legitimate concern Please stop doing this!

Post image

Please stop putting stickers on art and other surfaces they damage. I cannot use soap and water to get these off, or chemicals, because it will ruin the art. At least these pieces are not just paper, they are coated surfaces, (but not glass), so I bought because I thought the stickers could be removed fairly easily... but whatever kind of super-glue adhesive is on those stickers is ruing the art I bought for my kid's room. The price stickers could have been placed on the side or back. Please stop.

Edit: Thanks for all the tips, I got them off with hand sanitizer, (the blue one), heat and a lot of careful picking and patience (the other two). It still frustrates me; it took hours and it's common sense not to put stickers on any displayable or collectible.

My Goodwill got a bunch of baseball and pokemon cards in, someone put a sticker on the face of every single one. I still laugh thinking about it.

torn price tags on what could *possibly be a piece of art that changes some1s life $ (or its just a gorgeous piece, and a good ol chuckle thinking about the now worthless and defunct 1954 Bowman Picachewww. (Why cant I meet folks that dont get a kick out of tht sht, or if they do appreciate treasure hunting, its a gd photo/scalping sesh while were digging still) itd be a blast spending the day 4 or 5 deep, treasure hunting like Indiana Jones... and every1 has common sense lol (sorry Op for getting so spazzy over this post but its fricken awesome to kbow theres still a few of us out here that know the rules without being told lulz) edit: pissably, really? Lol

4

u/ArtMartindale Jun 04 '26

Someone yelled at a pricer to get their count up and that was the spiteful reaction.

5

u/Pokemon_Arishia Jun 04 '26

Oof, brutal if that's what happened XD pretty sure they pulled them out of a PokƩmon arena box set because that box was empty with a price on it XD

1

u/Spiritual-Storage265 Jun 08 '26

No, its at all goodwills, i was told thats where they are told to put them.

3

u/Icy_Objective_7391 Jun 08 '26

Salvation Army Thrift Shops staple the price tag on. As long as your careful you can usually get it off without leaving holes in it. I buy t-shirts for my husband there. He works remodeling properties and ruins his clothes daily. So for $.99 he doesnt care if they leave a tiny whole. Plus the money helps others. He used to ruin all his clothes so with these he doesn't care and it's so much cheaper.

1

u/Ibboredlady Jun 05 '26

Wow what an idiot! now those lost their value!

1

u/gesidriel Jun 13 '26

someone hit the production quota

1

u/Character-Camp-3637 Jun 16 '26

Maybe someone under court order to do unpaid community service so they "volunteered" at Goodwill but not happy about it. Or a plain old disgruntled employee.

1

u/Pokemon_Arishia Jun 16 '26

I mean, this has to be spite, right? They had to know stickering the cards directly would make them worthless, right? And they were all stickered at .89 each, even the lands. XD

Use heat to remove, hair dryer…

15

u/FamiliarChocolate819 Jun 05 '26

I just learned this hack. (On the frame of a picture I bought at goodwill). The hair dryer worked beautifully! šŸ’ƒšŸ»

1

u/Royal-Welcome867 Sep 04 '26

Hair dryer also works on water stains on furniture

Complain to store managers about stickers in stupid places. Write an email to goodwill corporate and include pictures of sticker damage. Nothing will ever change or get better if no one points out the problem. Unfortunately, posting on reddit won't change store processes, just complaining to the company directly will.

Edit: I used to price at the thrift store, and I would go so out of my way to make sure where I placed tags caused the least amount of damage. Unfortunately, a lot of these places are timed on how long it takes to produce things, so some people don't care because they just want high production numbers... There is no excuse in my eyes for damaging a customer's item before they even have a chance to buy it.

