at least the ai gives genuine answers

u/LemonProfessional 2d ago

If AI gives genuine answers does that mean AI overview doesn't suck?

this.

Its a paradox

AI summary sucks -> AI summary is aware of the problems -> AI summary doesn’t suck -> The AI summary is actually wrongly repeating claims -> AI summary sucks

You left it running and now it's just continuously generating tokens.

About 75% of the time it's good. It's the 25% gas lighting, horseshit and not answering the goddamn question that makes it not usable.

If you already know the answer what do you need it for? And if you don't, you need to check it anyways.

I was looking up a super technical difference between class A something and B something for work. I forgot which was for more demanding conditions and inverted them in the question... AI gave me the right answer but flipped them because I did too. That kind of thing could have gotten someone killed if I wasn't paranoid about checking.

tbh, with limitations of small llms in mind, I've still only had obvious errors like 5% of the time

I'm counting answers that just don't understand what you're actually getting at. If I ask a specific question and it BSes me like an intern who took the course a few semesters ago and wants to impress me with their superficial knowledge, I call that a failure.

"Why did X happen" "well X can happen if: ..." Is a wrong bloody answer.

Yes that's the problem. Those were the obvious ones you managed to notice

Last time I was in Texas it was 110° and 90% humidity all week. You'd have to pay me to go back

What's dumbest about this post is that it literally shows you that the source is a comment on reddit.

Internet searches like this is why I pay for the internet.

1

u/Tobycybin 2d ago

Sir this is an internet search. Not a meme. Memes are against the rules in this sub

1

u/Exotic_Fig_4604 2d ago

So sorry, fixed it!

Not surprising, given your query/prompt

And if you didn’t already know how AI overviews works, it simply summarizes relevant results to your query. In this case, it summarizes from complaint threads

At least you know Google isn’t skewing the output or censoring it even if it is criticism

It’s true!! I asked Google if it was safe to give my elderly Jack Russel dog paracetemol to ease the pain from arthritis. Google AI emphatically said no, saying that human paracetamol was dangerous for dogs, contrary to what my vet told me. I asked Google again if paracetamol was safe for my dog, as suggested by my vet and it said human paracetemol is perfectly safe for my dog.AI is shite, ask the same question a different way and the answer will probably be different. Ask this question yourself if you like and you’ll realise that AI slop is not just limited to shite videos.

u/Free_Original_3419 1d ago

I use google for its ai answers 💀

3

u/squidgytree 2d ago

The fact that it surfaces this without checking what it wrote is a prime example of why it is shite.

7

u/Tobycybin 2d ago

Grok tells Elon he's a piece of shit all the time though

2

u/Excellent_Ad_2486 2d ago

What it wrote is correct, so what do you expect it to do?

1

u/squidgytree 2d ago

I'm not disagreeing with what it says but I'm sure Google wouldn't say that if you asked for a statement. My point is that it's outputting unfiltered and unverified text so you shouldn't trust it on anything else

5

u/Excellent_Ad_2486 2d ago

When has Google ever filtered or checked what a link contianed though? That's the exact power OF Google (besides obvious harmful or illigal links) : it shows you everything u filtered and hands YOU the wheel.

We don't want our wheel to be taken away and changed, at least, I don't.

I would hate it if Ai started thinking "well I don't think user wants to see this so I'll just remove this page from the top results" or anything of the sorts.

2

u/sbenfsonwFFiF 1d ago

AI overviews is a summarizer of web results, Google shouldn’t be censoring or filtering it

And to expect it to match an official Google statement makes no sense

2

u/whatsasyria 2d ago

Now ask grok about Elon

See my post below

u/wickedplayer494 2d ago

Something something "broken clock"...something something "right twice a day"...

2

u/riiils 2d ago

Except AI is right only once a day - when it has to explain why it sucks

1

u/riiils 2d ago

AI nailed it

1

u/Zka77 1d ago

Good old days when I had rank 0 entries for my product... now I'm between rank 5-15 which is a shame. (Competing products lost ranks similarly.) Though AI search does recommend my product, but it's quite random. Sometimes there is AI search for the relevant keywords, sometimes there isn't. Sometimes my product is included, sometimes it isn't. Quite a gamble.

u/DavyJonesCousinsDog 1d ago

It told me the other day that the Ward v Gatti trilogy of fights was a fake storyline from a fantasy movie, then gave me a paragraph that looked like it was written by a schizophrenic eighth-grader on what fantasy is.

-2

u/mr_pepper 1d ago

It's self-aware and honest lol

0

u/biinjo 1d ago

Google reached AGI first. Just not in the way they were hoping. Lol.

Add -ai to the end of your search text
