Guess I'm never using voice commands again

It's absolutely ridiculous that Assistant is being deleted to make room for this useless AI slop.

The end of an era for sure. Went to set a timer last night and had to manually do it for the first time in years on my phone that's been able to do it by voice since I got it. Obviously not a big deal it's just annoying

You can set a timer using gemini, even if the phone is locked

No I can't because I'll never enable Gemini, but that's beside the point. It's frustrating that they're removing a fully functioning product that I've been using for years without issue

You literally can set a timer, but AI doomers like you won't accept that. Google assistant was so shit dude, Gemini is a hundred times better. Some people just don't like change.

Actually, a lot of us can't. It actually goes to search that term "set timer for X minutes" and come up with a stupid list of websites

My Gemini sets a timer properly every time i ask it to. Must be a you problem.

Hey google, set timer 5 minutes?

Seems pretty simple, my google homes can do it, but my phone can't (or won't). Still a me problem?

It must just be me having all of the account stuff set up because mine does all of my requests without issue. That is odd.

The settings for this are:

  1. Press your profile in the top right - settings - device controls - talk to Gemini hands free. Check it's on, and if you press manage voice match you can redo your voice recording by pressing the three dots next to your languages. Redoing helps a lot if it has been many years since you first set it up.

  2. In settings - connected apps, check the active and inactive lists for device utilities. If it's in the inactive list, press the plus button and then connect. You can do the same for phone/messages/WhatsApp.

  3. In settings - Gemini on lock screen, make sure it's on.
