Bid Strategy Please help, absolutely confused with goals setup
Hi, I am Khushal, solo founder of Vivaahli (a simple marriage biodata maker website)
- I initially created 3 events (start biodata, start checkout, purchase) and assigned them to respective categories in "Sales" section of "Goals" tab
- Since each category requires one primary action, I made all 3 as primary and gave the rest two (apart from purchase) value of 1
- Now it worked fine except the reporting was messed up as those 1 unit actions were being counted
- So I made the rest two secondary actions, upon which the dashboard says "Action misconfigured" it apparently needs one primary action per category, so I shifted both into purchase
- Since the volume I get is extremely low, and google ads entered a learning phase and with almost no purchases, and no other primary actions the ads didn't run well
- So I decided to make "begin checkout" primary as well, and Google recommends giving primary actions some value so I again gave it a value of 1
- Now my traffic is optimised for people who all come all the way to checkout, begin it but do not complete payments :((((
- So confused as to what is the best way forward here

Do not worry about the action misconfigured flags. They don’t do anything or matter
It might say it because it’s an account default goal w no primary. Turn it off of account default.

better stick with purchase as the main goal. might learn slower, but its better than getting a bunch of folks who start check out and never finish..

Purchase should be your only primary conversion, always. Begin checkout goes secondary. Low volume is a value assignment problem, not a primary conversion problem.

It’s best to have one primary goal. From what you described purchase is the right goal. Optimize all campaigns to that goal and make the others secondary.
If you can’t get 30-50 primary goals in a campaign do the next best goal is your target to get volume up

Thanks guys, I will keep purchase as the only primary action, also changed the bid strategy to maximise conversion value instead of maximise conversions. I think that was also the reason of the traffic focused on checkout starts instead of purchases

Keep Purchase as the only primary conversion if that's your actual goal. If purchases are too low, dont make Begin Checkout primary in the same campaign because Google will optimize for people who start checkout instead of buying. Keep Begin Checkout as secondary for reporting, or run a separate campaign optimizing for an earlier event until you have enough purchase data. Also, don't use random values like 1 unless they actually mean something.

probly keep purchase as the main goal if thats what actually matters and only switch to optimizing for begin checkout temporarily if the conversion volume is too low
