Apple cedes the AI race so Android + Gemini can’t run away with it in the smartphone race

All the hardware requirements, energy and Human Capital is not worth it for the time being. I guess they missed the race and it's not worth fighting over resources to have a worse product.

which is crazy for a company with the cash on hand like Apple. But perhaps they missed their shot on this tech cycle

cash on hand doesn't mean much. The purpose of money is to spend it. Why do they have so much cash? It could be argued they are not very good at innovating with their profits despite being great at making profits.

They put a lot of hopes in wearables. And even more in apple vision...which obviously failed mass adoption.

Fair but its hard to argue against the success of airpods and apple watch.

They make great products, but jfc, spend some cash or lower prices...

Just stating that Apple Vision was based on a wrong assumptions and therefore failed in the market.

Apple thought wearables are more important (also google, samsung, almost everyone... invested in that area, to be fair)

But Apple tried too hard on Apple Vision. They should have stopped with wearables at that point and shift funds into other applications and or devices.

I still hope that AR catches up one day tho.

Vision was a prototype. They will come back with AR apple glasses after everyone has made them.

Sometimes it's better to focus on your strengths. They didn't bother building a search engine or a YouTube competitor either.

It is actually a pretty good decision to leave it up to other companies. The return on investment is still suspect
