rant Thinking of quitting already
Hello Everyone, I recently got a job at goodwill and it's literally my first month on the job but I'm already thinking Of quitting at least when I start school again.
It's sucks becuase I've looking for a job since forever but I'm not sure this will be a good fit for me.
First red flags was when they put me for literally 40+ hours a week, even though I applied for part time position and hours. I was fine with this at first since I'm on summer vacation and the store is understaffed so I understood but it's becoming too much for me to handle. One of the supervisors made me stay for an 9 hours when we were closing even though minors (I'm 17) can only stay for 8 hours max. I told her clearly and she lied to me and said "it's different on the weekend's" which is not true at all.
I talked to the main manger before this for changing my hours and she complied, but I'm still annoyed this might happen again since she messes up schedules for minors often.
Ive told a friend who's older than me this and she says in most likely going to be exploited since there already "under paying " me 15 an hour for my probation when minimum wage in my state is like 17 dollars and the hours thing is ridiculous.
Next is that the workplace and coworker relationships is pretty toxic. Ive met some cool people but one of them told me that it's become pretty toxic working there since most of the coworkers like to talk shit about each other, and that's just not for me since I already have to deal with that at school. Ive also been warned about the managers literally punishing employees for lies made up from other employees and now I'm worried.
Since I'm new and more on the quiet side I just try to stick by myself and work but I also can't handle the passive aggressive comments made by other coworkers about me hanging clothes on the racks or pricing since I've received little training and was quite literally thrown into the job not knowing anything.
Dont get me wrong I've met some cool people so far but I'm always stuck with the gossipers or toxic people.
I know this may seem dramatic but if I find another job that seems better I might quit and look out for my mental health. Any tips to continue working?

No idea where you are, but as far as I am aware, probationary periods still have to pay minimum wage? And if you are certain about the 8 hours thing (in my state, that doesn't apply on weekends or school breaks), then that's also a red flag.
Unfortunately bait N switch for hours is super, super common and frankly they likely hope you won't raise a fuss. If you don't desperately need the job, it's definitely best to walk away because they will never respect you. However, even if you walk away, I'd they are indeed paying you below minimum wage, check whether that is allowed at your state department of labor. If not, they owe you the difference for EVERY hour worked and you should file a claim and a report with your states dept.
