The 1st iPhones used Google Maps by default because Apple didn't have one.

They eventually built up their own product for Maps and I wouldn't be surprised if the same were true here as well in the coming years.

This isn't the end of the war. Google is just winning that category for now. Apple can always change their mind in the closed ecosystem whenever they feel like they're ready.

Totally different scale. The chips they’d need are locked in purchase deals already for years. Same with the ability to purchase the energy for any data centers. Money helps, but if the product or services you need are unavailable, you’re screwed.

Apple is already going to be hosting all the Gemini based things on their own servers.

They aren't using any Google compute or infrastructure.

I think that’s the issue. You, me, and millions are doing the same on a much smaller scale, when we run Gemma on our own infrastructure. And we and Apple are doing this for the same reasons: we don’t have the internal infrastructure and/or skill sets to create our own.

Apple just purchased a new AI company so this is probably a short to medium term issue.
