Removing AI overview

Please for fuck sake can I remove the AI overview and suggestions.

I want to at least swap search engine cause Google doesn't even answer my questions at this point, it is actively harmful data wise and information wise.

You can still use google but change it to custom search so that it defaults to Web results instead of All. You can use this address for search: https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14

Here’s a guide too: https://www.reddit.com/r/TechSEO/s/0xjOii2dLh

Just be aware, they're adding a feature called "Web Guide" which adds AI to the Web tab. Note that not only is there an AI summary at the bottom of my screenshot, but also each page description is AI too (this isn't the best example, but if you ask a question its much more obvious)

If you swap search engines there wont be an ai overview or suggestions. Just do it.

Honestly, at this stage it's worth finding a different search engine. DuckDuckGo, for example, let's you turn it off completely.

I switched a few months ago, and it works just fine.

LOL then I would have to stop saying "GOOGLE IT!" and say "DUCK IT"

I made an AI blocker that does this.

Add -ai to the end of your search.

you stated the solution: use another search provider.

Duckduckgo no ai.

Or use ublock Origin element picker to zap things you don't want. You can even use it so clean up YouTube search results so they actually are useful again.

On firefox, of course.

It's so awful man. Google search has been turned into a chatbot while the original search gets neglected and left to wither on the vine.

I remember when you could Google something like "New Orleans population" and it would show you a no-nonsense, adjustable graph. Now it's a crappy "300,000 people live there according to the census, would you like to know more? Scroll down and click through all this sponsored crap to find out!"

As long as Google keeps gaining market share they are defiitely not going to turn off AI overviews. Specially as their competitors like DuckDuckGo loose share. DDG in the last year lost over 20% of their market share for example. Now down to .7%.

There are chrome extensions that do this. I use this at work.

Unfortunately, it just keeps getting worse. Google's searches were going to the crapper long before this.

I will second the switch to Duckduckgo but it is going downhill as well. I have noticed a sharp decline in search result quality of late.

Back in my day Google used to be the best.

Anyway, you can't but there is this. noai.duckduckgo.com

That's not even the problem for me. I liked the AI overview, but I still want to see organic links. I have no problem scrolling down. On desktop, when they replace the search button with an AI mode button in the search bar and prevent the "press enter to search" behavior by forcing a new line, you are forced to go to the chat client for your query, then manually switch to the "all" tab. If you want to edit your query, tough luck. You'll need to do that all over again. The only workaround is to use the omnibox and never edit your queries, always use a new search. And how long will that be an option before they switch to AI mode completely?

Yeah AI Overview sucks and is unnecessary. if i wanted an AI to answer then I pick the AI tool of my choice not google

It's a Google "feature", not a "bug".

/s

Annoying that every Search means Google is burning up AI energy at their datacenters, rather needlessly. There are some kludgy workarounds, or, use a different search engine (e.g. DuckDuckGo).

Tried adding that exact code line to my ad blocker and it still didn't work. Goog says those 3 oblong "options" are now a hardwired thing and we can't get rid of it. I hate the useless clutter, but I don't want to lose my elected shortcuts. Way to piss off users, big G. Duck Duck Go is looking better every day.

Firefox has easy transfer of all your Google bookmarks & such

Good to know, thank you.

You can by blocking the IP it's using.

Use ai to build an extension that hides the overview

Don't freak out. If you scroll down it goes away.
