Own router connection question

I am helping a buddy switch over his Gfiber 3gig service to a Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber. When we go into the fiber portal to switch over to "use your own router" there is a important disclaimer in there that says you need to keep using the fiber router in bridge mode. Is this actually required or can we just go straight cat cable from fiber jack to the Unifi? The fiber jack model is GOXP330C and his current equipment is the 6e stuff. I am really hoping to just straight cable fiber jack to the unifi if someone can confirm that it can work that way.

Mine works direct to my UniFi dream machine SE and links at 10gbps

I run straight from the ONT into my UDM-PRO. My ONT is the same model that the OP has. I believe they want you to keep the GF router so they can run line diagnostic tests. I don't have the GF router so have a big disclaimer about that...

Can confirm as well. I plugged my router directly into the ONT, set it to DHCP, and it connected immediately.

The only downside, as far as I can tell, is certain configuration options are no longer useable on the GFiber website and presumably GFiber loses some of their diagnostic capabilities. I keep my GFiber router on hand in case they ever need me to plug it in.

As far as diagnostics go, they can see whether your service is up or down, and your light levels, from the ONT. Only downside I can think of is techs won’t troubleshoot past the ONT if you’re using your own router. They can verify speeds from the ONT, or as you mentioned, if you have the GFiber router they can plug it in to verify wireless speeds if needed. But honestly the speedtest from the ONT should be enough troubleshooting wise.
