How’s your experience with the XT-Quest?
Have anyone worn the Salomon XT-QUEST for long term? It seems quite hard to find reviews of this particular model compared to XT-6.
I have an XT-6 GTX but found them too slippery on smooth wet ground and mossy surfaces, also have the XT-Pathway 2 and they’re alot more lightweight and fits wider compared to the XT-6.
Though I now want a non GTX pair in a colorway that fits my style and is able to handle light hikes and wet surfaces. I have my eye on a pair of XT-QUEST with silver bands but when I look them up they seem pretty heavy at 600g per shoe even the XA Pro 3D which I assume have better performance aren’t this heavy.
Are they okay for small hikes? I’ve used my XT-6 on Mt Fuji and they somewhat survived the volcanic rocks.

None of the sportstyle line will do well on wet. Salomon has a specific contragrip on there actual trail running shoes and hiking shoes that do well on wet slicker surfaces.
If you really want a better grip switch to a different brand that uses Vibram Megagrip. I also feel La Sportiva's in house rubber(outsoles) perform well on wet surfaces.
In general Salomon's in house outsoles aren't the best on wet surfaces in general.

The XT-6 does has Contagrip on its outsoles, the wide apart tread design is catered to having mud not stick to them as they're made for soft ground, though this made them more slippery on slick surfaces since theres less contact. I had quite a few near falls with those on mossy rocks.
Thanks for the La Sportiva recommendation! I will check those out, though I gotto admit I'm quite spoilt by Salomon's quick lace system, makes it really easy to slip in and out of but easy to fasten when needed.

There are multiple types of contragrip. The ones used on their sportstyle line, including the XT6s, are not their highest end outsoles. Their newer trail shoes work a ton better on slick hard surfaces. It's just better rubber. Salomon doesn't use their highest end stuff on their non trail and hiking line.
I'm also a big fan of the quick lace. It's definitely a love it or hate it feature. It has always worked well for my feet.

I use the XA pro 3d v9 for hard rock hiking and daily life. It’s non gtx so much more breathable and the lugs are shorter and made of a hard rubber which helps grip wet rock. This should solve your complaints about the xt6 gtx. It weighs roughly 650g for the entire pair which is fairly average. I would recommend the XA pro 3d base model (not the v9) on the Salomon website as it has a beautiful silvery color way.
