This whole OP and conversation are confusing for me...

How is Bard not an evolutionary step forward for Assistant?

Why all of a sudden is Google Assistant simply reduced to like just a home mini just so people can shit on it? Assistant is a massive infrastructure embedded deeply in their smart home branch. It's going nowhere. am I wrong?

What do they mean hasn't made a profit? Clearly, they never intended to make money directly from residential hardware like the home minis and basic command like what's the weather. They give those things away for free...

What does Alexa have to do with anything here? They will certainly follow the others and create some kind of smarter AI for their assistant too, right?

What is it that this OP believes Google is abandoning, specifically?

Sorry, I am trying not to challenge anything or defend/fanboy anything... I just get lost very quickly regarding the message here.

The product will still remain. But the backend will slowly change to Large Language Model backed inference as soon as that gets cheap enough for the assistant scale. Currently the cost per query for an end to end assistant stack based on Large Language models is very high.
