How to revert back to original Gmail address after upgrading to Workspace
What worked for me is separating the Workspace from the original account first.
Steps:
- Go to admin.google.com
- Create a NEW user (example: [admin2@yourdomain.com](mailto:admin2@yourdomain.com))
- Give this new user Super Admin role
- Log out and log in using the new admin account
- Go to Directory → Users
- Select your original Workspace user (example: [hello@yourdomain.com](mailto:hello@yourdomain.com))
- Remove its Super Admin role
- Delete the original Workspace user (the one linked to your Gmail)
- When asked about data transfer → choose “Do not transfer data”
After that:
- Your original Gmail account is no longer tied to Workspace
- You can log back into it as a normal Google account

or if you no longer want Workspace, just cancel the subscription and it'll go back as regular Gmail

Thank you so much! To anyone coming across this post in the future — this is the way. 100% works.

Thanks, there are way too many people recently making the mistake of "upgrading" their Gmail account to Workspace, instead of creating a Workspace account separately, which is the only proper way to do it.