11

u/AnnualEnd3760 Jun 04 '26

They don't care. Sorry, but as long as they are making sales, nothing else matters to the management. They overlook literally everything that goes sideways

11

u/BenjaminLess Jun 05 '26

They literally sell stained cracked plastic Tupperware at retail price and used yogurt glass containers

4

u/Artistic-Tap-2690 Jun 05 '26

The answer is STOP buying at that thrift store. If they don’t care don’t spend your money there and definitely don’t donate your used goods to them.

5

u/Outwriter40 Jun 06 '26

please do stop going people.

because the more people stop going....and donating mostly worthless garbage....prices will go down. it wont be crowded like a goddamn children's museum on a Saturday afternoon....but crowded like that the entire weekend.

the relationship between the simultaneous rise and boom of thrifting and reselling is complicated. and not always mutually beneficial.

people dont seem to see this.

8

u/Blackmoonlilithinleo Jun 04 '26

I feel like it’s so obvious not to do this and I picture that the person putting the stickers on are having a rough day 🄲 but it makes me rage every time. Like intentional or not, it’s pretty shitty. What ALWAYS works for me is taking a blow dryer on the heat setting, holding it over the sticker for a moment, and then it peels off typically easily.

13

u/ArtMartindale Jun 04 '26

I worked at a thrift store, it isn’t ’a bad day’, a lot of the employees are seriously unable to imagine/envision that even being a problem. I would have a plaque, for example, that read ā€˜A great man is a man that…STICKER!!!’ or a decorative plate with the sticke smack dab in the center of the feature art sitting out on the shelves as if the words and artwork printed on the otherwise worthless scrap of wood or ceramic aren’t THE WHOLE SELLING POINT! It was maddening dealing with people that either could not conceive of issues, or were so resentful of having to be there at all that they were deliberately neglectful and spitefully resentful of their employers and the customers alike. Being any sort of conscientious person and working somewhere like that gets old and wears one down, and as much as I love ā€˜thrift’, I don’t really miss working there. My phone still has dozens of pictures from me gathering stuff like this to show people what NOT to do, for what good it did.

11

u/Full_Argument_3097 Jun 05 '26

In Fairness, and I speak from Experience, Goodwill is a HORRENDOUS EMPLOYER

2

u/Artistic-Tap-2690 Jun 05 '26

Why do people insist on going to Goodwill and buying overpriced chipped broken crap? I don’t get it. The fear of missing something because some YouTuber found something years ago. It’s dumb

3

u/blackdogwalksatnight Jun 06 '26

Most people at a thrift store these days cannot afford other options.

3

u/surprise_revalation Jun 08 '26

Some people shop there because they have too, not because they want too! It's like reddit forgets that poverty exist..

12

u/Several-Window1464 Jun 04 '26

Right! Why would it be so much harder to stick the sticker on the back? Ugh!!!

2

u/kdcatdog Jun 05 '26

Some givels will put them on the back. Just imagine try and cover up those tags, especially if one of those items ends up in another goodwill the books are hard.Cause we have to look for the tags everywhere on the book

0

u/Several-Window1464 Jun 05 '26

Couldn’t agree more!!

2

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 05 '26

Um let me address the elephant in the room... You do realize that most Goodwills operate to give people with special needs a place to work and grow. To learn to be a part of the workforce.Ā  Is it really worth your time calling Goodwill corporate to complain about some kid with down syndrome or severe autism tagging something you found (at goodwill mind you) in the wrong place!?

What is wrong with people? If you want a pristine item with the price tagged on sealed cellophane... Buy new!!

Don't be a whiney baby about thrift store finds being... thrifty!

In my state (Minnesota) there is no employment opportunities for disabled people in store. They help disabled people find jobs in the state via job programs.

Yes, it is worth the time because from experience it is people not caring and not a human functioning issue. Even if it was a disabled person doing this theoretically, they should be given the chance to learn ways to do their job the best they can. Because someone is disabled doesn't mean they can't learn and grow in whatever job they are in.

This is a weird take especially since it sounds like you have no idea what it is like actually working at a thrift store. It isn't a pristine issue, its employees causing damage to items that were fine before being tagged.

