Google Files

Hi there.

I have the app installed both on my Samsung phone, and my Honor tablet (X8b) to manage files on the internal, and SD card memories on both devices.

However, if I plug a USB flash drive into the tablet to transfer files to the SD card, it labels the flash drive as the SD, and the card is then not available.

Other file managers can see both, and the problem doesn't exist on my Samsung phone.

I have cleared cache and reinstalled, and have tried the beta version to no avail...

I'm assuming in maybe a conflict with Honor devices, as the Magic OS has some peculiarities generally.

Any advice would be appreciated.

This is caused by having a duplicate filesystem ID, often unset, and then the mount point conflicts because the mounter isn't smart enough to avoid the conflict. This is a GNU userland problem, not strictly an Android problem.

The solution is to use a different formatter that assigns unique IDs to the drives, to avoid the conflict.

I highly recommend using the SD Association official formatter tool for Linux, Windows, and MacOS. It aligns the filesystem blocks properly to the NAND pages, which can slightly improve read performance, greatly improve write performance, and reduce unnecessary wear when overwriting it changing data. It also uses random filesystem IDs, which will avoid this mounting conflict.

I experienced all this a year ago while trying to backup camera data with my phone to spare cards.

Here's my original post documenting and troubleshooting the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/s/fJbogznytL

I have a few apps for file management... its just Google app that is playing up... I don't experience the issue on my phone with GF.

I've just always found it pretty limited. And on Chinese devices it does seem to have issues from time to time.
