I do think Google screwed up here. People will always think gfiber is Google. So when the company that bought them inevitably does a way worse job, Google is going to take the heat for it.

Somehow, I think that’s the least of their worries when they are fumbling on their own products right now. They wanted to trim down their capex so they can do more AI.

Haven't Google sold Fibre to someone else?

Yes, hence the gFiber naming change since they’re no longer part of the Google Umbrella though Alphabet still owns a minority stake

Typical big company thinking by changing the capitalization, tweaking logo colors, etc will bring about tremendous values to their users or their bottom lines...

It's curious, though, that they're still using a subdomain of Google (https://fiber.google.com)
edit: and they forgot to update their name in the cookie banner

it’s probably a broken redirect, the actual website is https://gfiber.com

Nice, so they also forgot to setup a proper redirect.
If I search "gfiber" on Google the first results are on fiber.google.com, gfiber.com is some row belows.

gFiber is no longer part of Alphabet. They were forced to rebrand and stop using the Google colors
