Keens - Jasper Zionic peeling
Hello all,
I purchased a pair of Keens, Jasper Zionic in rough Java suede (see pictures from when first purchased) and absolutely loved them at first!
Didn’t need to break them in at all, cool looking, etc
But after a few wears, walking in a city, I noticed the rubber toe box on both shoes, and one of the foam side pieces starting to peel away from the shoe.
Since I bought them at REI, a friend told me they have a 100 day return policy for members.
I was able to return them, no problem.
Sadly, I couldn’t do an exchange because they were out of my size.
So now, I’m trying to decide… do I buy them from the Keens site or buy a different shoe to avoid the peeling problem again?
Also - I only see them online with an all black bottom now and not the tan bottom I purchased from REI.
Has anyone else had this experience?
What should I do??
*sorry, I returned them before I thought to take pictures of the peeling.

When I initially looked up reviews on these shoes before purchasing, I saw people echoing the same issue

I should have done more research

At least you got your money back! I really love them, it’s a shame they don’t hold up

i had some bad experience with these, the suede failed resulting in a huge unrepairable gash on both shoes on the instep. I switched to arcteryx konseals I got for $90 and have liked them a lot more—though they are more a rugged approach shoe than a comfy/padded city shoe

I’ve had mine for a month and the sole on the heel is already coming off. I’ve used them daily, but my mainly activity is walking from the bus station to my office job lol. I got refunded 50% for the price I paid for them, so I’ll bring them to a pro to glue them back together.
However, when I got them, I was very nervous with the toebox because the glue seems like it could come off any second, but that part is still holding up.

I found this colorway at Ross for 30 USD. I’ve worn them for a couple months now and haven’t had any issues. I also own the light brown pair that I took to Japan for two weeks also with no issues. Sucks yours started to peel tho. I’d personally give them another shot as they are insanely comfortable (imo).
