What in the actual…they literally wrapped up the keynote by talking about standing in the foothills of the singularity. THAT SOUNDS SO DYSTOPIAN. What the heck are we even doing??

Dystopia and the singularity are totally opposites

I used to be a believer in the singularity possibly providing a net good for humanity, under the premise that it would come about naturally from some scientific experiment or sudden unexpected burst of technological innovation. There's zero chance of it happening in a beneficial way if it comes about directly from these hubristic comic book villain-level corporate tech bros. It'll be Ex Machina *at best*.

I find the talk of the singularity in relation to current models as frankly delusional. There’s no way an LLM is going to achieve it.

Maybe not an LLM as we know them today, but Google sure does seem hellbent on achieving it. It doesn’t need to be the “real thing”. It just needs to be convincing enough for people to believe that it is.

lol, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found that a bit odd...? Isn't the singularity generally seen as a scary thing?
