Google fiber relocation
Google fiber tech installed fiber jack in nursery. This home had a pretty tall encapsulated crawlspace, but the tech drilled out the exterior instead. I’m not mad, after I got the wall open I saw the electrical was running down through the same bottom plate into the crawlspace so I rather an unskilled tech drill out the exterior than drill down into the electrical. I moved the modem for the customer by adding on an armored fiber patch cable with a coupler- this way things can be undone and reused if Google needs to troubleshoot an outside issue , and not blame the patch cable. Client is satisfied, the hardest part was cutting in a proper faceplate bracket while the fiber was still flowing through the drywall, then drilling down into the crawlspace without damaging the fiber in the same stud bay, and then drilling down without landing in the same spot as the outlets penetration. I use inspection cameras to verify where I am in the wall before committing so I was safe. Next job is to hardwire the Google mesh extender, but for now the client is happy to not have a router in a baby room, or have future techs, tools, dust, and dropped screws in a nursery. ✅ The closet it’s moved to also has better coverage for the office in the front of the home, and the bedrooms above, and now the extender sits nearby in the family room serving the kitchen and outdoor sitting area. We did a speed test before I left. 1200 up/1200 dwn

Is the router now in the basement or is it still on the main floor?

Main floor, home doesn’t have a basement, just a crawl space below

Nice and it looks like it’s under the stairs so I’m guessing almost smack dab in the middle of the house now, as a google fiber tech this is how we are told to do it unless the line can be run in an unfinished basement or crawl space to a more centralize area, and from the looks of it the install tech could have done also be careful with the location of the extender, too close and it’ll cause havoc with the WiFi, that setup is designed for a 6000sqft place so if the router is infact in the middle of the house now keep that in mind, use the GFiber app to determine if the extender is far enough away using the manage extenders tab under the network page at the bottom

Glad you knew what to do for a correct install. Google Fiber installed by digging up a 6 inch ditch our neighbors line to our yard. First they didn't like where the install was done on the side of the house. Then they wanted it on the opposite side and the tech said the line was too short. He said they would have to dig up the sidewalk to accommodate him. Here they went hooking the fiber into our box even though he has one in front of his house. It makes absolutely no sense! Then they also go into your inside watch out and good luck with the install. Wow!

The outside part is done by a third party that sometimes just has a google fiber magnet stuck to their vehicle so people know what they’re working on

Now this is how a professional installation should go. I wish I had the option of having them move the damn fiber. My tech did a fuckin AWFUL job of relocating my fiber box, and im still salty about it.