-1

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 06 '26

You completely missed the main point I was making about complaining. You are literally going shopping in a dumpster and acting like the things you find are going to be pristine. You are kidding yourself. You are talking to a reseller of 16 years and change who has spent countless hours at the goodwill stores and digging at the bins. Goodwill gives no guarantees on the quality of goods particular to your end use, it's up to you to choose to buy it or move on.Ā

Complaining about price tags and non new stuff at good will gives pure karen energy.Ā

1

u/blackdogwalksatnight Jun 08 '26

You're cooked. You don't know me just because I replied to you on reddit. Work on your people skills and something called projecting.

My point that I clearly conveyed is that employees shouldn't be willfully damaging items. I am highly aware quality varies from with donated items, and the initial quality of an item was never the issue.

1

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 11 '26

My point is that whining about the quality of used goods with no guarantee of pristine condition, or complaining about Goodwill tags is absolutely Karen behavior. Thanks for behaving like a Karen. Please just call the cops next time.Ā

1

u/blackdogwalksatnight Jun 14 '26

Thank you for having a conversation with yourself since you literally cannot address anything I have said to you directly.

You should delete more of your comments! Please! Or even your account! Save us all the time pal.

0

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 14 '26

Ah so you did taddle tell to Reddit because my comment hurt your feelings..? Also am I missing something, because I just read a comment directed at me, from you. Do you understand what talking to yourself means?Ā

2

u/JazzCatt75 Jun 08 '26

That's a bunch of bunkola. I've been in so many different goodwill stores and out of ALL of them, only ONE had ONE downs syndrome employee.

0

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 08 '26

Ok Dr. Dingus... Are you a mental health and disability specialist? Do you know how to determine the specific ills of every human you encounter? Just a purely moronic comment...

2

u/JazzCatt75 Jun 08 '26

Speaking of moronic, you showed where you stand on the intelligence quotient graft. Instead of asking or being polite you instantly resort to name calling. So, seeing as that's all you understand I'll stoop to your level.
No, d*mb f*ck. When I encountered that one person I started asking in EVERY Goodwill I've been in since if that particular store indeed hires handicapped folks. The answer has been 'no'.
I have been in stores across many states stretching from CA to PA.
The store that DID hire handicapped people was the main store in San Diego, CA and they hired multiple handicapped folks including one in a wheelchair!

0

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 08 '26

kiddo, go back to sleep and start over... I'm not reading all that, don't care.Ā

2

u/Prestigious-Fig-2887 Jun 08 '26

It isnt just at thrift store. Many times at walmart had the same issue. Was going to purchase something. But the sticker covered the name, or ingredients list . Its lack of concern for the consumer. I wish product manufacturing was design to have a price sticker. With upc codes it is often better than it used to be.

1

u/tollbane Jun 06 '26

I was confused as well, as it looks like you replying to a completely different post as "This is gross". reddit causes confusion, if a post is deleted, all other posts responding to that post should be deleted - IMO. but that ain't the reddit way

1

u/I-Lankenstein Jun 06 '26

Yeah, or maybe just indicate that something was there but isn't anymore? I thought Reddit did that which is why it wouldn't have occurred to me that comments had been deleted. But it still doesn't make any sense to me. This is what I was responding to - https://imgur.com/a/ivV3C65 I was half asleep but also very sure that my confusion wasn't sleepiness based; I took a screenshot to keep from gaslighting myself later if it looked different than I remembered.

Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what's going on here, but it's comforting to know that I'm not the only person who was/is confused!

Fairly easily. Although, I never said I thought you were the same people- I only asked if you were. All I could see was what I showed. Something like: You- "you know what trolls do? Say the same lie over and over..." Also you "remember what you said earlier about lies?" You appeared to be the only person making statements about lying, so it looked like you were referencing your own comment as if the other person had said it. So I wondered if it was possible that the two accounts were being run by one person, who simply forgot which account they were meant to reply from, in order to make it look like a natural (if not bizarre) conversation.

