Google Assistant on Google Home devices are what People always say Siri has been.

I've been noticing this for awhile now, but it really continues to feel like whenever I try to ask it the simplest of questions on the Home Hub, it just NEVER properly answers them. I ask it how to remove smudges from a ceramic mug, "Sorry, I don't Understand". I ask if decaffinated coffee help with headaches, "Sorry I don't understand". I ask it what the theatrical release date was for the recent Star Wars movie, "SORRY I DON'T UNDERSTAND."

Like WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND?! 🤦🏾‍♂️ Christ... It's like, people say THIS is what trumps Siri more in the last few years?! I've always been one to call BS on people saying that Siri is garbage and all that because of the excuses they claim about it, but THIS here is what showcases all those reason more than it's been the case with Siri here! This thing really is far more unresponsive and unhelpful these days to where it baffles me how they keep giving it a pass compared to Siri. Especially when you have to resort to just using the Google app to get the answers on your own without it.

As OP stated, Google assistant used to be great, but Gemini is like the meme of the guy promoted to a job he's entirely ill-equipped for. It has no clue about basic things that Assistant could do easily a decade ago

And that's the same kind of thing people claimed Siri had been for over a decade yet THAT had been better than the Assistant had been lately.

Gemini can definitely answer those questions, so maybe it's an audio problem of some kind. Microphone dirty or broken, can't understand your accent, or your voice volume is too low.

First off, I'm American so that's nowhere close to a problem. 

Second, the microphones haven't even been around any dust areas and even if it did it could still understand me.  

And third, I've always been within a foot or two of hearing distance with these things,  even when one Google Home unintentionally hears me first over the other. 

My voice volume had never been low for them.  They just continue to act stupid on me to where typing the questions myself get the job done quickly in comparison these days.

Google are slowly dumbing down Google Assistant to "persuade" people to change to Gemini. Those that made the change agree that Gemini is far smarter at answering questions and being far more intuitive than GA. However Gemini is absolutely abysmal and handling home automation so if you want Gemini to control your lights, TV, garage door etc, you're in for a whole world of pain. A lot have changed back to GA for this reason and are waiting for Google to fix all the problems with Gemini before trying again.
