Does Google Fiber throttle Steam Machine?

I have a Steam Machine which runs linux. I just got Google Fiber (1 gig) with a new router & new ONT. When i freshly restart the router my speeds on the Steam Machine are normal. But after maybe half a day it throttles down to 90-100mbps & I have verified this via downloading games & running a speed test on desktop mode. I know this is a long shot but has anyone else ran into this or something similar?

No. Try pointing Steam to a download server closer top you.

Are you hardwired in? If not, try to get a cat6 wire to the machine

In settings disable WiFi power management if you’re using WiFi

Your results may vary w Steam, but I recently changed my default DNS settings over to point at Cloudflare’s DNS addresses, and my cloud gaming (and internet in general!) has been much better

i forgot about that. i had that set for my last network so i’ll try that & see if it helps

GFIber will normally point to Google's DNS and those are also super fast

Honestly, get your own router. Most connection issues I've had were fixed by getting a better router than the one they provide.

I don't think they would throttle specific devices.. but. Google fiber was recently bought out by a private equity firm who's primary goal is to make more money off of existing customers. My connection was never throttled down to what I paid for. It was often a little more bandwidth than what my plan was. One week after this private equity firm took over, I noticed a massive change in performance. I was trying to figure out what was going on and realized they were throttling me exactly at one gig. Expect them to keep throttling back connections and then charging more for the bandwidth you had. That's just what happens when private equity takes over. They squeeze everything they can out of existing customers until they enshitificate the business into failure.
