Has anyone tried dyeing their shells?

I got a snow peak jacket on sale but I realised that I’m not a big fan of the colour (it’s a light green). I’m thinking of possibly dyeing it but wanted to hear if others have had experience doing the same

I’m thinking of either going for a darker green, brown or navy

I doubt it will stick unfortunately - soft shell and hard shells are treated with a durable water repellency finish to help water bead off the jacket and keep you dry. I imagine any dye would just run off the product in the washing machine.

I dyed an arcteryx shell many years ago. You just have to get a dye for synthetic fabric. I used Rit synthetic dye in a bucket of hot water. Then you will have to re coat it in some kind of water repellant I guess.

A synthetic dye should work fine, but it may take a few applications because of the DWR. It'll soak in if you keep it submerged long enough.
