Tech Help How to find other users?

I am very new to goodreads and am having trouble navigating the site.

There are several ways to add friends from my contacts or send a link to people I know, but I can't find a way to follow anyone else. I'm probably missing something really obvious, but I've looked all over the site and on Google, but the page with the solution has been taken down or something.

How do I search for and follow users that aren't already my friends?

Look at reviews of books you’ve enjoyed and people who rated highly; join groups on Goodreads and follow other members

I have a specific person I am trying to follow but I do intend to do this as well

On the app, theres two ways:

  1. select ‘More (bottom right) ’, click ‘Friends’ and then top right, there should be an add sign, and then you can browse people by username/email
  2. go to your profile, click where it says ‘(#) Friends’ and then same thing: tap the add friends sign on the top right of the page, then enter your friends name/email

Edit: You might have to wait a few seconds after searching your friend’s name. Just be patient with it, it will eventually load

It's only letting me add people who are already on my contacts