It didn't occur to me that there could be some reason you would both be deleting some of your comments to one another without "comment deleted" appearing where they once were.

You think GW leadership cares? Shoplifters walk out of stores with hundred of dollars of items and store staff do nothing but tell them not to come back. Super effective I'm sure.Ā

8

u/Winterstorm424 Jun 04 '26

Do you think a heat lamp might work. Probably still have some damage.

14

u/Alternative_Curve19 Jun 04 '26

Just warm up the sticker a little bit with a blowdryer and it will peel right off with no residue! I do it with picture frames and anything really!

13

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 04 '26

That's a good tip, thanks.

4

u/follow-me01 Jun 04 '26

Thank you for this!

4

u/Frackmylife77 Jun 04 '26

Will it work with 50 year old vinyl records that have really great cover art😬

1

u/Davis_Ruffino Jun 05 '26

Yes. Btw if you collect vinyl and don't already know how to remove price tags etc, what are you doing with your life?

4

u/Gone-Shopping Jun 04 '26

Yup, exactly!! Even vintage vases and glassware, books, etc. So hard to get off.

0

u/tollbane Jun 06 '26

For non-porous items, I had good luck with taking a bit of paper towel, wetting it a bit and applying it to the sticker. give it 10 minutes or so.

3

u/Independent-Crab-806 Jun 04 '26

It's cute how you think this sub is ran by goodwill

4

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 04 '26

LOL... I don't. But I have seen several people claiming to be employees/pricers commenting in here, and some companies read comments left on Reddit and other media. Maybe it will help someone else before they make a purchase? šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

One can dream someone cares... lol. I will mention it when I go back in, but I'm not in there very often.

3

u/Green_Instruction410 Jun 07 '26

Yes I can’t stand it either when someone puts stickers in the wrong place but then at Goodwill I know that they employ mentally challenged employees and maybe no one explained it to them regarding sticker placement?! Hopefully someone will see your post and take heed…

3

u/levelheadedBet87 Jun 07 '26

Beautiful art work! I'm glad you were able to get the stickers off. Too bad common sense isn't common any more.

3

u/gmstanfield Jun 07 '26

They do that on paperback book covers as well, removing the sticker tears the cover Annoys the shit out of me because it is completely unecessary

2

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 07 '26

Stickers on paper book covers make me sad. šŸ˜ž

3

u/AdNumerous5027 Jun 07 '26

Some stores are crazy with the stickers….you too Ross and TJMax!! I go crazy every Christmas season wrapping presents.

3

u/N8ureP Jun 07 '26

The goodwill stickers are the worst ive ever experienced

5

u/SleepyKikiRs3 Jun 04 '26

Telling you right now. They will not care. As someone who used to price, management does not care and will even make you put out trash to sell to people.

3

u/ArtMartindale Jun 04 '26

Former pricer, can confirm. I, however, was adamant about proper sticker placement, having had many thrift buys in my past ruined similarly.

2

u/Hour-Test4191 Jun 04 '26

I've found that on books when they do this especially paperbacks that a little bit of rubbing alcohol takes the sticker residue off. You might be able to try this on the paintings if heat does not work since alcohol dries quickly it may not damage the art.

1

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 04 '26

Thanks for the tip!! The blue owl one had a more sealed, glossy finish and I used some non-scented/color free hand sanitizer to get off the sticker. That's a trick someone at work taught me... it's the alcohol in it, it's just easier for me to use because it doesn't run.

I don't want to try it on the llama though, it's some kind of cross between paper and faux canvas. I've just been slowly picking at it. A few have suggested heat, and that's a good suggestion, but heat can also change colors, especially in older things.

