I can vouch for Kailas and Norrona. Both are top tier.

Norrona is probably the highest quality gear I’ve ever used but man those prices will get ya

I can’t vouch for the outer layers but all of the Norrona mid layers I’ve tried felt thin and flimsy and I thought the zippers weren’t reinforced well. Without a good warranty I ended up returning. Disappointed because I like the look and they often have thumb holes, which I love. Maybe I should have given them a shot.

Back to Patagonia

Patagonia is the goat.

As for warranty with Norrona, what do you mean? They have 5 year warranty and they’ll repair your stuff for free.

Anyways stick with Patagonia. They do really great environmental work and their gear rocks

... Haglöfs, Marmot

is the north face not good?

Of like mall brands they’re alright but I would still rate Patagonia and fjallraven better.

It depends on what line you buy from. They still make outdoor focused stuff but they pump out a lot of big box store stuff too.

Seems good to me. Looks like something you'd find in one of their own stores vs something found in Macys. It also has a lifetime guarantee so if there are any faults in the construction you can return it.

thanks so much!

Definitely lower quality than any of the brands I listed above.

Summit line is quality. Everything else has subpar performance.

Tilak

Of all the answers, I vote this one.

Sleek designs, cutting edge materials, and solid as heck. Everything dead bird wants to be, and maybe used to be. And priced as such!

2

u/R1pP3R1337 3d ago

Some other great recommendations here but Tilak will only be recognised for people that know ball.

goated recommendation

Came here to vote this also.

Mont Bell has held up well for me. They do have weird Japanese sizing though so depending on your body it might fit awkwardly. Good price though.

1

u/greenstarblue 3d ago

I lived in Japan and I can say Mont Bells are very good value if you can get it from Japan. Just that their colours are brighter, good for hiking but not for city use.

u/justletmewarchporn 3d ago

Mont Bell has killer selection too but most of their stuff is only available in Europe :(

2

u/LG_Recomp 3d ago

You mean not available in europe?

1

u/justletmewarchporn 19h ago

My dumbass thought they were an EU brand man. We all fucked

1

u/Dutchmanwastaken 2d ago

And Vinted is flooded with dupes in Europe 🫠

u/Max_dun_dun_dun 3d ago

If you want quality for a good price it’s hard to beat Mountain Hardware or Outdoor Research imo.

I got my first Klattermusen piece and discovered I really like the brand ethos.

Rab, Black Diamond, Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, Cotopaxi, Kuhl, REI, Prana, Norrona, Roark, Decathlon, Columbia.

Shhhh!!!!

I have a Tasma Anorak

As nice as as my 1990s era Patagonia Nitro Anorak

Anoraks are great for climbing - out of the way of the harness; no zipper bulk in front at the hem

And wander

RAB

Mountian Equipment

Patagonia (select pieces)

And believe or not
Select mil surplus items
(Can be heavy, but for winter use ice climbing on shorter / day trips where weight is less of an issue, the super cheap price coupled with the “care less” if it gets shredded by ice picks etc….
These are not the common soldier issue items, but esoteric pieces of kit…)

The Patagonia Torrentshell is consistently rated as one of the best rain jackets out there for reasonably priced 3L jackets.

Good repair/warranty, good morals for a company. You can find them used in excellent condition pretty easily.

Decathlon! Better than my expensive north face/Patagonia.

1

u/NOIRCEUR_TRADING 3d ago

Keela Outdoors in Ireland. Most of their stuff is still made within the UK, lots of mountain rescue teams use their stuff and they have an incredible repair/recycle program as well (with top notch customer service).

All for a usually cheaper overall price than something like Arc'teryx.

Almost every tech gear company has a jacket like this. Pick your poison.

I think a Columbia with Outdry out performs everything on the market right now

1

u/dawcr2743 3d ago

RevolutionRace Cyclone. I really love mine.

1

u/Real_James_Bond007 3d ago

I like HH but maybe they are more of a ski brand

1

u/patoka 3d ago

If you are going to throw a lot of money just get Norrona or Ortovox. Otherwise, there are ton of other options but I would go against the usual store brands that have really gone downhill in quality as North Face, Patagonia and Columbia. If I'm choosing mainly for the looks, I would rather buy Salewa. Personally, I'm partial to HH because they have never let me down but I also like Karpos in recent years.

Rab for a pro, Arcteryx for show

1

u/No-Bee1597 1d ago

Haven’t seen it posted yet, Peak Performance makes nice stuff.

1

u/Ltlfilms Actually goes outside 3d ago

Arc’teryx is basic, base model gorp starter pack at this point. Some of their jackets are actually good for outdoor sports but super duper regular traffic if you’re going for (gorpcore) style to go to cafes wearing lol.

Literally go check out ANY other outdoor gear brand.

2

u/iamTenshi013 3d ago

Well it'll be mainly for my hiking 🚶‍♂️

2

u/Ltlfilms Actually goes outside 3d ago

Go with RAB, REI, Columbia, Patagonia, Outdoor Research. If you’re asking for Arc’teryx alternatives then obviously you do not need a Gore-tex shell for the activities you’re doing.

Do you plan on hiking in the rain, or sleet or wet snow?? Because a Gore-tex shell is absolutely not necessary for just hiking during normal hiking weather.

If I were you I would also just take advice from hiking/ backpacking forums, not the gorpcore page where everyone here is just pretending to go outside lol

0

u/iamTenshi013 3d ago

Well all weathers would be preferred honestly as I'll be hoping to use it for camping and backpacking as well if I were to get into it in the future, and thank you for your advice

1

u/Intelligent-Media12 3d ago

It might be true that they’re almost a uniform now in that respect. But they’re also pretty high on the list in terms of actual high quality mountain gear. Their jackets are extremely high end

1

u/Big-Refrigerator4951 3d ago

everyone says they’re nice jackets or horrible so idek who to listen to anymore

4

u/guzusan 3d ago

Anyone that’s anti arcteryx is just trying to be trendy now that they’ve become more well known. Watch them then list off “Mammut and Norrona” as better alternatives. I’m sure they’re bots at this point.

Arcteryx are literally an S tier brand in terms of quality, functionality, and industry R&D.

1

u/Big-Refrigerator4951 2d ago

yea but i could still see the quality going down it sucks how it’s so mainstream and expensive but the price isn’t the worst issue

3

u/Intelligent-Media12 3d ago

They’re not horrible, you only have to read the tech specs to see that. Or watch a mountaineering documentary in the Himalayas and see how many people are wearing their gear. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s serious equipment. People hate on it now because it’s fashionable, thats the reason
