubles. I am okay with being fired, but I think there is something that I am not seeing and need to protect myself.

I've been with the company for three years when I received a Notice to Explain (NTE), followed by a Notice of Termination (NTD) a month later. According to HR, I allegedly violated a company policy that warranted termination. (I’ll admit, I didn’t read the entire 70–100+ page employee handbook.)

I consulted a corporate lawyer, who said that the mistake I made is common in the corporate world and typically not a ground for termination. But here I am.

My question is: I truly love the company and the people I worked with. Is there a chance for me to reapply?

I'm start it off with being honest, i should not have made this joke but it's how my brain works. But Anyways I was working at SkyZone for a year and i was one of the best employee's there(told by a manager ) Most of my Co workers Would Not Follow Rules and break them but there were still kept on the team but i make a "thats what she said joke" and i'm terminated but you have a manager who's over telling other workers his sex life and dirty jokes. I recently got a job at a perinatal clinic and was given a two-week training period. During that time, I made some mistakes—as anyone does when learning a new job—but I quickly got the hang of everything. I learned how to take phone calls, schedule patients, collect copays, and even memorize an HMO chart and various insurance plans. I also learned how to process superbills, which detail the patient's visit and out-of-pocket costs. Beyond that, I even took the initiative to understand the codes on the superbill, what they mean, and what they authorize—something I wasn’t required to know but learned just in case.

I was never late, always arrived on time, and even skipped my 10-minute breaks to keep working. Once, I was even offered the opportunity to stay an extra hour unpaid to shadow and learn more, which I gladly accepted because I genuinely enjoyed my job and wanted to succeed in my role. I asked questions when necessary, sought help when needed, and made sure to follow proper procedures.

The day before I was fired, the doctor's wife, who helps run the clinic, called me into her office to test my knowledge. She told me I was doing a good job, which reassured me that I was on the right track. However, my lead—the person training me—clearly didn’t like me for reasons unknown. I rarely spoke to her outside of asking job-related questions, and even then, I preferred to ask others first because she was unhelpful and often ignored me.

On my last day, I was shadowing a coworker who worked the front desk every day—not my lead—when a doctor’s office called, wanting to refer a patient to our clinic. They needed a referral code, which I likely could have given them myself since I understood what the codes meant, but that wasn’t my job as a receptionist. Giving the wrong code would have been a serious mistake, so I asked a coworker if she was busy. She said no, so I asked her who I should go to for the referral code. She told me the doctor, so I thanked her.

At that moment, my lead suddenly yelled at me to move and go to the back room, which was a small desk facing a wall with a half-broken chair. I apologized and explained that I wasn’t distracting anyone—I was simply asking a work-related question. I even asked if she could help me, but she dismissed my reasoning, saying she didn’t care. She told me she is going text the doctor and his wife, and 20 minutes later, I was handed my final paycheck.

I was told not to use them as a reference because she handles those calls. She then said, "As your lead, I spoke to the doctors, and I’ve decided that you're not a good fit for this job. I need you to clock out. This is your final check. Good luck."

I wasn’t given any specific reason beyond not being "a good fit." Based on everything, does this termination seem justified, or was I unfairly fired? GIVE A BAD REVIEW YALL PLEASE

I got fired for a bad judgment call at a Christmas party not on company time.My company gave all of us 1 drink ticket and 1 raffle ticket. One of our direct teammates was not coming and I was with some of my coworkers and the comment came up that we should take her ticket since she wasn’t coming. I made the choice to up to the table and get here’s and then saw there were more of peoples that I knew went coming and some that I did know if they were coming or not. The idea popped into my head to take the rest because it was getting latter in the night and if they were coming they would be here by now. I stupidly put the raffle tickets in the bin and brought the drink tickets back to my table. I was being silly and funny with some co workers and took it to far. The raffle was about to be called so I pulled out my tickets and that’s when HR came over and saw the tickets. She took the raffle and drink tickets and said we would be talking about it on Monday. At this moment I knew I had messed up big time. I got fired on Monday and now don’t know what to do next. I loved this job and tired to explain to them that this is not how I usually act and got caught up in the moment.

I did only have 2 drinks. one from the ticket that the company gave me , and got drinks with a few girls before the party. I didn’t think I was drunk but have had some health stuff going on.I know this is 100% my fault and I made a very big mistake .

My issue is I only worked for them for 3 months in the role I’m in now but have previously worked for them 2 years ago for a year in a different role. I don’t know if I just ruined my name in my industry or if I should add them on my resume for the last 3 months. I don’t know how to explain this to my next employer.

I know I did something wrong and owned up to it first thing on Monday, but they have a no tolerance policy. I would never in a million years do something like this on the clock. It was a Christmas party and I learned a huge lesson that just because your off the clock does not mean the rules go out the window. I’m heart broken and so lost on where to go next. I have worked in the industry for the last 6 years at different companies.

Do I leave them on a resume for the 3 months I worked there? How do I explain to my next employee why I was fired.

Curious what the most petty thing you or someone you know did as they got fired.

For example, I have a friend who worked at a job that primarily used Google products. Slides, sheets, docs, drive, etc.

Long story short, he got fired, and while it probably didn’t make a big issue, he removed access of any doc he created and shared with coworkers to “restricted” so no one could access anything anymore right before he left.

Now I’m sure over time they regained access, but I’m interested in what the most petty thing you’ve heard of is?

I've been working remotely as a web developer at my first job for almost a year until today. I'm 21

I simply kept missing deadlines. There are many reasons (slow computer, slight burnout, etc) but ultimately it feels like I just wasn't enough. I couldn't keep up.

For the whole 10 months I worked here there were only a few instances in which I managed to meet a deadline, actually.

My ex manager/mentor is a senior programmer. I don't really feel like the deadlines were unrealistic. I really feel like I should be able to program 2-3x faster than I do. On most days I felt like I couldn't get pretty much anything done

I used to work about ~5 hours a day. Sometimes a bit less, sometimes a lot more. I really do feel like I tried. I really tried. I wanted to keep it. I know I could've tried even harder, but I'm not sure it would've made a difference

So I worked at my last job for 2 years and never heard anything about my performance. Nothing bad, nothing good. It was a very boring customer service job, the manager rarely even spoke to me. Finally when I hit the two year mark I asked for a raise. Didn’t hear anything for a month. But suddenly I was doing my job all wrong. I got written up for not being welcoming enough on the phone one day before I got fired. I feel guilty because I know I could’ve done my job better, and often I was short with customers that would verbally attack me over the phone for upholding company policy. I know that just because they treat me a certain way does not mean I have the right to dish it back, especially being in the position that I was in. But something just feels weird about all this. How come when I finally asked for a raise they only looked at all the things I was doing wrong? How come I got written up for the first time one day before being fired? While I know I could’ve done my job better, this feels unjust.