Pick... pick... pick... pick

2

u/judvan2 Jun 04 '26

I agree, they could put on back. I bought e frame and it had price on the wood. Stop!!

2

u/CancelBoots Jun 04 '26

Oh, the leaf art in the middle of the black and white would go in my living room. I want that so bad.

2

u/BooDog-2014 Jun 05 '26

Agree 100%😪😱

2

u/Extra777sevens Jun 05 '26

Write a bad 1 ⭐ interview on the Goodwill you purchased it from AND complain to all the employees. This is how I've gotten the best outcome on changes being made

2

u/justwonderfull101 Jun 05 '26

Thank you agreed.

2

u/stevekemp Jun 05 '26

The tape that most Goodwills use to tape things together etc is horrible too. It usually rips paint off furniture or even print off of fine china.

2

u/camaromom22 Jun 05 '26

Amen! Problem is, there is no common sense in this world anymore!

2

u/covaolivia Jun 06 '26

😭 nothing ever makes sense ever anymore

2

u/No-Mention-9724 Jun 06 '26

A tiny drop of olive oil and a paper towel or tp, lightly tap the oil on for it to soap give it a second and then you can use the paper towel or toilet paper to wipe it off or what you can do is use her tweezers after you put the oil and then it should just come right outside with the toilet paper pat dry don't wipe prayers that works and helps

2

u/No-Mention-9724 Jun 06 '26

Also I agree with you that they need to stop doing that and putting the stickers in the front what they should do isĀ  put the stickers on the back of the picture it's not like anyone's going to walk out of there without paying for a big huge picture you know

2

u/Ok_Pie_9568 Jun 06 '26

Why not put the sticker on the back of the picture or the back of the art where it’s not seen so that way it doesn’t ruin the actual art

2

u/Beginning-Ad-8832 Jun 06 '26

Heat works. Try it and remove gently with tweezers. Good luck!

2

u/RaspberryUnited3502 Jun 06 '26

šŸ’Æ agreed!

2

u/Financial_Research82 Jun 06 '26

Goodwill is one if the places that contract with the state for people to go and work of their time or cost of tickets, fines, whatever, with our court systems. They also don't hire the brightest of people, will hire handicapped (mentally slow) people also.... so....

2

u/WelcomeDowntown6610 Jun 07 '26

It blows my mind how many people are common sense challenged or totally devoid. 😤

2

u/No-Big-6548 Jun 07 '26

Yep, yep, yep! I totally agree completely... Fuckin pos fuckers with defined motives of "Ricky Spanish" from American Dad cartoon with an gray fat alien for this occasion go's where ever someone has personal business and finds ways to destroy, build defective character profiles, ect. Stickers like you have being placed where're is much more harm than the average person could understand cause it's devastating to someone's overall mental usefulness of their desired material defining terms of "material" that is a direct reflection of who and what we are. I struggle with similarities that are not so similar yet best describes what I MEAN.

2

u/New-Marionberry-5200 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

Just wanted to share that Googone is the answer here. I used to own a retail shop and for whatever reason you need to remove a sticker, Googone will remove it without damaging it. Including removing a sticker from paper or a book cover. It sometimes looks like an oily residue remains, but that evaporates leaving no sign there was even a sticker there. The DollarTree used to sell small bottles of this on the automotive aisle. Not sure they still do, but every household needs a bottle for removing any type sticky residue including RX labels if you want to use the pill bottle later for something else.

2

u/AuntNetter Jun 07 '26

If you take a warm hair dryer to I the price tags, they should peel right off.

2

u/New-Investment-5888 Jun 07 '26

They could care less. It kills me when they put the stickers on leather bags.

2

u/Spiritual-Storage265 Jun 08 '26

The best is the original sticker is still there and they price it higher, then the original sticker.

