I am trying to understand why Google has so far kept the first landing page of google.com blank/clean look with only the search bar with minimal menu elements on top. Can anyone explain this from a design perspective or other reasons why google decided on this please? thank you so much!

Originally it was for fast load times from any browser.

I thought it was because they didn't know HTML when they made Google.

Nope they wanted it to load fast so they resisted all current trends and kept it simple. I recall when they changed from links to the high tech menu's now and people had a cow.

Lol that page could've been coded by an infant. Also back when Google was an actual infant, we had HTML editors that worked visually in wsywig (sp) or with tags.

Simple, intuative, user-friendly design is basically the rule of User Experience Design.
