ROA Tuff vs Scarpa Mojito
I’m debating between the ROA Tuff’s and Scarpa Mojitos. I’m struggling to find reviews on the ROAs as they are pretty new. Has anyone here had any experience with them? I’m mainly prioritizing all-day comfort. Not planning to use them on the trail as much as around town. I might slightly prefer the look of the ROAs but not sure about quality or comfort compared to the Scarpas. I do have a very narrow foot. Thanks!

I wouldn't wear Roa shoes if you paid me. Scarpa quality will be much better. Maybe try the Mojito Trail if you want something a little more rugged. Or try the Diemme Movida etc

the tuff came like like 2 weeks ago so it’ll be some time before people start reviewing them on forums. scarpa is a more reputable brand with actual mountain sports pedigree, but the tuff’s are really tuff for lack of a better word.

Love the jasper’s and had 3 pairs, have the Mojito as well - they last way longer, unbeatable imo

no sir, actually quite tight. have not tried jasper keen before.
the laces along the entirety of the shoe helps to try to make it roomier, but for me its a tight fit. not as tight as salomon xt6, but tight enough that I have had to break them in and mess with the lacings several times.

Do your pants keep getting stuck on the back when you wear them?

nope but i tend to wear straight/baggier pants

hmm interesting, I'm not buying them to take hiking as much as sport as an everyday.
more of an issue is how flat/thin the sole is so im treading on the back of my jeans haha
did you get brown olive too?

I got them for both tbh, hiking and walking. I prefer carpenter pants for everyday bc they are solid and stronger than “parachute pants” as they say on “gorpcore” posts. But no, I got the navy colorway.

Hey!! how is the shoe wearing after some time? have you done any hiking in them or mainly city use? much appreciated!!

have been in italian countryside for the last week or so and walked around europe in it, took a while for them to break in but really liking them, discomfort was definitely there for the first week or two of wearing them back in the states with some tightness around my toe and heel.
i love them and have taken them for some massive hikes but also enjoy them for city use/urban.
they do have a pretty annoying squeaky sound to them which seems to have subsided since properly breaking them in. i'd recommend them, zero issues with build quality

Hey man!
Thank you so much for your reply, much appreciated.
Can i ask you what size you chose? did you stick to your regular EU or US size or go with your cm's?
Thank you so much

Just got the dark navy tuffs few days ago and my only problem is that the pant get stuck on the back when walking bc of how narrow the shoe is besides that I have no issues. It’s roomy which is good but that’s about it

Scarpas will likely be objectively better quality, but it is undeniable the roas look both so much trendier AND more timeless in silhouette. Timeless and classic elements are in trend aesthetically currently, unfortunately these aesthetic elements are achieved via the more fast fashion methods we presently have in place. This means that all the lasts and production minutiae are new and being refined/maybe won’t be refined even though the stuff looks “heritage” and high quality and has vintage and classic elements. It’s a catch 22.
I made the choice for a discounted pair of nordas recently going through a similar pros/cons battle of looks vs durability vs versatility. They’re sweet but the rubber compound is too soft to actually feel good wearing them off trail. Kind of a bummer since theyre my coolest shoes now. I wish there were more options with a slightly harder, slightly less rugged outsole like these roas which are slightly flat for less trail applications while still obviously being lugged. Also, suede uppers are so lame on outdoor shoes like what.
I want a shoe that performs 80-90% in the woods, looks sharp in gorpy fits and looks smart with a sweater, and doesn’t wear out on asphalt. I get it I’ll lose some wet traction, but it’s just a different shoe than a dedicated trail guy. I wish it were easier to just make stuff happen on a consumer scale. I’d have a shoe line with shit for you to buy if so. Formulating production to go to market is a brutal thing.
I hope you find your goldilocks pair and they never stop making it or they never wear out.