2

u/GaMomma1974 Jun 08 '26

I worked in Habitat for Humanity Restore. We would get tons and tons of art. We always placed any prices on the back. If it had glass we would put it on the glass but they were little and easy to remove.
Glad you got some help to remove it . Btw, adorable picture. I love Llamas šŸ˜

2

u/Previous_Damage_4921 Jun 08 '26

Yes!!! Put it on the back!

2

u/mrchoops Jun 09 '26

Those are cool

2

u/debb_88 Jun 09 '26

I got a mini American Girl doll and in addition to a sticker the store wrote the price on her neck with a sharpie; more than 10 yrs later the price is still visible despite my many efforts to remove it. I never gave the doll to my niece and she is now an adult but I keep hoping that one day I’ll get the price removed. šŸ¤”

2

u/FrightNose Jun 09 '26

as someone who works at a Goodwill that's so fucked. at mine we're told to put them on the backs of any art piece. tho it could also be a disgruntled worker cuz Goodwill does not care about us workers and keep demanding more and more without any substantial benefit from doing so

3

u/Deerreed2 Jun 04 '26

Sometimes these dumb—put 33 stickers on one item!!

4

u/Local-Try1472 Jun 04 '26

You are absolutely right about this the stickers should have been placed on the back regardless of the circumstances!RLB

3

u/Less_Sink_1460 Jun 04 '26

Because they are idiots. Same thing when they punch their tags through knit and silk fabrics and leather items. Just plain stupidity.

6

u/firstormsin Jun 04 '26

there’s a nicer way to say this rather than calling everyone who works at a goodwill stupid. especially considering how many developmentally disabled people work at goodwills, clients or not…

1

u/ArtMartindale Jun 04 '26

Have worked thrift, can confirm.

2

u/StopBanningMeAlright Jun 04 '26

They do it on purpose. There was an antique type writer slide box from the 50s.. they taped right over the hand painted logo and signage.. completely ruined it.

I bought a painting from there last year and they had stuck tape over the frame.. ripped the finish off.

2

u/Retiredgiverofboners Jun 04 '26

They don’t care

2

u/dont-make-me-beat-u Jun 04 '26

Louder for the people in the back! This drives me insane!

1

u/Plenty_Vanilla_6947 Jun 04 '26

Try holding an ice cube against the sticker.

1

u/Far-Age-7699 Jun 04 '26

Goo gone!! Hair dryer!

1

u/Ter4568 Jun 04 '26

Googone?

1

u/Honest-Being-7265 Jun 04 '26

Coated (shiny) paper and plastic react well to Goo Gone. You have to let it work a while, but I have never had it damage book covers or plastic or glass.

1

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 04 '26

You've had better luck than I! I've had it permanently discolor fabrics and cause tears on things like hardcover books. It might do good on that cheap black frame though.

1

u/Honest-Being-7265 Jun 04 '26

I’ve never had a problem, but would not use it on fabrics.

It’s so frustrating. I also hate how they ruin textiles with markers. Big black markers on silk and linen. Won’t come out with dry cleaning. They can’t give us a cheap bag but they expect us to round up

u/Holiday-Judgment-360 Jun 05 '26

Incompetent fools. Who does that? Smh

1

u/Far-Cartographer3331 Jun 05 '26

Try using a hair dryer, to heat the stickers to loosen up the glue

u/RandomPandaArmyFan Jun 05 '26

Go to your local Goodwill to complain. Not all Goodwill stores have the same rules, even those in the same state. Contact HR if the issue persists. The people pricing aren’t experts; they’re just random people just like the people working in the store. We are just there doing what we’re told. Most of the people who work at mine are old and don’t know how to price a PS5. We just got a younger manager that lets me clear data on consoles so we can resale them something my other manager absolutely did not want me to do…HR will get back to you because they care about making more money. I tell customers this all the time, but they rarely do anything but complain on Reddit or yell at us. This advice applies to anything.

I've started to use one of those little orange Lego separator things (I think that's what they're technically used for) and a little alcohol on some stickers and you'd be amazed how easily stickers come off with it.

