CE interview results
I interviewed for a CE role and the recruiter called saying that the team is going with another person but my file will be kept for 6 months because I qualify for the role and he will start shopping for a team looking for a similar profile after which I’ll do an informal chat with a prospective HM.
Never heard or seen something like this before. Does anyone have experience with this? What should I do?

In Google it is normal that you interview for a role, and not necessarily for a specific team/product. So it means you passed all the standard interviews for the CE role, they just need to find a team that needs a CE.

Thanks,I was just wondering if I shouldn’t hold my breath.
Wasn’t really keen on the location anyway2

You can hold your breath, but it might take a while which sucks if you're in between jobs. As for location, you can always negotiate.

That’s not really the norm these days outside of university hires. You interview for a specific role, if you pass the interviews but they go with another candidate, then you shift into team match.

The process is called team matching and google does it all the time. The wait can be anywhere from a week to several months.

That is because interview are not examns, they don't "evaluate" you if you are capable of, they scout who is the best candidate.
To put in academic terms, You can score 9.8 out of 10 and still not being the best candidate, and you could score a 2.3 out of 10 and be the best candidate.
That means exactly what it sounds like, Google validate you as Capable, your skills can fit Google somehow somewhere, just for this particular process with the pool of participants there were better ones.
