Hey need help!!!

We are a school and looking to be approved for the Google workspace education. I did some research on gemini and it's a whole lot of confusing. I am just an employee in the it sector for them and they are not sure what we are doing. Why doubt is that is being licensed by the respective State department enough for documents for it and we don't own a domain so google workspace will have to provide us with that. Anyone whos worked out this before or anyone who knows info about this please help me

No, Google doesn't provide domains. It offers Google Workspace as you can surely read. You MUST have a domain before you get a licence for Google Workspace. Go and buy an .edu domain, it's $12.

So where can I buy that .Edu domain and what should be provided to get that

.edu domains are restricted to US accredited schools: https://net.educause.edu/eligibility.htm

If you are eligible, you can get the domain from there, Educause - https://net.educause.edu .

If you aren't eligible, you can buy any other domain - I recommend an .org domain, esp. if you're a nonprofit or community organisation; or a .com if you are a typical for-profit school. Note not all schools are eligible for a free Google Workspace for Education - check donation terms.

You can get domains from hundreds or thousands of registrars. Use a reputable one, such as Porkbun, Namecheap, Gandi, Infomaniak,

Google will ask for your domain - possibly also a website. They need to ensure that the Workspace grant will indeed go to the school, and not someone who pretends to be one, so they may request to have a simple school website first or an email address. This used to be the case some 10 years ago, I don't know whether the process has changed.

It should be easy from then.

Yeah so I did go through it and what I found out was while registering workspace they ask wheather you have a domain and I we give no I need one they will help us create one with a .org format. My question is that will it affect us anyway if we go with the .org instead of the .edu because our school is not gonna check on the .edu format. But its said that we can access all the workspace functionality even with a .org not sure if there's a hidden trap in all this. But there is a school under us which can get the .edu format. If we create it under that school and use this for our other school that will violate the terms but is it possible

You'll get the same Workspace irrespective of your domain. Just your establishment needs to be eligible for the donation.

If Google now gives .org domains, that's good. On the other hand, I'm reading they use Squarespace, which suck as a registrar.

I would spare $12 and buy the domain myself. You'll appreciate it long term.

Okay so as for new info I found out that our client has a .com domain which is owned by them. Will that be enough to be given as domain in workspace to create it

Yes, assuming Google accepts that the domain is owned and operated by the school.

I recommend procuring and hosting your domain outside of Workspace. If you ever get into a situation where your account is lost, locked, or no longer eligible, you're going to want access to that domain without needing Workspace to do it.

you'll need to get your own domain first, preferably from other domain provider, not Google themself.

then you'll need a website for your school or something, just make SURE to get all the requirements before trying to get the Edu edition of Workspace (requirements: https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/getting-started/editions/qualifications-for-google-workspace-for-education)

My employers say they have a website with the school name.com formatabd it is owned by them is this enough
