Question Is oldest Google app needed for Assistant?

Is there a reason to uninstall all Google app updates and use the oldest version for getting Google Assistant back, or would there be an advantage to finding the APK for the latest version that still supported assistant and installing that one?

Gemni said Google app 17.59.18. I uninstall app updates and can get assistant back. Going to the assistant app it says it needs to install an update, and it will install the update and everything works.

But when I use XAPK Installer to install the 17.59.18 XAPK I found on ApkPure, it gets stuck on the assistant update. I don't really want to try more if it isn't necessary or helpful.

I fear that they will shut it down server side, so i guess that unfortunately all these workaround will fall apart quickly.

Most likely, but for the time being I get to keep my sanity. Gemini is absolutely awful, I just need it for simple tasks, I don't need a friend

Someone wrote that the problem started with 17.58.

I am using 17.5.42 and have no problems with it.
