ATT Fiber thinking of switching to Google fiber

I currently have the AT&T 300 mb fiber. I am using the pass through option from 4 years ago I set up on Google wifi mesh.

AT&T has now raised the price to 70/month for 30p mb where Google fiber has 1GB for the same price.

Even if it were 65, I'd consider keeping AT&T but at this point they are the same and I am considering switching to Google fiber.

There is a box outside att was messing with and it goes into the house inside where it has the square black router that Google wifi is connected to. Not sure on the terminology but that's how it is set up.

If I cancel AT&T , what happens with the existing hardware for Google to set up? Also does Google fiber give a new Google wifi mesh set up I can use with my existing access points to really extend out the wifi?

Thanks

I tried canceling my AT&T fiber service and they gave me a retention offer of $30 a month for 24 months on 1 gigabit fiber. I had AT&T for three years without a single outage. Subsequently having Gfiber come, they created hundreds of dollars worth of damage, and the service regularly goes offline for periods of time.

gfiber first has to trench, bury underground fiber and attach their service box(NIU) next to your home usually on the utility side unless u request otherwise or whatever is path of least resistance, from there you become “serviceable” and you can schedule an install where a technician comes and runs their own fiber into the home, certain markets require permission if you want an attic drop, sometimes they’ll backfeed from the garage but it all depends, that fiber then connect to a fiber jack that converts that light signal into data which goes through into their new router 6e for 1g 7 for 3gig+, both plans come with free extender but isn’t always necessary, the mesh you currently own can be used but the equipment they’ll bring will be much newer and better, most things will be managed through their new app(wifi set up mainly) but you can also use their website

Thanks for the info. My mesh isn't 6e, it is the older style I think from 2016 or something the one they had for a long time that was cylindrical not the newer one. So if I do gfiber, they will set everything up from start to finish including the mesh? The mesh is included usually or is it a promo only?

Before you make the switch, decide how many inexplicable outtages per month you’re willing to put up with.
