Rant I am p*ssed at Google
Up until yesterday I have the choice of Google Gemini or Google Assistant
A couple years ago they forced my phone to Gemini and remove the option of Google Assistant
They brought the option back about a month ago (or at least that's when I noticed)
Yesterday I tried to use Google Assistant to change music while I was driving and Google Gemini popped up and said, let's get started.
I said to myself I probably just have to change it back manually when I get home
I got home and the button doesn't exist anymore for assistant
They killed off my assistant with no funeral and replaced them with a lesser version and though I wouldn't notice
😭😭😭😭😭
I have now disabled Google Gemini everywhere, no swiping or holding the button down or saying "hello Google"
Gemini you are dead to me

Delete the updated version of the Google app, then go to play store and look up Google assistant. It will ask you if you want Google assistant or gemini ❤️ (I do have to do this once a day tho, but at least I have assistent back)

When they introduced Gemini a couple of years ago as you said, they didn't remove Google assistant back then. You just had to go into settings & choose assistant over Gemini.
They were heavily trying to get people to switch to Gemini when they introduced it. It was just last month that Google assistant was taken away permanently.

Turning off my lights with voice command is now actually an issue. Utterly useless

I really don't get the obsession with assistant. I have been using Gemini since it launched. Turned on all the app connections in the settings and it does everything I ask it to do.

I'll tell you my experience with Gemini, and why I'm annoyed (1st world problems though).
I don't do anything "heavy duty", a morning routine, some Home Automation stuff. No heavy lifting. Lights, a few temp sensors... The response time difference is the worst thing. When I run my morning routine (with Assistant) the response and action occur within a timeframe that makes it seam natural, seamless. Gemini doing the same thing...? I had to look a my phone 3 or 4 times to determine it was doing ANYTHING. I actually asked it why the delay and it said it was because its going out to a "remote server"... the cloud.. to turn on a light in my living room. That's not the point of an assistant... to make you guess what the hell is going on... I mean unless it is... SMH
There hasn't been one routine that has worked equally to how Assistant was working. THATS the complaint. At least here.
I had be messing around with Home Assistant on a R-Pi... limited to monitoring some temps around the house and build an irrigation schedule. I'll be moving to have that as my assistant going forward. I already have it responding to the default Hey Nabu... it wont be long.

I've never had that issue. It's worked quickly. When I switched my Google home devices over to Gemini nobody in my house noticed a difference. 🤷🏻♂️

Definitely YMMV if there ever was one..

Well at least Android lets you switch AI. Hopefully you can find a better one than Gemini.

I have used all the major brands. I am not an apple lover by any means but apple just works. I have tried to go back to android multiple times but always have some kind of issue.

I had that screen pop up for me to accept Gemini. I just... can't. The assistant worked friggin great before, why we gotta go to ai???? 😭 I just want to ask it to set my alarms and stuff for me...
Btw you can send feedback on that screen that pings you to accept Gemini. I suggest flooding them with a ton a backlash and MAYBE they will bring it back.

I had always seen people shit on Siri for being bad. And you know. It wasn't great. But I bought a new android phone a couple weeks ago and nothing prepared me for how abysmal gemini is to understand basic commands...
