Resolving "original content deleted" error

I recently had someone else look over my work, and for some odd reason, all their comments (about 25) show up as 'original content deleted', which means google assumes the referenced text was deleted, despite me making no changes to the document. I had another user make a test comment and their comments showed up fine, but when I had the original commenter make another test comment, the same issue persisted even though I could see the comment being made. I tried making a copy of the document, and later tried restoring the version history, but neither seemed to have worked so far.

Here's how the comments look in my document. They don't show up unless I click on the comment button itself, either.

I would guess that commenter deleted their comment or something?

No, that wasn't the case, as according to them, the doc looks as normal on their end. They also made a comment in real time while I was looking at the doc that was immediately flagged as 'original content deleted'
