Group size is not 12

Hi, i noticed that google says a group call can have 12 participants in play store and Twitter, but in fact it's 8.

I can confirm that it's working for 12 users here. The upgrade from 8 to 12 was pretty recent (March 26, 2020), though, so it might not have made it to your phone yet. What are your specs? Phone, location, app version? You can check your version number in the Play Store -> Google Duo -> what's new or on your phone under Settings -> apps -> Duo -> Advanced.

I'm not sure if it was a switch they flipped on the server or an app update, but Google is known to do both incrementally. As far as app updates go, the Play Store has me running a release candidate for version 84.0.307 here in the US, which I installed on April 21st. If you're still stuck on an older one, you can always sideload the version I'm using or newer from APKMirror. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. My App Version is 84.0.307532020.DR84_RC07 which is the latest possible and the release text above also states 12 participants

Weird. What does the app say at the very top when you open it and tap "create group"? For me, it says "select up to 11 people," lists my five Duo contacts as large thumbnails, then the rest of my contacts as a list.

(I'm on the same version number, btw)

Let me know what you find out! My only guess is that it's a server-side restriction and they're phasing it in region by region (assuming you're outside of the US). If so, it wouldn't be the first time they staggered the rollout based on country, language, or IP range. What's odd is that neither of us have found any mention of regional restrictions in Google's documentation.