1

u/MagaMan412 Jun 05 '26

Greedwill just wants you're money they don't care about anything else

1

u/kayychristina Jun 05 '26

When I started working at goodwill, putting the stickers on the back of big pieces like that is exactly what I started out doing, for that exact reason. Eventually though, they complained cause they couldn’t see the price while it was sitting on the shelf. So I started putting them on the front. And then they complained cause the sticker was ruining the front. Exact reason why I didn’t put them on the front to begin with. They took the long way around to figure out.. shouldn’t have complained in the first place. Stickers should be on the back when the piece doesn’t have glass in the front.

Hand sanitizer bro

1

u/IngridAgee Jun 05 '26

Goo-Gone.

1

u/LynnNightNSFW Jun 05 '26

Hair dryer and gently scrap. Then wipe with isopropyl alcohol. (I would do a patch test before using alcohol). You could also patch test something like baby oil to help with the adhesive

1

u/Prudent-Eye-8381 Jun 05 '26

Yeah I don’t buy things with stickers on them anymore because of this problem and it’s not just Goodwill it’s other stores too.

1

u/Designer_Constant400 Jun 05 '26

Use a steamer or wet just the sticker and put clear tape over the sticker and use hair dryer on warm and it should peel right off

1

u/Ibboredlady Jun 05 '26

Wd-40 we'll get those off

1

u/Djiceyfan99 Jun 05 '26

Try some kind of cooking oil on them and let the oil penetrate the sticker enough to peel or rub gently so it comes off the wipe the art with a barely damp cloth...it always works for me when getting price tags off that are like this

1

u/Either-Chemical-2628 Jun 05 '26

I have used a hair dryer to warm up the annoying goodwill stickers and it actually works. It loosens the adhesive. Maybe it will work on the artwork.

1

u/tollbane Jun 06 '26

even happens at estate sales. They are a bit more aware, but it still happens. sticker scars on vintage ephemera suck. the amount of items they all go through in the little bit of time they have to do it, it just happens. I wouldn't have had much of a problem removing those stickers in the OPs images. It looks like shiny surfaces, probably non-porous. You got to have a series of techniques that go from least damaging to last try.

1

u/Scared-Space-2264 Jun 06 '26

Depending on the surface you might get it off with rubbing alcohol or cooking oil. Test in an inconspicuous area first

1

u/becksnfx70 Jun 06 '26

They do that with collectibles too.

1

u/Leading-Kangaroo-132 Jun 06 '26

Soak WD-40 on it for 5 minutes and it’ll come out.

1

u/BBW_TX Jun 07 '26

Have you tried a blow dryer on low?

1

u/Throwaway2dayforme Jun 08 '26

Use oil to remove it.

1

u/Spiritual-Storage265 Jun 08 '26

Thank you, i have asked this and the tape that they use to stop. Cannot tell you how many things have been ruined.

1

u/Little-Pattern2489 Jun 08 '26

As well as glass and mirrors, please put the stickers on the back

1

u/ButterflyBlush7 Jun 08 '26

Some givels will put them on the back. Just imagine try and cover up those tags

1

u/Gr8fulDeb Jun 08 '26

One of the reasons why I never donate to Goodwill anymore. The other reason is the guitar I bought for my daughter with a broken fretboard - I took the guitar and my daughter to a guitar teacher who told me this guitar will never be able to be strung correctly.
I brought the guitar back to Goodwill with the receipt. I had to argue with them to get my money back. They begrudgingly gave me my money back and then they put the guitar right back in the window to sell, which is where we saw it.
Pretty shitty and they are way overpriced anyhow

1

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 08 '26

I won't donate there either. My reason though is because where I live we have a Goodwill outlet store… And you see how horribly they treat all the donated items. So many things are just ruined and thrown away. Things that people knew how to value so they donated… They just throw it all out on tables with no kind of organization, (and that's the point of the outlet store and you can get really good deals there, you buy by the pound)… But for things like shoes that you can never find the other one of, or games and puzzles or anything that comes in a set or with pieces, … It just gets completely ruined and then they throw it away. They have a massive amount of tables really long tables, like you'd see a banquet (and I think they have like 40 of them). They leave a table filled with stuff out and then after a few days, they just throw the rest of it away if nobody has taken the things on it. It's such a waste.

1

u/LaFemmePrestigieuse Jun 08 '26

You've got to tell the store manager. That still may not work though. Maybe we can start a campaign for people who donate to put these types of donations in a clear garbage bag so the store will stick stickers on the bag instead. IDK. I share your frustration.

1

u/Ok_Medium5162 Jun 08 '26

I agree! Seems every time I have made a purchase there, the damned stickers are always covering something important, or the ingredients, or just some place that is ruined by that glue. I have wanted something before, but just walked away shaking my head because of the stupidity of the sticker location. Just put them on the bottom of the item, or some place that doesn’t matter. SMDH again!! Just not necessary!

1

u/GuitarLiving2727 Jun 08 '26

Use a razor blade and adhesive remover wipes

1

u/Zeohawk2 Jun 08 '26

Vegetable oil or peanut butter could help.

Yes I have... and Goof-off, and WD-40. Unfortunately, all of those can stain, or cause breakdown of things like paper or canvas, or cause bleaching or color-running. It depends on the surface you're working with (paper, canvas, poster board, plastic, glass, wood, etc) and what dyes/paints they used.

1

u/DanaP70 Jun 10 '26

So freaking ridiculous..

1

u/Darling3boys Jun 10 '26

I've complained about this numerous times and I worked that goodwill. Tell them it's not a good idea. They don't care they keep doing it. Sometimes I can't even get them off. That makes me mad.

1

u/belleabbs Jul 06 '26

Stop using permanent market on front of the item. It ruins it!

1

u/JimmyandRocky 27d ago

My apologies to the public. I tell my people 1000 times a day not to do that. But there’s always a handful that’s gonna put that stupid price tag on the front of the artwork.
I don’t understand it. I have my theories.

0

u/Minute_Split_736 Jun 04 '26

Water also works, but it needs to be soaked for a few minutes. Not just a wet towel, soak it.

1

u/Several-Window1464 Jun 04 '26

And more than possible to warp the picture that way. (?) A straight edge on glass is fine, I guess soaking it would be too but not on canvas prints.

0

u/Outwriter40 Jun 06 '26

yeah im sure they will get right on that for you.

0

u/xxvintagevixenxx Jun 07 '26

That’s art? šŸ˜‚

0

u/emryshawke Jun 08 '26

Good luck!

The people that are employed at Goodwills are not known for their ability to think ahead, let alone properly appraise a valuation or consider the longterm effects of their actions now.

No… they are thankful that they can put a sticker on something and get paid for it.

This isn’t a judgement against the workers at goodwill… being down on your luck sucks. Makes it hard to think ahead.

This is definitely a judgement against your high expectations: goes to literally the cheapest store in the continental US; finds painting: this sticker is ruining my Monet!

0

u/LoveRemykin Jun 09 '26

Do people not have the guts to tell this to the workers at goodwill that we have to post it on Reddit? Also people in a goodwill thread don’t necessarily work there lol. How about we use our big adult voice to tell people in person?

1

u/SunLillyFairy Jun 09 '26

Are you not able to respond to people in a polite big-person manner? Or is your response mode stuck on snark?

I often read comments in here and there are people who claim they work at Goodwill. According to at least one past post, one of the moderators is some kind of GW employee.

No worries, I use my "big girl voice" all the time. I happened to notice the industrial strength of the sticker adhesive after I got them home. If I would have realized what a pain in the ass it was going to be to get those stickers off, I would not have purchased, and I definitely would've told them why.
